Game: New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks
Date/Time: Sunday, January 8, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. EST
Local Television: WKYC/NBC, Channel 3 (Cleveland)
Announcers: Mike Mayock & Tom Hammond
The Seahawks are ten point underdogs in this game despite winning the NFC West. The fact is that Seattle is one of the worst teams in postseason history, but it is a whole new season starting now. If Pete Carroll is able to come up with a good gameplan and the experienced Matt Hasselbeck starts rolling, maybe this team that has nothing to lose will come out firing. That's a stretch though, and the Saints should be able to win comfortable. My Pick: Saints win 30-17.
New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts

Game: New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts
Date/Time: Sunday, January 8, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. EST
Local Television: WKYC/NBC, Channel 3 (Cleveland)
Announcers: Al Michaels & Cris Collinsworth
I love watch Peyton Manning, and I love it when he is able to beat an aggressive defense. I have no faith in Mark Sanchez still, so they'll have to rely on their running backs to get the job done. Unfortunately for the Jets, the Colts' run defense has been much better as of late. I hope this game is a tight game throughout so I can be entertained, but I get the feeling that the Jets are going to be one and done in blowout fashion. My Pick: Colts win 27-10.

As far as I’m concerned the football is over til Fall. And so long as The butt-hole of America (thank you Brett Hart), or that thieving city by the ocean doesn’t get a shot at the big one then I am happy.

Now I just like to watch the playoffs to see more teams lose until someone eventually wins the SB. In a strange way, it seems to ease the pain and frustration from our dismal past season. Of course, I am most looking forward to losing efforts by the Ravens and Steelers. The draft will be here before you know it and many people will struggle to even remember who played in the Big Game.
My big postseason hope too……go KC!

Peyton really struggled when his WRs went down this year. Wonder how he would do with the Browns bunch of less than mediocre WRs? Prolly worse than Colt – everyone underestimates the negative impact of not having a home run hitter to loosen up the defense.

He was pretty bad during that stretch. Unfortunately I am too lazy to look up the stats. Collie got hurt, Wayne dinged and he was throwing like 3 picks a game. Seriously.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"
How many picks did Colt throw in his last 2-3 games?
"An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools" -Hemingway
But analyze some of them. One goes right off someone’s hands. The one to MoMass – MoMass ran a complete chit pattern – or ran the slowest go route in the history of the NFL – and didn’t compete for the ball. That is why Eric lauded Colt and hammered the WRs in his exit interview.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"
He will be really really good if we design an offense like NO. Basically he will make the reads so quick we will be sort of unstoppable.

So you are picking out the worst four weeks of Peyton Manning’s career as evidence that he would be worse than Colt with our receivers? Even though his receivers weren’t any better or worse during that stretch than at other times?
"An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools" -Hemingway
He lost Collie in Philly loss and their 3 WR set went down. He really struggled. My point is – that any QB would suck with Browns offense and WR. I realize it is premature to say that Colt is better than Peyton. But I will guarantee you – that if the Browns get a home run hitter like AJ Green to create space for crossing patterns, get an offensive scheme like N.O., he will get the ball out of his hand so quickly and accurately that he will make a Pro Bowl and play in multiple playoff games. I would bet your life on it.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"

realmccoy – please stop trying to compare Colt McCoy to Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning is a Hall of Fame QB and probably one of the top 5 or 10 greatest QBs ever to play the game.
Wait til next year and we’ll see if Colt is the real deal in the NFL. Hopefully he’ll make his mark. Word of advice… you’re going to start making us ‘Texas Browns fans’ look bad.

Pretty fair retort dont you think? They were told they were not good enough to compete by the OSU AD and they went out and beat a team that beat the Buckeyes and went undefeated. The NCAA is a really wretched organization and the deck is stacked against TCU and Boise – and they play really good football. Texas brings in more $$$$, resources than any school in the country and Boise and TCU would have beaten them by more than 40 points. Not happy about it – but it is absolutely true.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"
If Boise and TCU aren’t happy about it they should bust their asses to get into a real conference.
"An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools" -Hemingway
TCU joined the Big East – and they will dominate. Boise has a little tougher sell – they just don’t have any TV sets within a few hundred miles – so they can’t generate to get into a money conference.

I know about TCU, and Boise has enough to join the PAC 10. I mean, there are tons of schools in places without many people in large conferences.

I dunno – have a huge respect for Boise – despite the hideous blue turf. I think they will play anybody anywhere. I remember last year when they just absolutely crushed Oregon. I really think if they could get a shot at the PAC 10 they would have taken it.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"
I think they could play anyone too. but they haven’t done it. They play one or two good teams all year. Even the “bad” teams in most major conferences would beat up on that conference.

