The PD is reporting today that the Browns have signed Colt McCoy to a 4-year contract worth almost $5 million. They paid a "quaterback premium" of about 50% over the normal slot. They also agreed to a 4-year deal with G Shawn Lauvao worth up to $3.22 million.

And Lauvao can now donate some money to refill the lake by his old home, Sun Devil stadium.

Why Would I Root For Pittsburgh?
Longtime Browns fan and Texas Longhorn Alum. Want McCoy to lead us to promised land and have a lot of confidence in his leadership abilities.

Is there some sort of secret system or method with signing rookies? it seems like they start from the lowest drafted and work their way up (in general)…or is it working out more money in contracts takes more time.

That is exactly the system — formally or not, it is how it is done. It may be somewhat attributable to that it takes more time to work out money with earlier picks, but there is clearly a system here. No 3rd round picks had been signed in the entire NFL until today (or yesterday), and not a single second or first round pick has signed.

yeah. I guess this makes sense with money. It just seemed weird that we signed our 6th rounders, than 5th rounders, than 3rd rounders…but now I get it.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the late round draft picks are just happy to be in the NFL, and realize they don’t have any leverage. A first or second rounder has a bit of leverage (though still not much).
