2011 NFL Pro Bowl: Official Game Thread for Browns Fans
It is time to get excited for the 2011 NFL Pro Bowl, which takes place at 7:00 PM EST! This is the official game thread that you can use as you witness two members of the Cleveland Browns, Joe Thomas and Alex Mack, block for some of the AFC's most elite players.
A word of caution though: SB Nation lists the Colts' Jeff Saturday as the starting center for the AFC team. Whether that is an assumption by them or a fact will be determined when the game kicks off. It might be accurate, because Mack was originally billed as a second alternate. My guess is that Saturday was the first alternate, and therefore would play first.

They should just air the whole game with the QB’s mic on.

The should air the whole game with everyone’s mic on. Also no censoring. I would actually be watching right now if they did that. Instead I’m watching the Cavs break some records.

Mack looks good chasing down the defenders after the interception. He’s all over the field!

Moon was right, he’s a natural nose tackle.

The AFC team is showing how difficult it is to run an offense shuttling 3 QBs in and out. You’d never see a real pro team doing that now would you?
Oh.
Ooops.
Welcome Joe!

I propose that they give the winners of this game (the respective conference) home field for the Super Bowl. Also play the game around somewhere between week 12 and 14.
This score before even halftime, also just goes to show how the rule changes aren’t helping a damn thing.
The problem with the pro-bowl is, and always has been, a large amount players not giving a f@^#.

Can’t see the Browns/Ravens players trying to hard to get homefield for the steelers…. ditto Bears/ Vikes.
Welcome Joe!
Go Seneca!
I can see the players coming from playoff contending teams (which is where most of the pro-bowlers will be from) trying hard as hell to get home field for the AFC / NFC (possibly them).
Also play the game around somewhere between week 12 and 14.

OK Makes sense if you play it early.
I’m inclined to make it a paper team only and scrap the game if interest declines any more.
Welcome Joe!
Go Seneca!
If we’re willing to scrap the actual game (which I’m not opposed to in its current state), then you’d have to scrap the pointless fan voted “paper teams” too. Essentially, you’d have the Popularity Contest Team and the All-Pro Team.
I still think there’s a lot of potential with the concept of the pro-bowl, we just them to be playing for home field.

the problem with this is the length of the NFL season. the NFL is a shorter season than baseball, basketball, or hockey. You really do need most of the season to judge pro bowl candidates for many positions. Lets say the Pro bowl is played around week 12. that would mean that the ballots would have to be in by week 10-11. By week 9, most of the ballots would be cast. Before week 10, no one was talking about vick as an mvp candidate, let alone a pro bowler. If your idea happens, vick goes from pro bowl starter to maybe not even an appearance in the pro bowl. If we do it this way, a guy like hillis may not make it either.
It sucks that its players not giving a f@^k. However the alternative you suggest would just lead to a ton of pro bowl snubs. For all the problems of the Pro Bowl, the one thing I think they do have going is that more than other sports, they are very good at having few snubs. I mean every year fans can point to players on teams they root for an call “snub” but the numbers of true snubs are much lower than in baseball or basketball (especially basketball). It may be the most boring an meaningless all star game, but it is the most accurate imo of the players deserving to be there

Intensive Purposes? I could care less...
your whole argument is a fallacy!
Why not just leave it at accepted to another echelon….don’t make them play.

That was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Alex Mack is an utter beast. What a great reward to one of the few guys on the field who looked like he cared.

Every single play, Mack was downfield looking for somebody to block, regardless of the fact that most of the other lineman didn’t seem to care about the game. It was really nice to see him get rewarded in such an awesome way.
The best part was how Hester wasn’t even trying to get the ball to Mack but he snagged it out of the air and just took off.
Here is my post about the touchdown; includes a YouTube video of the play, check it out before it gets taken down.

Why would it get taken down? NFL copyrights? There will be new videos of it regardless.

I think we should implement a goalline “Jumbo” package with Hillis, Vickers and Mack in the backfield.
