Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report: Day 1 (Evening) - Who Picked Delhomme?
Saturday morning got off to a rather eventful start, but as is sometimes the case early in training camp, the team doesn't go all out for both practice sessions. That was the case during the Cleveland Browns' evening session of camp, but there are still a couple of nuggets to pass along.
TRAINING CAMP REPORT - DAY 1 [EVENING] (7/31/10)
- Big Play for Massaquoi: The highlight of the evening session was QB Jake Delhomme connecting on a "bomb"/fade route with WR Mohamed Massaquoi. I neglected to mention Chansi Stuckey in the morning session, so I'll squeeze this in here: reports generally noted that he caught the ball well. Syndric Steptoe also received a few praises here and there from the morning session.
- D'Qwell Wants It?: After making headlines for his big hit on fullback Peyton Hillis in the morning session, LB D'Qwell Jackson made them again in the evening session by picking off Delhomme. The interception came at the line of scrimmage, and was reportedly Delhomme's only interception of the entire day.
- Watson for the TD: CBSSports notes two specific plays that I'll mention, first starting with TE Ben Watson. In a one-on-one drill, Watson reportedly "faked out LB David Bowens" for a touchdown.
- Cribbs Catching Through Traffic: The other play mentioned involved WR Joshua Cribbs, where he caught a pass despite having safeties Mike Adams and Ray Ventrone draped all over him. Despite Cribbs' lack of success as a pure receiver last year, he still seems to be getting plenty of reps through Day 1.
- More on Moore: We're already seeing a heavy dose of news involving tight end Evan Moore after just one day. Moore dropped a pass in the evening session after LB Chris Gocong made it a difficult attempt for him in coverage. Nonetheless, Moore still continued hauling in passes the rest of practice.
- What Shaun Rogers Is Up To: Over at the Akron Beacon Journal, they have a photo of DL Shaun Rogers having fun with the JUGS machine while he waits to be cleared to practice.
- McCoy Getting Some Work: The team isn't ignoring QB Colt McCoy by any means. The OBR took note of several of his plays -- a long pass down the sideline to Jerome Harrison, a pass to James Davis (who broke away from LB Kaluka Maiava), and a deep pass to WR Brian Robiskie (who beat CB Sheldon Brown).
- Brownies: OT Tony Pashos didn't participate, but he was on the exercise bike...CB Joe Haden did not practice despite signing in between sessions...as stated before camp started, QB Seneca Wallace saw reps with the first-team offense in 11-on-11 drills...one more quick note from the morning sessions: RB Chris Jennings did not win over fans with his blocking abilities, but he didn't look so bad on special teams.
The first day of Browns training camp is over, but they'll be back on the field Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Also, feel free to check out this forum post over at thebrownsboard.com for a good recap of the morning session (written as more of a story than just 'notes').

Watson and Moore are hopefully our opening game TE’s with Royal as the #3 if he makes the team. The more i read the more i like about moore.
Here is a good recap, with some quotes from players/coaches, of Day 1 of Training Camp by the Canton Repository’s Steve Doerschuk:

Foot surgery. He’s old.
It’s not a lie if you believe it.

Yes, he is. I read about a few players running laps, but didn’t mention any of those. The defensive coaches reportedly had to run laps for some reason too, including Rob Ryan and Bryan Cox.

For being fat? Haha
I can't believe Cribbs was considered the second best athlete in Cleveland.

This would only work if someone played Chariots of Fire while they ran.

Call me crazy, but I refuse to stop fantasizing about Cribbs as a viable WR.

I used to say the same thing about Brady as a QB.
Save yourself the time.

Ouch. Thanks B19K. Of all the arguments that could make me see reason, this one might hit the hardest!
