NFL Week 1 TV Distribution Maps
Did the Cleveland Browns get the "Z" announcers this week or what? Calling the Cleveland vs. Tampa Bay game this Sunday on CBS will be Rich Gannon and Spero Dedes. Dedes is new to CBS, previously doing radio work for Los Angeles Lakers games.
The game will probably be blacked out for Tampa Bay fans this week. If you live in the Cleveland area, these are the games you will see this Sunday:
1:00 PM Games
-Cleveland Browns vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (CBS)
-Atlanta Falcons vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (FOX)
4:00 PM Games
-Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles (FOX)
8:20 PM Games
-Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins (NBC)

YES! If the Steelers game is on FOX, I’ll see the Browns game on CBS!
I can't believe Cribbs was considered the second best athlete in Cleveland.
LBJ. Lying. Backstabbing. Jackass.
..this sounds obvious, but if the Steelers were on CBS, Youngstown would play them over the Browns so I’m overjoyed right now.

Zooming in on the map, Youngstown is just BARELY getting the Browns/Bucs game. Just outside of Youngstown, it is Cincy/New England.

That would be so f-ing ridiculous if they pulled the Bengals over the Browns IN THIS AREA.

Well that figures . . . Columbus is getting the Bengals over the Browns so I’ll have to find a bar to watch the game. I expect this will happen often this year with all our games on at 1. I like it better when the Bengals suck so they don’t have to worry about pleasing the front-running Bengals fans here in C-bus and they can go back to showing the Browns all the time.

Any thoughts about a good bar in the northern Columbus area to watch games? I know Westerville Browns Backers is at Jimmy V’s in Westerville. I guess I’m tired of BW3 and open to checking out new places, particularly those where my Steelers fan wife (I know, I know, but her family is from Pittsburgh) won’t feel too out of place.

The Buckeye Browns Backers is at the Winking Lizard on Bethel Rd. I’ve been there a few times for games and that’s really fun, although your wife might not like it there so much. There is also a Winking LIzard at Crosswoods (off 23 just north of 270) which is probably closer to you and a more diverse crowd. I’ve also watched games at Average Joe’s on the corner of Sancus and Lazelle just south of Polaris (which is basically just around the corner from my house). It’s never too busy there and they have good specials for NFL games.
I’m probably going to go somewhere to watch the game this Sunday so let me know if you’re going and maybe we can meet up. (And the same goes for every other Sunday when the Browns aren’t on here.)

The only difference for me (small North West Ohio city, but get the Toledo channels) is instead of the Pittsburgh game, we get Detroit v. Chicago.
I’ll be watching a lot of my fantasy players on online streams anyhow. I love the internet.

That’s offered that for free now, on about 6 different websites that offer links to p2p streams.
No, it’s not in HD on my 56 inch television which is disappointing. But, I simply cannot justify $300 when I get a slightly lower quality of the same thing on the internet entirely for free.

I understand that everyone doesn’t have that kind of coin to spend, but trust me, it is worth it.
When I was in younger, about 6 of my friends and I all threw in and split the fee. Sometimes I had to sacrifice the Browns to watch a game that “didn’t suck”, but Browns 13 times a season on a big screen is better than nothing.
Plus, with fantasy football running my life, it is a must have.

And it’s free for the season if you sign up for Directv.
by TheDriveStillHurts on Sep 7, 2010 1:18 AM EDT up reply actions
It’s only offered on DirectTV. I have DirectTV too. I’ve honestly considered every season since switching from Dish. And, it’s only free for new customers, they treat the ones that already signed a 2-year like garbage. That’s why I’ll be switching to digital cable as soon as that agreement runs out.

True but have you checked the channel lineups on cable? Hell Time Warner almost didn’t have ESPN renewed. No NFL network, maybe you’ll get Big 10 and that’s just sports. Don’t even get me started on all the news and other channels Directv has that cable either doesn’t have or you need their 150/mo super premium package to get. Directv is far from perfect (I’m still nervous that my dish will fill up with ice this winter and not work) but its a million times better then cable.

