Waiver Worries?

We have a while yet to go until coaches start winnowing down the roster, but sooner or later some of these project players are going to be sitting on the waiver wire (sounds uncomfortable) waiting before they land on the practice squad.  Granted, what we know about most of those players at this point = not much.  But, since there's nothing else going on right now why not talk about something other than the QB outlook?

So, who are the project players that you most worry about losing to waivers?

I still like what I saw out of Coye Francies last year in the pre season, I can’t imagine him making the squad with our new found depth in the secondary. What about James Davis? He’s too good to go to the practice squad, but can he make the roster? Probably not when we’re holding onto 4 quaterbacks already…

I don’t see them keeping 4 QBs. Ratliff most likely won’t make the team. I’d hate to see Davis go cuz I think he’ll be a good back, but with the moves that they’ve made in terms of RBs, it’s likely that he’ll be waived or better yet traded for something.

Look for Ben Burney and Chris Chancellor of the UDFA’S to make a serious push for a roster spot at CB. Burney’s built like safety (5-11/205) and runs a 4.38- 40. ChancelIor started his final 42 games at strong side corner for Clemson (#7 in the nation). If this happens, then Ramzee Robinson and DeAngelo Smith will be the first to go from this squad. That would STILL make 7 CB’s to choose from. Coye’s got upside for sure, but the talent coming in is fierce.

Its a valid concern. However, too much depth at areas where we have had injuries the last few years is a good thing. In the event we skate through with no preseason injuries at these positions, we could use these players as trade chips to strengthen other positions. Its a fluid process that’s not worth worrying too much about in May.

…says a Bengals fan.

You do know that your precious round 1 QB has done nothing more than blow it for you at two attempts in the divisional round. Heaven forbid your piece of crap Front Office can actually put the right pieces together to form an actual playoff contending team.

Heaven forbid they actually win a championship, of any name. If Paul Brown couldn’t do it for them, I wonder who ever will.

If Ratliff, Davis and Francies all get cut we can already start downgrading our class of last year. These are Mankok guys, it’s on them.

Mankok! Wow, you sure are clever, sir. I’ve never heard that before. Kudos.

I don’t see a problem with using Mankok.
