And with the 6th pick in the draft, Kiper says the Cleveland Browns will select....

I wouldn’t be surprised. Unless the guy is Andre, Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitz (elite prospects), WRs never go in the top 5.
Since 2001, only Calvin Johnson, Charles Rogers, Braylon Edwards, and Larry Fitz have been taken in the top 5. The teams that drafted those players aren’t exactly winning franchises (Browns, Lions, Cards.)
In fairness, the cards did go to the super bowl.

I acknowledged Fitz as an elite prospect, but I would not say the Cards are a great org. They made the Super Bowl after an 8-8 record. Still a good team, but I would say have a long way to go as an org still.
Larry Fitz in my view was a much better prospect than Green coming out of college.

Fitzgerald is probably the most talented WR in the NFL, so this isn’t saying much.
He was a better prospect than [fill in the blank with any wide receiver to be drafted in the past 8 years].

Yes, echoing my point. That only elite WR prospects (Calvin, Fitz, Andre) really should be drafted in the top 5.
It sounded like you were arguing that A.J. Green is not an elite WR prospect.

I don’t necessarily disagree with “on the level of those 3”.
I do believe he is an elite WR prospect.

I understand it is an insider article. However:
WHY would you link a fanshot that is an insider’s article and then NOT at least inform who he has the browns taking. Your words under the link sound quite dickish (though I personally am not that offended). Plus as a couple people pointed out, its not worth paying to read what kiper has to say

Why not someone just block quote the whole thing here?
I would do it, but I don’t have insider.

Picks of note:
Bengals: D’Quan Bowers
Browns: AJ Green
Cowboys: Prince Amukamara
Redskins: Cam Newton
Eagles: Gabe Carimi (For Golan)
Seahawks: Ryan Mallet
Ravens: Brandon Harris
Steelers: Tyron Smith (I think Smith ends up as a top 10 pick)
Tell you the truth, I hope AJ green is gone by the time we pick. I just don’t like spending a top 10 pick on a wide receiver. The new offensive minds have to figure out a way to get more out of our current talent and/or bring in some bargain players they can make productive (like the Broncos did with Brandon Lloyd, patriots did with guys like green-ellis, Deion Branch, Danny Woodhead)
Meanwhile we need an outside pass rusher real bad and another CB would be nice too. I get the feeling that if the browns stayed as a 3-4, you could put Von Miller and Prince Amukamura on the team and all of a sudden we’d have a pretty solid defense.

um… you guys could just watch ESPN during the day.

Why so? Just curious.

this topic has burned thousands upon thousands of words around here (many of which were typed before i can remember your arrival), so i’ll try to be brief and hope not to incite the other side of the aisle…
suffice it to say that where once espn was great in that it covered sports as a journalistic outlet, to me the sizzle has overwhelmed the steak. they’ve veered way to far into the “entertainment” realm … espn’s coverage has become as much a story in and of itself and the stories they are supposed to be covering. that and “around the horn”.

Ok – was just curious to hear your reasons.
I watch occasionally – background noise just to get the latest news in the sports world (Sports Center, etc.), or to watch live sporting events they happen to cover. The “Around the Horn” show sucks. I like Pardon the Interruption and sometimes watch bits of Mike Greenburg and Mike Golic (morning show).

outside of live events they cover (they still do a fantastic job of in-game coverage, i gotta hand it to them), i’ve virtually cut all espn outlets out of my life. no sportscenter, no espnnews, no espn.com, no espn radio. just one of those things where i decided to “vote w/ my consumption”, i guess.

i’d sit through just about anything if it had a mock draft popping up on the bottom of the screen.

and why would we want to waste our valuable time listening to an hour of hacks to get one nugget we want?

Well you could just pay for the insider, but you already bitched about that.
You want Mel Kiper to come to your house?

Why when he could just watch him through the Blu-Ray on his awesome PS3? Oh yes, I did.
If you haven't watched Inception, do it now. Right now.
