Yes please.
The guy is still elite at 34 years old. He was vital in the Saints’ Super Bowl run.

I say this for all old players that are still great: If the price is right.

Unfortunately, it never is.

Ken Hamlin? I think I’d lean toward Ward if no free agent is brought in.
At the moment, though, I’m wondering more if John Henderson is a serious consideration for DE. Henderson, Rubin and Rogers would be a pretty stout front three.

buuuuuh

Right now I’d say TJ ward is probably going to be our opening day SS. I’d really love to see either Darren Sharper or OJ Atogwe starting at free. However I really doubt that happens so I suppose the browns will be in the market for a FS next year.

If Ward starts, will Brown flat out replace Elam? I know some of you guys have said Brown is weak at the Safety position. I see a hard hitting Brown/Ward combo.

Thanks Arizona. Now your illegals will come to my state. We don’t need any more.

Doubt it. I think Sheldon plays nickel mostly this year. He might also split time with Haden covering the #1.

Wright will be covering the number 1.

I doubt Brown plays corner.

I tend to think Brown will start at corner for at least the first half of the season.

when is the bye week this year?

I hate the steelers the way a mother loves a child.

by notthatnoise on Apr 28, 2010 9:51 AM EDT up reply actions

You mean at nickel, correct?

by Simmsinns on Apr 28, 2010 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions

No. Starting cornerback, but I do think he will play the slot in nickel situations.

by Roger Dorn on Apr 28, 2010 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions

So you see Joe Haden playing nickel for at least a season? Interesting.

by Simmsinns on Apr 28, 2010 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t see haden as being purely a nickel guy. I think some of it may depend on matchups. lets say we play the eagles (which I don’t think we do but its a hypothetical here), they have fast receivers in DJ and Maclin. They would cause matchup problems with Brown. I would think maybe haden starts against faster guys (also maybe against the steelers b/c of mike wallace). but against maybe Baltimore, haden doesn’t start b/c they have 2 guys in Mason and Boldin who aren’t as fast, but are very experienced veteran receivers and I would want more veteran CBs covering them.

This. Matchups will determine where they play.

This seems like a good bet. I do think Haden will be a starter sooner rather than later.

by Roger Dorn on Apr 28, 2010 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I think so too. But against maybe a team like the ravens, I just feel he might see a bit more nickel duty. I feel like a heavy hitter like Brown who is a crafty veteran and has been in the league for a long time would be able to handle boldin or Mason better.

Good point bross. Brown very well could play some corner.

Thanks Arizona. Now your illegals will come to my state. We don’t need any more.

I am going to go ahead and predict that Brown is not a safety at all this season unless we are desperate.

by Roger Dorn on Apr 28, 2010 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Fair enough, that’s reasonable. Perhaps it was just wishful thinking on my part that we’d get more out of Joe Haden in his rookie season. I assume if he’d start over Sheldon Brown that he’d be one hell of a corner.

by Simmsinns on Apr 28, 2010 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Brown very well could play some corner.

yeah he very well could play corner…it is his natural position.

This. My thought exactly when I read that line. I also think Delhomme could play some QB.

by TheDriveStillHurts on Apr 28, 2010 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s clearly better suited to play nose tackle.

Hey! That’s Alex Mack’s job!

by Simmsinns on Apr 28, 2010 11:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I just assumed that with his age and speed he wouldn’t play corner. Just having him roam around seemed right.

Thanks Arizona. Now your illegals will come to my state. We don’t need any more.

I think that Brown would be better at FS. since Elam has not signed his tender yet there aren’t alot of options at Saftey outside of the rookies. I kow Mangini has said that he doesn’t plan on playing Brown at saftey so you have to think that Ward will be playing SS and Elam FS if he signs. If not then it has to be Brown.

by deibson84 on Apr 29, 2010 10:34 PM EDT reply actions

Elam will sign his tender or not play football this year.

I assume he likes money, so he will end up signing.
