Injury Notes at the Browns' Monday Practice - Haden Still Out
Several media outlets are reporting on the injury status of certain members of the Cleveland Browns roster. Here is a summary digest of what has been revealed from Monday's practice [ABJ, Plain Dealer].
- WR Mohamed Massaquoi participated fully in practice, so it looks like he won't be held back from the shoulder injury he sustained against the Titans. WR Joshua Cribbs did not take part in team drills (sprained knee), but was involved in the individual drills. Cribbs needs to be at full strength in order for him to be the dynamic player he's shown to be capable of being.
- C Alex Mack (appendix) was on the sideline with no helmet or pads. If he is going to play against the Raiders, I don't anticipate him having much practice time leading up to the game. Steve Vallos continued taking reps with the first team in place of him, and John Greco continued working with the second team.
- LB Titus Brown (ankle) did warmups with the team but did not take part in practice. I thought it sounded like he was close to returning before the bye week, so I wonder if there has been any setback for Brown.
- CB Joe Haden did not practice as he continues to nurse a sprained knee, which has a brace on it. Nickelback Dimitri Patterson was taking reps with the first-team defense in place of him.
The entire practice session was reportedly open to the media, so I assume that everyone else was healthy enough to practice, perhaps including safety Eric Hagg.

Certainly hope Mack, Haden, and Cribbs get better in time for the Raiders game. Any new information concerning the Hillis drama? I just read an article that says Hillis doesn’t think he has a future in Cleveland. I for one would like to see him stay, but I worry that comments to the media like that are in no way going to help his cause. Sure would be nice to know what exactly is going on, at some point this mess is going to spill over onto the rest of the team.
It’s really pathetic how blown out of proportion this “story” has gotten.

Hillis said, “i could’ve played, but my agent said no”

He said his agent advised against it. The browns won so whats the deal? The dude was sick. Fact. He lost 10 freaking pounds in 1 week. Fact. I agree with the decision to sit. If your not 100% in this league, especially with the kind of pounding he takes week in and out, then you increase your chance for injury exponentially. If Hillis plays known being sick and has a season ending injury how many people call it stupid to have played?
…besides, he (anyone) could have a season ending injury at any point of the season.

Like I said, when not 100% you increase your risk of injury exponentially. The biggest case of this known is the Eagles making TO sign a waiver to play in the Superbowl.
Also, Hillis said he probably could have played, then follows that with later with “But he is my agent and he does help me out and I think we made the right choice, because I was definitely not healthy enough to play.”
That’s funny because in the fan shot by Ville I’m pretty sure he said he wouldn’t have played either way.

That’s just another reporter spewing crap, same stuff all over again & still the same stuff being taken out of context. I’d be willing to bet it has more to do with years & not $$$, Hillis probably wants 5,6,7 years but the Browns may not want to go more than say 3,4 at most. I could be wrong but I seriously doubt he’s asking for CJ2K $$$.

Wow would it be nice to have Titus Brown playing this Sunday.

This sucks for a lot of reasons, but the most important one is that Benard strikes me as a really good guy.

Browns need to ban motorcycles.

If he does have a “no motorcycle” clause in his contract, he should be let go, he’s hurting the team.

The guys not even getting many snaps but he’s a good player who needed to be used more to keep Sheard fresh. No way we should let him go, but sucks he’s going to be gone for awhile.

2 tackles and a 1/2 a sack, in 4 games. I don’t think we’d miss him too much. Besides, if he has a clause in his contract, and didn’t respect it, he should be home. Don’t you remember KW2? HE WAS NEVER WHAT HE COULD’VE BEEN AFTER THE MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT!
by athensdawg on Oct 10, 2011 6:54 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
He didn’t play a single down in one game and very few in all the others. It has been noted, though widely ignored that Sheard has taken an extremely high percentage of snaps, not even counting the fact that he’s a rookie.
Well, that should tell us something, beaten out by a rookie. Bernard has been LB in a 3-4, and did great. Do you think he’s having trouble going back to DE? It may take him awhile to het back to being comfy at DE, but now he won’t get that chance for awhile, because of a boneheaded decision.

That was also more than a motorcycle accident, it was stupidly trying to mimic professional stuntspeople in a parking lot.

Wasn’t there an issue with him puting on some weight when Heckert/Shurmer didnt feel like he had to. So he started behind the 8-ball in an already shorter preseason behind where he should be. IMO its almost like a rookie again adjusting to the NFL and they brought in their own guy to do that so he has to really stand out to be effective. he has made a decent amount of plays in very limited exposure, and if Sheard goes down-after Bernard gets healthy- I would expect him to put up some better stats playing more full time like last year.
Talent is talent. Its not like Benard got sacks created by the scheme. He got to the QB. Plus, he did get a sack this year in a 4-3 in the limited amount of playing time he has gotten.

your whole argument is a fallacy!
all the above news is okay by me.
Shurrrmmrrr seems to be cautious, taking time when ti comes to injuries.
with our december-heavry schedule (and weaker schedule in general), it will be important to have guys back to full health/potential.
