Shaun Rogers Arrested for Having Gun
"19 Action News has learn Cleveland Browns Defensive lineman Shaun Rogers has been arrested at Hopkins airport with a gun.
It happened as the NFL'er was about to board a flight. The gun was discovered in a bag. Apparently, Rogers told officers he forgot the gun was in there."

Reported via the Plain Dealer too, and as PFT states, it’d start stretching into poor legal/slander usage if it were a joke. I posted this under the belief that the report is sadly valid.

Having a gun is a legal right, if he had a permit, it was legally allowed to be concealed.
It could have just been a mistake it was brought into the airport.
We are not, nor will we ever be part of the club Bross.

I was making a joke SB…I was more commenting on how there have been huge legal troubles with players on the other teams in the AFC North. Personally, I agree with you. However I was just making a joke.
We probably joined the club last year when BE suckerpunched some dude at a club and Stallworth killed a guy. We are a temporary member of the club but we have to have a felony case or two to be a permanent member.

right. fans of every team turn a blind eye towards their own players’ mistakes or make excuses for them.
the only difference is that the Bengals have openly become a magnet for 2nd-chance guys. the Browns aren’t above having a few bad apples any more than any other team.

Question for lawyers or people familiar with Ohio gun law: If the gun were properly registered, what kind of punishment should we expect? What about if the gun were not registered?
If it was registered, it was just an oopsey forgetting about it but could hols some serious terrorist scares. If it was unregistered, I expect bad things…

It would be a FEDERAL offense, because it is at an aiport.

A prosecutor filed the fourth-degree felony charge……………………Rogers was booked by police on a third-degree felony, a local practice allowing officers to hold him for investigation, but prosecutors decide what charge gets filed in court. A third-degree felony carries a possible five-year prison term, a fourth-degree felony up to 18 months.
This means he’ll spend 24 days in jail.

What is the definition of registered we are going by here? My understanding is that in Ohio you don’t have to register a hand gun just to own one (i.e. I can buy your hand gun from you, not tell anyone and it’s perfectly legal). If you want to do the concealed carry thing then I guess you have to ‘register’ but I don’t even know if that is specific to a certain gun. I think that is more like registering yourself.
Just looking for clarification like you guys.

You need a registered permit to carry and conceal
"Spartans never die Jorge. They're just missing in action."
by SpecialBrownie on Apr 1, 2010 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions
That’s a license that allows a person to carry a concealed firearm. The gun itself has nothing to do with it. “Registering” a gun is not something Ohio, or just about any other American government does. Mostly just a Law & Order myth, as I think NYC does something like that.
Actively seeking inspiration for a new handle
I’ve heard plenty of times that someone was arrested carrying an unregistered gun.

I know CA and NY both require registration of firearms. A few other states here and there might, but most do not.

Collier was in his car.
I would be willing to be that most professional athletes don’t walk around with security. Also I would be willing to bet that many athletes outside of their size would be unrecognizable by the general public. I’ve seen many people walking around my city (Louisville, KY) who have the build of a professional athlete. It’s stupid to tell a professional athlete that they have to live a cloistered life.
From what I’ve read Rogers was driving back and forth trying to sell a house. If by chance someone did recognize him, he would be a fairly easy target.
Honestly I’m not even trying to defend him having a gun as i’m not a big fan of guns myself. However it’s legal to own a gun and for some a gun can offer protection and it’s stupid to tell athletes that they shouldn’t carry one and to label them as being in the “wrong areas” if they feel they need one.

Naw, it doesn’t make him a worse football player. It just reinforces the idea that the guy isn’t bright enough to remember that he’s got a loaded, concealed, undeclared weapon in his bag that is not locked in a protective case. Add that to the fact that he freelances on D and doesn’t care about playing to his potential and you have a bad team player.
Trade him or cut him. The D played better without him anyway.

Rogers Gun was legal and registered. He had a conseal and carry permit. if it was a legitimate mistake he didn’t commit a crime. He should probably be more careful. Arenas had 4 firearms in the teams’ locker room and pulled one on a teammate.
"Smokescreen."
*didn’t knowingly commit a crime.
He was only charged by the state system, as he was stopped entering the airport, rather than on a plane. I think he will get off pretty easy, because they could have charged him with a federal offense, which would carry much more severe penalties.

Well lets see how this effects the Browns’ draft this year… Figures we can’t go 1 year without having to amend our draft board due to staph or jail… (jail streak being new with Stallworth and now Rogers)
I’d figure so much considering its a Federal felony.
Also with Plaxico’s sentence for a weapons offense might sway the commissioner to continue with steep punishments as the trend for weapons crimes among professional athletes is continuing to rise.
If I remember correctly, Plax didn’t have the proper paperwork for the gun.
Plus he shot himself. I doubt he will do any jail time.
by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 5, 2010 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions
Shaun Rogers crime is much less severe than Plaxico. Plaxico actually discharged a firearm in a public place. Also the gun was unregistered. New York gun laws are much more strict than Ohio.
Also they have only charged Rogers with a crime in the state system, and have not ruled it a federal offense, which would likely carry a much greater penalty. I think he will get off easy compared to Plax.
"Smokescreen."
Shaun Rogers is an all century Nose Guard. He is a veritable freak. Normally I look for guys like Chris Zorich. So to me he is not naturally proportioned for that position. But man is he awesome!
He is signed through 2013. That means he could be dominant for us for four more years.
I know it takes a while to be truly identifiable with a team, and I think Shaun Rogers isn´t quite there, yet.
I think he´s an All-Decade player. You need to keep him in the Brown jersey!
Like I said, if he doesn´t have a world beater of a clever finality excuse, he needs to plead stupidity. Maybe he was inabreviated or pulled an all-nighter, but we need a very good reason for the lapse in judgement.
Saying, sometimes I drive to Michigan, and it´s not unusual, especially for a famous person, to have a firearm stowed away on the Highway, going in and out of cities, makes a lot of sense. But people are thinking, quite simply: How can you forget you have a loaded hand gun with a bullet in the chamber, and amble on up to airport security in this day and age without checking yourself for unallowable carry-on items?
