Can we all thank Al Davis for drafting Jamarcus? Seriously, had he taken Calvin Johnson — as I believe most others in the Raiders wanted to do — the Browns would have taken Jamarcus (I don’t think Detroit would take him), and not Joe Thomas.
Savage was in love with the guy. I think he even tried to trade up with the Raiders to get him, but Al wouldn’t do it.

I’m not sure if we know that. There were stories that Savage loved Russell and thought about trading up to get him. Of course, we don’t know if that’s true but we also can’t be sure that it’s false.
I remember that draft, nearly everyone was saying he was the #1 pick and it was a good one. It is hard to fault the Raiders for this pick.
Seriously kwoog? Do you deny that if Jamarcus had fallen to us, we would have taken him? Of course, we would have. Savage loved him. Of course, Savage was not alone but the point of my comment was that we are lucky that we did not draft this guy.
You’re beginning to become a parody of yourself. Your willingness to rewrite history for Savage is really something. I think we are going to start hearing things like this from you:
“Comrade Savage had nothing to do with trading for Corey Williams. Comrade Savage did not trade for Beau Bell and Martin Rucker.” Along with airbrushed pictures showing Mangini in Savage’s place with Bell & Rucker on draft day.

I think you should reconsider your righteous didactic style. It only works for very few people who actually have the machinery behind the curtain.
That’s funny, because kwoog once claimed that I had “no intellectual integrity” because I made a statement without explaining myself, which is the exact same thing he’s doing there.
I’m not sure why the article is so pessimistic on him getting another shot — wouldn’t he be essentially free with the Raiders picking up most of the tab?

Depends what the market is for him. My bet is he’ll latch on somewhere like Buffalo for two years, $6M.
Actively seeking inspiration for a new handle
6 million dollars?!?!? Yeah right. Not. Gonna. Happen. He’ll be lucky to find someone to sign him for one year at the league minimum. Go research what happened to Leaf’s career after leaving the Chargers.

ha…true. pisses me off, I won’t even come close to making that in my lifetime and this guy doesn’t even put an effort into it and gets that. Who said life is fair though.

Life should be fair, and people should embrace that view. The fact that currently it’s not is something to overcome in society, not a reason to accept gross inequities (“who said life is fair though”).

Life will never be fair. Joe Q hits the lottery, while Joe X has his family killed in a car accident. Jane X gets married and has kids, while Jane Q cannot for health problems. Its just the nature of, well, nature.
However, I do believe that life is all in how you take it though. I’m not rich by any means, but I’m happy with where I am. I’m doing well for myself, married to a good woman, ect.. I think this is more a life philosophy view that one has than anything else.
That said, I was only being sarcastic above.

Life isn’t fair, and it will never be fair, and there is absolutely nothing we can do to overcome it. So it’s much better to realize that then to have unrealistic expectations.
but just because it isn’t fair doesn’t mean we can’t make it better. sure, because of things like random chance it can never be completely fair. but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strive to make it as fair as possible.

Societies work to make things more fair, but don’t always do so effectively or really know how to make things fair.
And when people do attempt to gauge such things, either as individuals or as societies, they often come to very different conclusions as to just what is and isn’t fair.
That's just noise.

Cultural relativism. Most nations don’t possess it.

He undoubtedly worked harder than the great majority of the people who got your money in the bailout. Economics comment, not political, right?
