Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report: Day 17 - The Brown Pants Are Dead
This is the final week of Cleveland Browns practices that are open to the public, so if you haven't headed out to Berea yet, find some time to get out there! The Browns had one afternoon session today, although most of the news doesn't really cover what happened on the field during practice...
TRAINING CAMP REPORT - DAY 17 (8/16/10)
- No More Brown Pants: I couldn't have been happier to hear that the Brown pants are dead, according to Eric Mangini, because they weren't very well received. I'm very happy to see them gone; the only time I'd be interested in bringing them back is if they went along with an orange top.
- Hardesty Still a Week Away: It looks like running back Montario Hardesty will miss another week of action but should be back next week, according to Mangini. Running backs Peyton Hillis and James Davis left the practice field Monday, though it isn't believed either back suffered anything serious.
- Injuries at the Receiver Position: The Browns had seen enough of receiver Johnathan Haggerty this year, as they placed him on the waived/injured list. If he clears waivers, he'll be on the injured reserve all season and we'll likely see him in next year's camp. Mohamed Massaquoi missed practice with his hamstring injury, but he's expected to return soon.
- Offensive Line: With Floyd Womack and Tony Pashos missing practice, the first-unit saw Shawn Lauvao and John St. Clair at right guard and right tackle again. Pashos says that he is working his way back and it close to returning.
- Wright Back to Practice: Cornerback Eric Wright participated in practice, seeing some reps with the first team and at the nickel back position. Rookie Joe Haden also saw reps with the first team defense.
- Baxter Pays a Visit: According to the Akron Beacon Journal, former Cleveland Browns cornerback Gary Baxter paid a visit to Berea to greet some of the players, including tight ends Robert Royal and Benjamin Watson, and defensive back Mike Adams.
- Mitchell Drops a Pass: I'm finding it difficult to believe that receiver Carlton Mitchell will win a spot on the 53-man roster. CBS Sports reports that he dropped a perfect pass from Brett Ratliff in 11-on-11 drills.
- Brownies: QB Colt McCoy missed practice but should play versus the St. Louis Rams this Saturday...former Browns defensive tackle Gerard Warren might be a favorite to start for the Patriots...Delhomme only played one series against Green Bay because his number of snaps (11) was close enough to his limit (15).
Monday's Link Collection / Camp Sources

- T.J. Ward promises to be a quick learner (Plain Dealer, Grossi)

Anyone else starting to get a little paranoid that the injury issues that people talked about with Hardesty might come to fruition? I’m going to try to think positive.
I am content with our offense this season featuring Jerome Harrison. Having Hardesty is merely a bonus in my mind; otherwise Hillis can get more of his reps.

I actually agree whole heartedly. I’ve actually been calling for more Harrison since late 2007. Even on this blog in the off-season, early 2009. I’ve seen a very high ceiling for him. I think he fully deserves, and has for sometime, to be the primary back in our system.
That said however, I still thought Hardesty might be a steal, and I fully supported a 2 back system, even if to just protect the longevity of Harrison’s career. There was one thing people kept mentioning, can he stay injury free? We shall see.
With the depth we have at running back I am not scared at all. Harrion, Hardesty, Davis, and Jennings plus Vickers and Hillis all add up to a pretty good depth. If we bust on Hardesty, our run game isn’t derailed like it was in the past.

I think our o-line and Vickers can make nearly any RB look good, if not great.
Kill them. Kill them all.

It is a little troubling that he keeps getting injured, and it seems to be his knees a lot. It is reassuring that the injuries to his knees do not seem to have anything to do with the other injuries to his knees.
Maybe there is something he could look at in terms of his running style in the offseason. There are definitely things he can do physically to help himself avoid injury, but I think he is pretty much going to have to make it through this season first.

The Brown pants would be sweet with the white pants stripe design, which I described in my first ever front page post.
I can't believe Cribbs was considered the second best athlete in Cleveland.

I would’ve been up for it had today not happened haha. Another personal event that could take some time to dissolve. (This time with my license and the DMV, ARGH!)
Also, they were never well received. I think it was because I would kinda rush them and I was subjective everyone and awhile. I could give it a crack again but my gf always heckled me about it.

I think the Brownie Thoughts posts were fine; I picked you because I wanted someone to deliver a weekly discussion topic related to football that had a different tone than the rest of the week’s posts. The thing that bombed was my idea for you doing the power rankings summary, since each week it was just a repetitive post showing that the media believes the Browns blow.

We have more talent, i doubt we’ll always be at the bottom.

If the season is approaching and you don’t have the access to post it to the front page, remind me via email.

Anyone else find it weird she’s on that Eminem song considering the lyrics and the subject matter?

No.
“I’m Not Afraid,” “Rude Boy,”So Hard," “Love the way you lie.”
she says it’s not, but I find it obvious what it’s all about.

I’ve only heard the Rude Boy song and I was surprised by the Eminem song because it’s so blunt.

extremely weird. I’m close with someone who survived domestic violence, and she can’t believe rihanna would ever do songs like that. She’s really up in arms about it, saying that it’s really setting back domestic violence awareness because it makes it seem like it’s ok or like people deserve it.
We should probably end this discussion before anything gets out of hand.
I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.

You should tell your friend not to be literal. Rihanna sings it like she is the unaware, thinks it’s okay victim. It’s obvious how she sings it. Your friend is just really bad at diagnosing songs.

It might be obvious to you, but you’re (presumably) intelligent. to most people listening to that song it just sounds like rihanna thinks domestic violence is ok.
this is the last line of the song (not counting the chorus).
If she ever tries to fucking leave again
I’mma tie her to the bed
And set the house on fire
I would have much more faith that your subjective interpretation is the one people were getting if it weren’t for the fact that most people think “Born in the USA” is patriotic and “Time of Your Life” is played at every graduation. people take songs literally.

I liked the brown pants.
Hardesty is just cooling his heels until regular season starts. Maybe Hillis should do the same.
Watch the Carlton Mitchell highlight video on youtube, he´s a good player. Give him some stickum or something.
I did too. I was very disappointed to see a lack of brown pants. I HATE when we go all white like that. Lack of colors is not fun at all.

Yeah, white pants is like olden days football pants, every team had white pants, from the seventies on.
Tradition is useless.

I’m in favor of this, or as stated above the orange jersey brown pants combo.
