Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report: Day 11 (Evening) - Quarterbacks Thrive
This report is for the team's Tuesday evening practice.
The Cleveland Browns took the practice field Tuesday evening after seeing several players suffer injuries in the morning session. We mentioned a possible pectoral injury to LB D'Qwell Jackson during the evening session last night, but hopefully the reports are true that the injury isn't too serious. Let's get to the practice recap now...
TRAINING CAMP REPORT - DAY 11 [EVENING] (8/10/10)
- Quarterbacks Can Gloat: Besides the injury to Jackson, the buzz Tuesday evening involved quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, who reportedly lit it up in red zone drills. CBS Sports said, "Both fired TD pass after TD pass and every one was perfectly thrown. It was a display not seen from Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn last year."
- Delhomme's Success: One of Delhomme's highlights came when WR Chansi Stuckey hauled in a one-handed touchdown pass after beating safety Ray Ventrone. Delhomme also reportedly kept finding tight end Evan Moore during the red zone drills.
- Wallace's Success: As good as Delhomme was, the reports seem to indicate that this was Wallace's best practice of camp. He threw touchdown passes to WR Joshua Cribbs, WR Johnathan Haggerty, and TE Robert Royal in red zone drills.
- Ward vs. Massaquoi: CBS Sports notes that T.J. Ward and Mohamed Massaquoi had two good 1-on-1 battle with each other, with Massaquoi grabbing a touchdown pass once and Ward knocking the ball out of his hands the next time around.
- Hillis in the Wildcat: Fullback Peyton Hillis got involved in the Wildcat, taking some direct snaps down near the goal line.
- Wright Sidelined: Defensive back Eric Wright didn't participate in the evening practice and neither did Brandon McDonald. That elevated the roles of rookie Joe Haden and veteran Mike Adams.
- Brownies: It appears as though Eric Mangini has cancelled Wednesday's practice again, which was scheduled for the media only...Chansi Stuckey had a very good day besides his one-handed grab...Braylon Edwards is still a tool.

I think Seneca could really impact this team. i get the sense if delhomme struggles or goes down, we’d have a much more talented leader at QB in seneca than we’ve had in anyone else recently.
it intrigues me that not only can he be effective running “wildcat” type stuff, when he needs to throw he has the strength and accuracy to do it.
However, he still has the tendency to roll out to the right outside of the pocket, as reported by Chris from the scrimmage last Saturday. This could end up being a problem.

That’s actually fringe-brilliance right there. That’d be pretty epic to see that causing headache after headache just to see it suddenly go flip side for a TD.

Wallace has a lot of bad tendencies. Foremost among them is the tendency to run backwards and to run out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage.

it’s good to hear this type of stuff, but still, it’s only one practice. i’m confident in jake, though, and i think that he will be around an average QB for the browns, which is better than what the team has had in a while.
it’s good to hear that he is developing chemistry with the TEs, since his main problem last year was that he didn’t see the whole field and often tried to force long balls to steve smith. his arm strength isn’t what it used to be, so those balls would often be underthrown and intercepted. hopefully this year he will be tempted to make more short, safe throws.
Jake is my hommeboy
I’m really liking what we’re seeing from Hillis. Fast, quick, great at catching passes, and a better blocker than Harrison. I’m starting to think we really ripped off the Broncos when we got him for Quinn and a couple of draft picks.
I love Hillis. I hope we get him the ball a lot. He can do a lot of things really well, and he may have better hands than any of our receivers.

This picture makes him look beast
I can't believe Cribbs was considered the second best athlete in Cleveland.
LBJ. Lying. Backstabbing. Jackass.

Actually, that’s really Joe Thomas. The picture was photoshopped to hide the fact that Joe Thomas is just as dangerous running the ball as he is at blocking.

I still wonder why we got Peyton Hillis, he could very well have gotten the fans´ choice award in Denver. Wallace on the other hand was popular, but kind of ineffective in Seattle, while Delhomme was always type of entity in Carolina that was sufficiently effective but often left the fans hoping for more at the position. All in all, I think Holmgren will try to use Hillis as candy to arrive at a stronger running game by committee, and Wallace and Delhomme will serve as a type of primer to make us hungry for greater possibilities. It´s a very calculated approach, and I find myself realizing that it is Homgren´s not Mangini´s handwriting for the first time.

He threw touchdown passes to WR Joshua Cribbs…
I will not get too excited about Cribbs at WR. I will not get too excited about Cribbs at WR. I will not…
Ah, f**k. I’m excited. Sue me.