First of all, it was the President of the University, not the AD who said that. TCU and Boise do play a weak schedule. TCU ought to be careful, they’ve been in trouble with the NCAA before for corruption. I find it amazing that a school of 9,000 students manages to fill half the rose bowl. I’m not trying to suggest anything – just find it surprising.
I giggled…..but I live in Erie, Pa so I’ve been a long time Joe Pa fan. OSU fans might take it a bit more personally. BTW Erie is cool in the respect we have Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh within about a hundred miles. Makes for a diverse football town.

Have to be honest, not a huge Peyton Manning fan. I realize he is an HOFer – but I hate when he gets compared to Tom Brady – there just is no comparison whatsoever. Tom Brady doesn’t throw big picks, he plays in lousy weather, and most of the time he did not have the weapons at WR that Peyton had.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"
Probably not fair to compare anyone to Tom Brady.
But bottom line is Manning will go down as of the all time greats. What do you have against Manning?

Do you have any stats to back up your interception assertion?
Maybe Peyton made those WRs great, not the other way around. Maybe Peyton made Wayne and Harrison what they were. I mean, who the hell is Pierre Garcon? Tom Brady also had his share of decent receivers, don’t act like he did it with scrubs.
As far as the weather argument goes, BB will be happy to explain to you that there are two game per year max where there is bad weather.
Peyton also never had a defense, and those Patriot defenses are what carried the team for the first half of this decade, when they were winning super bowls. You’ll notice that even though Brady has really stepped up the last few years, they haven’t won a super bowl, and that’s because their defense isn’t as good. Give Peyton those NE defenses of the early 2000s and he’s got 3 rings too.
Bottom line for me is this: NE was able to plug in a guy who hadn’t started since high school and he put up ridiculous numbers. That offense is great, and so is Brady, but that team survives without him. Peyton Manning is the Colts.

I think you get irritated easily. And chafe easily, from the sounds of it.
They’re both in the discussion for top 5 QB of all time. Manning will own every single passing record in the book by 2014-2015. Oh, and he’s going to break Favre’s consecutive game streak if he plays long enough. I think the “right” answer is that you’d want either one of them on your team.

I do put more weight on playoff performance. I agree they are comparable in the regular season – and I also agree that Peyton Manning will probably own all the passing records by the time he retires. But I do believe strongly in these 2 things:
1. Brady is a significantly better playoff QB, and that should be enough to keep them from being mentioned in the same breath.
2. Brady could go into the Hoosier dome and light it up while Peytons sphincter would pucker up in the winter playoff games.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"
How about:
Montana
Brady
Manning

You may believe those things, but they aren’t backed up by anything.
Tom Brady has fewer fourth quarter comebacks and game winning drives than Manning, and it’s not even close. That tells me who is better in the clutch.
Their playoff stats are almost exactly identical. Manning has four more picks, but what stands out to me is Brady’s terrible YPA of 6.45. Peyton’s is 7.5. Their QB ratings are almost exactly the same.

Tom Brady has three career 4000 yard seasons. Peyton has two seasons, including his rookie year, under 4000.
Brady has completed over 65% of his passes 3 times. Peyton has been over 65% every year since 2002.
The two are mostly comparable other than that, even having the exact same TD% for their careers. But Brady’s averages are all buoyed by his incredible 2007 season. Peyton Manning is consistently excellent. Brady is consistently lucky to play for Bill Bellichick.

I’d say the overall feeling I have is that it is stupid for anyone to try and argue that Peyton Manning isn’t great. He’s shown time and time again that he is. what exactly does the playoff record do to diminish how great he is? he wasn’t the one responsible for losing all of those games.
by your rationale, Dan Marino sucked.
OT: I wonder how the interview with Mularkey went. I’m starting to think he’s the right choice. He had a winning season in Buffalo, he’ll run the ball (not literally), and he’s good with QBs. Hopefully there isn’t too big a difference in philosophy for him and Big Mike.

Maybe this is just something that I have focused on, perhaps due to the number of times the Browns were burned by it, but it seems like there are a lot of successful pass plays with a cross/slant receiver route that suddenly turns upfield at the end. By which I mean, appears designed to turn upfileld as part of the route, vs. a player just catching and running upfield. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I have seen a lot of these plays over the middle this season, and I’m wondering if they have some advantage against the in-vogue coverage schemes.
Loved the SEA-NO games…I am currently living in the greater Seattle area, so it was nice to have a game that was watchable and even, dare I say it, enjoyable(!) out of the blue and neon green. Hasselback looked like a man on a mission.
It’s too bad about Bray-bray accidentally catching the ball; I’m sure he’ll dig deep, shake it off, and find a way to drop a crucial one next week. He’s made for the Big City and Bright Lights, after all. Maybe he forgot to put his War Cologne on?
