What position should the Browns draft?
I know it is very early, but I am interested in which position people think the Browns should draft next year, at this point in the year. If this receives well with everybody, I will try to post a couple of these throughout the season as both the Browns' and the college season progress. But for right now I will just put positions down, as the seasons progress and we get a better idea of what the Browns need and what players will go into the draft, I will narrow things down.
This is a fan-created post. Dawgs By Nature assumes no responsibility for the content listed.

i find it nearly impossible to even think about this right now.
1. i’m excited that the season is starting and don’t care about the draft in august.
2. we have no idea what will become of the players we already have, so we have no idea what we’ll need at this point.
This. I’d like to luxuriate a bit in the potential of our current players, not guess which ones won’t develop and will become our big weak spots going forward. Give it a couple of months and I’ll probably feel differently!

After this past spring and the flood of draft posts by bross and jaws, I doubt I’ll ever want to talk about the draft.

What happened to jaws anyways? He disappeared?

No option for Kicker, so I didn’t vote.

Hahaha, was Mangini the one that drafted Mike Nugent in the second round? If so I may have to add kicker.

I don’t think it was mangini, especially since he was the coach and not GM, and i think it was the third round. then again, I’m just going from memory here
I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.

Definitely second round, definitely before Mangini’s tenure as head coach of the Jets.

Best player available who isn’t a LT or C. You might be able to add CB and RB to that list depending how the season turns out.
Also, I think anytime you don’t have a franchise QB and you think a franchise QB is on the board, you take him.

yep. I would have voted for QB but I didn’t think luck would be available (just thinking about where he will likely go and where we will likely draft in my mind).

Well I would say first you have got to look at QB. You have two stopgaps (if that) and a third round draft pick. Luck and Gabbert to me are the best QBs, but its doubtful they both leave. Mallet, Locker and Johnson are some other names worth mentioning.
WR is a hard posititon to ignore with it looking like a need and with how strong the receiving class looks this year. The top guys look like AJ Green, Michael Floyd, Jonathan Baldwin, Julio Jones, and DeAndre Brown who you might know for this

Gabbert on the Browns would be too much for me to handle right now, let’s let the season play out before I get excited.

If we get a pick around 10-15 next year then I could definately see us going after a WR in the draft. Even if MoMass and Robiskie play well this year that is still going to be a big need for us; we don’t have a WR who is a game-breaker. And I think the low teens is a good place to start taking WR’s.

If you think some guy could be the next ______ (insert elite receiver here) then it wouldn’t be a bad pick.

Serious question, if we had drafted Jimmy Clausen in the 3rd round would you refer to him as a “third round draft pick?”
Kill them. Kill them all.
Yes, but I never have liked McCoy as a pro prospect.

Also if you really want a RT, Carimim seems like a great prospect with Barksdale for LSU being another good one.
Robert Quinn is the best player as of now in the draft. But he will probably require a top 5 pick which could happen (no offense). If he is available and you think he could transition to OLB it’d be hard not to take him. Von Miller is a good college 3-4 OLB and had a ton of sacks last year.
DE is stacked this year with Dareus, Crick, and Clayborn all being top 15 prospects.
ILB isn’t worth a early first round pick unless its a P Willis-type guy, and Donta Hightower isn’t at that level.

I agree with you. If we can get Gabbert or Luck, I would take a QB but
a) they may not come out
b) we may not be in a position to get them
Therefore, I go WR with all the great players available.

It is a bit premature for this discussion. Naturally, we’re all hoping the new guys will dramatically improve the team. I agree with rufio about getting the franchise QB and BB about the game-braking WR. My first thoughts, though, were 1. a Joe Thomas clone for RT, 2. a dominant pass rusher at LB, and 3. the game-braking WR.
Colt McCoy... the cure for Cleveland's Eric Berry man-crush.
Taking the question as pure fantasy, ie ignoring franchise QBs and best available player at that position, I voted DE, out of possible DE, OLB & RT. Because:
I think we have spent enough of the OL, two firsts & as top drawer free agent. You can’t sdrop all your resources on OL, you need a couple of lower rounders/ outside shots. I’m seriously hoping Luvao comes though.
I think our LBs may actually be underrated as a unit, certainly with Rob running the show. And despite lack of one outstanding player our pass rush was actually good last year.
Assuming Rogers doesn’t make some unnaturally good shift to DE, our DEs are very old and purely sacrificial clogging DEs. I bet Rob could do a whole lot more with the defense if he could get someone more dominant on the line.
For QB & WR (and ILB) I’d give it another year to see how previous investments pan out….
Welcome Joe!
Go Seneca!

I think this makes sense. I really think we have a shot at the SB. I think this is our year. I mean, it better be our year if Cleveland has any hope of actually winning a championship before LeBron James does.
… But realistically, I don’t think we will win the super bowl. However, I really think that we will finish in 3rd place in our division ahead of the Steelers, and I think that feeling would be next best feeling to winning the super bowl.
There’s not much talent on the Browns team, to be honest. Draft the best player available. I hope we get a decent set of RBs this year so we don’t have to worry about the ground game. TE and OL (left side) look good. If Haden develops, we can forget CB.
The quarterback situation… I’ll leave that to wiser people.
My biggest concern is DL and LB. No talent there. We’ll just have to see.
