Random Retrospective: 2008 Preview Edition
So, I've been playing around in my own comment history now that I realized one could do user specific comment searches. I came across a 2008 season preview thread where we made formatted predictions. Thread here. I always have fun reviewing how terribly wrong I was.
For example: "Most surprising unit on team: LBs. They may finally become a disruptive force under Tucker and behind this new line."
That's not the worst, though. Here's the ugly:
"Most Improved Player: Leon Williams. I think he’ll be the one to really create havoc in the backfield with the revamped front seven. 7+ sacks"
or
"Stallworth’s receiving yards: 750 Over, and he’s the reason for the over above [referring to Derek Anderson posting over an 84 QB rating]." Doh.
At least I was right about Wimbley and Winslow. How'd you do?
This is a fan-created post. Dawgs By Nature assumes no responsibility for the content listed.

Other notes:
DBN was collectively REALLY high on Wimbley.
DBN was fairly sold on DA being an average to solid starter, but not great.
Mr. Kelsey is smart: “On Anderson- I think he is really bad. I really do.”
For all my DA love, at least I made one accurate comment, “does DA seem any dumber than Roethlisberger? Honestly, that guy gives me more of a dumbass vibe than some of the linebackers to have played in that city.”

I was very guilty on that one.

i think i joined after the 2008 season started and didn’t do a prediction on here, therefore:
i predicted DA would be awful, we would fall way off from where we were in 2007, and it would be romeo’s last year as HC; i also said BE would develop the dropsies and that we’d all hate him inside a year.

Just took a look at some of my old posts. A few observations:
1. Am I the only one who didn’t pick up on Rocland’s recent name change?
2. The conversations were a lot better during the season.
3. Terrible Terry Tate should be a minion.
4. Where did Don’tCallMeJoey disappear to?

Love this retrospective thread idea. Unfortunately, I wasn’t around yet in 2008. (I don’t know how you all managed to get by without me. Joke)
Anyway, I started commenting here in the 2009 off-season.
I just thought it’d be fun to point out I was right about 2 things then:
.
Jerome Harrison (from this thread):
May 17, 2009
I would love to see more Jerome Harrison this season, and it is a big shame we didn’t see more of him in 2008. He has only been continuously getting better every year. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry in ’07 and improved on that in ’08 by another yard with 7.2 per carry, and remember those numbers are despite being held back so much so for the past two years. I think the potential for a breakout season is pretty obvious.
.
Brady Quinn & Derek Anderson sucking (from this epic thread):
June 18, 2009
Lets say we do trade for Marshall, and we have Edwards, and 100 or so rookie WRs… now lets go as far to say they become an amazing receiving core like we’ve seen in Arizona, New England, or Indy…… we’re missing a piece that all those teams had. Payton Manning, Tom Brady, even Kurt Warner. We don’t have that caliber of QB. We are stuck with two or three decent back-up QBs that make for sub-par starters. Unless DA has some miracle return to the first half of 2007, but I know most of you here don’t think that’ll happen.
Albeit one of my reasons for foreseeing Quinn as no good was stupid, my main point holds true today: He sucks, as does Anderson.
Do you realize that link about Brandon Marshall was our first taste of Mooncamping?
Yikes.

Moon at that point wanted Mack to play guard, but decided after watching him play this season that he is more ideally suited for NG. Unger was one of moon’s favorite centers, but we already had Eric Steinbach who in moon’s eyes is a perfectly capable center. Hopefully this clarifies everything.

Unfortunately I wasn’t around here way back then, either. But I’ve got to say that I felt the same curiosity to see what Harrison could do. He always showed flashes of his talent in the limited opportunities that he got. The question now is if he can sustain it. More importantly, will he even be the starter now that Hardesty is here and impressing everyone from the get-go?
Colt McCoy... the cure for Cleveland's Eric Berry man-crush.
Not to rain on your parade, but the Jerome Harrison bandwagon has been overloaded with DBNers for a very long time. The thread I link above actually has a number of predictions about Harrison prior to the 08 season.
Actively seeking inspiration for a new handle
I would have to give Chris a lot of credit for this.
I also remember asking Tony Grossi why Harrison couldn’t get on the field under Romeo because his yards per touch were incredible. That was back when I actually could stand Tony Grossi, so it had to have been quite a while ago.

Obviously McDonald failed, and the precipitous drop off of Jones still mystifies me. Spot on about the OL, and Wimbley optimism aside, the LB too.

Is there a way to permanently block a specific user’s posts? Like, they don’t show up at all if I’m logged in, it doesn’t say "one new post" and I don’t have to waste my time clicking on it to read drivel like this?

I forget, did that Greasemonkey script just blot out a given user’s posts, or did it render invisible the entire thread they’d started?
Sometimes reading DBN without mooncamping’s posts would be quite odd. The holes where moon was missing (and the surrounding tumult) would draw more attention than he did. Shades of Garfield Minus Garfield!
