13. Taylor Mays--265 total points

15. Jimmy Clausen--196 total points

There was a significant drop after Clausen, 40 total points separated him from the next player.

On to the 16th-20th slots!

Star-divide

The draft board to date:

1. Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
2. Ndamukong Suh, DL, Nebraska

Our Draft Board

Our draft board will be a ranking of the players that are draft eligible, from best to worst.  It should also take need, value, and character into account--if you think these things should be taken into account at all.  If you always want the best player available, just rank them from best to worst.

For more information, see the initial Big Board post.

Instructions

Rank the top five available players. Take talent, value, need, and character into account if you think the Browns should take these things in to account when drafting.

Players will receive 5 points for every first place vote, 4 for every second place, and so on.  They will receive 0 points if they are unranked.  Total points from all ballots will be added, and the 5 players with the most votes will be taken out of the pool of available players and put up on the big board.

This is not a mock draft.

Don't predict what will happen

Don't think about other teams

Don't worry about who is available. Assume everyone you can vote for is available.  (I will take players out of the vote-able pool once we put them on the board)

Just rank your guys in the order you would like to see them drafted by the Browns.

For instance, I think the top five players purely in terms of talent are:

1. Ndamukong Suh, DT

2. Eric Berry, S

3. Gerald McCoy, DT

4. Sam Bradford, QB

5. Anthony Davis, OT

Because of need, value, and character, my first ballot will look like this:

1. Suh

2. Berry

3. Bradford

4. Earl Thomas

5. Rolando McClain

Please vote only once.

Using the Scouts Inc. rankings (yes, I am aware of how much you hate Todd McShay) I will compile a pool of 25 draft eligible players.  We will take a poll and rank players five at a time. New polls will happen every two days or so until the draft.

If there are players you think I should include in the draft-eligible pool--especially if they aren't coming up in McShay's rankings, let me know and I will put them in for the next poll.  Thanks for voting!

a) Rufio, as of right now, there is a problem with the poll. just letting you know

b) WOW…this surprised me. somehow, the 2 guys I considered some of the biggest risks made it on there (JPP and Mays)…and how Morgan nor Graham made it up in the top 15…

Yeah I realized after I posted the initial poll that about half the guys were listed at QB. So I had to re-do it. Should be good now.

I don’t think he fits very well in a 3-4. Right now we have two guys who are supposed to be pretty good going forward. If we were to draft an OLB it should be a guy who has some coverage ability. plus theres tons of more pressing needs.

I guess. I think personally he fits well and he looked solid at the combine in LB drills.

Not nearly as good as Jerry Hughes or Brandon Graham. Though I doubt we draft any of them. Mangini really likes bigger slower outside linebackers and Belicheck never drafts rush OLBs in the first round. Hopefully Mangini learned his lesson with Vernon Gohlston. Luckily we won’t have to pay the price for that mistake.

that is true. I still say at this point, he would be in their top 20 on their big board…he is just too talented not to be…

by bross09 on Apr 6, 2010 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Why does it matter what Belichick does?

This is Heckert’s draft.

Mangini really likes bigger slower outside linebackers

What is this based on? Victor Hobson, Clavin Pace, and Bryan Thomas were his OLB’s in NY. They are all speed guys. I would add Wimbley in there also.

Are you basing this all off of Roth and Bowens?

by Bernie19Kosar on Apr 7, 2010 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t call Gocong a plodder either. He ran a 4.7 at the combine and is only 265 lbs, not that big.

I teach good life choices. That’s why I almost didn’t graduate High School.

by bross09 on Apr 7, 2010 4:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Theres no way heckert picks a defensive guy that mangini isn’t interested in.
Belicheck and Mangini often eschew smaller speed rushers (240 lbs) for bigger more physical OLBs (Roth, Bowens, Gocong, Willie McGinest, Rosevelt Colvin) Its just the style of defense they play, you want 3 bigger stronger linebackers and then one inside linebacker who is a bit smaller and faster is ideal.

by Roger Dorn on Apr 6, 2010 11:47 AM EDT reply actions

Yes sir. I’m in love with the idea of him in the early 2nd to us, but I think the latest he goes is to Minnesota at 30. If it’s possible, I wouldn’t mind trading down to the early 20’s to get Colt. If we were to somehow walk away with Berry or Earl Thomas and Colt McCoy, I would be really satisfied.

Speaking of prospects, the Browns visited with Rutgers CB Devin McCourty today. I don’t know much about him, but he seems like an interesting pick if he falls to the second round. Grossi said he’s projected to go between 20 and 30.

What do people think about him?

by Buckeye Brad on Apr 6, 2010 1:40 PM EDT reply actions

I would love to see us pick up a quality CB. I’m not sure whether I would with a 2nd round pick, but I’m not running the show either. He could get some playing time in Nickel and Dime formations while learning behind Wright and Brown.

He or Kareem Jackson present nice value in the second. McCourty didn’t come from the fantastic Alabama coaching staff but he is really really fast.

Players I would prefer regardless of established value. For example:

2. Ndamukong Suh, DL, Nebraska…Ricardo Matthews, DT, Cincinnati
3. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma…Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
4. Joe Haden, CB, Florida…Terrell Skinner, CB, Maryland
5. Gerald McCoy, DL, Oklahoma…Torrell Troup, NG, Central Florida

6. Earl Thomas, S, Texas…Darrell Stuckey, S, Kansas
7. Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama…Mike McLaughlin, ILB, Boston College
8. Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St….Reggie Stephens, OT, Iowa State
9. Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St….Blair White, WR, Michigan State
10. Mike Iupati, OL, Idaho…Sean Luvao, OG, Arizona State

11. CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson…no one to speak of
12. Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa…Mitch Petrus, OT, Arkansas
13. Taylor Mays, S, USC…Andre Sexton, S, Oklahoma State
14. Jason Pierre-Paul, DE/OLB, USF…Arthur Jones, DE, Syracuse
15. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame…Colt McCoy, QB, Texas

Right, but he’s listing our big board and then providing someone he’d prefer over that. So, between 15 and 3, he’s saying McCoy over Clausen.

So it’s a coincidence that he’s listed an equivalent position at every pick for 15 picks in a row? And he thinks we should trade up to #1 to select his #3 player?

Actively seeking inspiration for a new handle

by danvail on Apr 9, 2010 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions

ok, so my understanding of his big board was wrong, but if he preferred mccoy over clausen wouldn’t he have put mccoy at number 3? he has McCoy as his second highest rated QB, and clausen as his highest rated QB.

by notthatnoise on Apr 9, 2010 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I read it as the player on the right is the player he would prefer over the player on the left.

Clausen over Bradford
McCoy over Claussen

Also they are two separate big boards.
On his board Clausen is 3 while on ours he is 15. I think when he got down to the 15 spot he forgot it was a list of players that he preferred and just listed McCoy as being 15 on his board.

As a consultant, if you´re not willing to get the blue chip clear cut talent Jimmy Clausen at number one (not saying he won´t fall, but you must indicate top tier interest), the wishing well goes way down. Unless you dedicate yourself to future starting quarterback at highest possible slot (quarterbacks deserve this nod), such as Tim Hiller…or another lesser known and hyped annointed one.
Tim Tebow has not seen a lot of appreciation around here. Colt McCoy is a decoy, I´m certain. And Sam Bradford is collateral. It´s only clever if you get away with it.

Perhaps, but it is fun on draft day to look at a comprehensive guide of 50 players and say, “Okay, according to the cumulative crop of Browns fans, we want [this] player.” The board may only apply for rounds one and two, but perhaps a few players will creep down to round three as well.
