LB Titus Brown Waived, OL Billy Yates Re-Signed Due to Lauvao Injury
Apparantly Shawn Lauvao twisted his ankle Wednesday, so the team needed Billy Yates back for this week. If no one claims Titus Brown, I'd imagine the team would try to re-sign him the following week. I'd take this as a sign that Brown probably would've been inactive Sunday if he had played.

Is this an issue of Mangini burying the lead or that Lauvao is not seriously injured and we just need a little more insurance JIC?

I think it’s just that Lauvao may or may not play so we need another body. In the event that he doesn’t play this week, I would be mightily surprised if he didn’t play next week.
I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.
I hope Lauvao is at least Questionable. He looked pretty good. We deserve a break and if we get Haden, Ward, Lauvao out of this draft, plus some potential development for Colt – will be nice job even if Montario continues with medical issues.

Doesn't give Titus much time to latch....
Oh, wait.

Honestly, I was surprised Brown made the cut to begin with. We have plenty of LB’s and I didn’t really see anything special from him. I would much rather have Yates, a guy who can play C or G than an 11th linebacker.
There can be only one.

This was why I said in the last thread that I’d have put my money on Brown being the cut. Seemed to me that having 7 OL and 11LB was really gambling on the health of the OL.

Because of our versatility it only become a problem if more than one guy goes down.
Obviously, we will face a dropoff if Thomas or Mack go down, but it will only be “sign a guy off the street and pencil him in as the starter” bad if 2+ guys get hurt.

It seems like the guys we have backing up on the OL are about as good as random homeless dudes I could pick up driving down St. Clair. I’m sure mangini and Holmgren know that we need some serviceable OL depth and we need it now, its just a matter of finding guys out there who were cut or are looking at being buried on a depth chart or practice squad. Then you’ve got to convince their agents that there is an opportunity for the guy to develop and get playing time here in cleveland.

You obviously did not see the guys we had playing in the second halves of the preseason games.
They were far worse than Lauvao/Womack/Pashos/St. Clair.
What we need is youth and a starting RT. The depth is about as good as we should get unless we hit the jackpot in the late rounds of the draft (because overpaying for OL depth would mean not getting good value for our cap dollars).

Anybody have interest in Tony Ugoh as a right tackle? How long is his toe injury going to last? I wouldn’t think too long. He might offer some better pass protection.
I would take him in a heartbeat over Yates.