FiOS is pretty good, unless you were getting it in hopes of getting football package, the only one they have is redzone.

I have the Quadplay package which includes cellular. Their starter package is the same price as Comcast and you get a lot more channels/waaaay better internet.

I don’t know how it stacks up for internet and phone, but FiOS is a hell of a lot cheaper than cable.
I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.
I know that the basic cable deal at At&t is pretty good. however, you don’t save anything significant when you ‘package’. you never save a ton, but the savings at At&T are minimal (like a couple dollars a month). Right now, we are figuring out if WOW will connect to our house because they have packages for about 80 dollars.
I looked, to get the equivalent of the cable we have, the phone we have, and the internet speed equivalent at At&T to our roadrunner high speed, we would pay more. (we would pay about 5 less for the first year, but then 15 more after the first year). Its 5 dollars less for one year, but then more…I don’t think its worth switching over for that.
Plus, I don’t know what channels they carry at AT&T and right now, I get STO, FSO, Golf Channel, and BTN…I don’t want to lose those.
I teach good life choices. That’s why I almost didn’t graduate High School.

I whole-heartedly disagree. You get all the ESPN channels, versus, STO, FSO, BTN, Golf Network, and Speed. that’s a lot of sports.
Maybe you could help me here, but what channels does DTV offer that cable doesn’t?
I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.
I’m still a bit nervous about a blackout because that same blackout will apply to the DirecTV broadcast, at least in whatever the league decides is the local viewing area for the Bucs. I don’t trust them to not apply that definition so liberally as to include Augusta, GA, and our local CBS station still list the game to be broadcast locally as TBD.
I’ve tried putting a link in here to the tampabay.com link that talks about a potential blackout, but alas, I see it not in the preview.
If you live in GA, I doubt you will be blacked out for the Browns-Bucs game.
I may be wrong, but I think the NFL only blacks out a 75 mile radius.
by Bernie19Kosar on Sep 7, 2010 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions
I hope that’s the case. A few years ago the Browns were playing a team out west (can’t for the life of me remember which) and it was blacked out on Sunday ticket. Definitely none of the local stations were broadcasting it. DirecTV claimed it fell under the NFL blackout rules, though they didn’t specify just which rule.
I was thinking about seeing if my daughter wants to go, but she’s not really in to football and I don’t know if I can talk her into sitting in 92 degrees of Florida humidity for a few hours.
I live in NC and have the sunday ticket. Is this the reason why when we scrolled the guide last night for todays games that they have an unclear schedule for the browns/bucs game? It says something like hd short cut or something like that. Im assuming if I turn to that channel at 1 today that the game will be there. I would guess that the blackout status makes it unclear?

Has anyone heard Spero Dedes’ play by play before, either with the Lakers or the NCAA tournament this year? I was scanning the Internet for comments, and apparently Lakers fans just love his radio work and say they wish he could do TV games. Obviously basketball vs. football announcing is different, but maybe he’ll end up not being so “Z-ish.”
Dawgs By Nature - Covering the Cleveland Browns on SB Nation.
I find that the lower-level announcers are often better than the top guys because they haven’t been force-fed by the networks to call the game they want it to be called and actually pay attention to what’s going on in the game instead of trying to hard to have a “personality” or do their schtick. I used to love readin Paul Zimmerman’s announcer grades when he was still writing for SI.com and he usually gave the worst marks to the top teams because they talk about too much stuff besides football and just promote the star players. Sometimes the bottom guys are the ones who actually care about calling a good game.
Of course, sometimes the lower-level guys suck and that’s why they are where they are.

I want the crew that kept calling Eric Wright a top 5 cornerback every time he was involved in a play. I agree with what you said, but I think the “middle” crop of announcers fit the bill of not being force-fed.

Games are delayed a lot, I don’t know if that would have something to do with this map. They always have “close your eyes time” on the news where they put up the score in silence so they don’t ruin the game for you.
