Rickert: Browns Sign RB Chris Ogbonnaya
As perhaps a sign of things to come this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, the Cleveland Browns have signed running back Chris Ogbonnaya, according to J.R. Rickert, Ogbonnaya's agent. He was released last week by the Houston Texans to make room for a couple of new players.
There's no word yet on who the Browns waived to make room for Ogbonnaya, who had 3 carries for 6 yards this year. In 2009, he had 11 carries for 50 yards and 1 catch for 19 yards as a member of the St. Louis Rams (hello, Pat Shurmur affiliation). He was a seventh-round draft choice by the Rams that year.

My brother texted me about he heard a rumor of Dallas offering one of their RB’s and a pick for Hillis earlier today. I couldn’t find anything on the internet about it and don’t know if it is a legit rumor at all. Anyone hear this?
I have no problem with that.

I just read a rumor about choice being on the trading block for Dallas and that they have had some calls for him.The article didn’t say anything bout Hillis though.

Would rather read about Peyton signing a long term deal with the Browns. Still holding out hope.

there’s an article on NFL.com with some guys doing the “trades that would be cool to see” article.
hillis to Dallas was one of them.

It never occurred to me before, but now it kinda makes sense that the FO didn’t already have Hillis signed to a bigger contract. Not saying that they wanted to trade him, but by not redoing his contract to something less attractive to other teams until after the trade deadline they at least leave an option on the table.

I think that they have always viewed Hardesty as the better RB.
Granted Hillis’ breakout season came after Hardesty was drafted, but Hardesty was going to be the starter last season before he hurt his knee.
by Bernie19Kosar on Oct 18, 2011 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions
If they think Hardesty is better right now, then I question their competence. Maybe in the long run, but a guy coming off a major knee surgery? That’s ridiculous.

This seems like a pretty insignificant pick up to me. Obviously boot camp did some damage to my football senses because I still expect Peyton Hillis to dominate this season. Apparently he got bit by the Madden Curse, huh? 2-4 isn’t far from my expectations, but when a team like Cincinnati is 4-2 I’m shocked we are the same or better than them.

Obligatory he played with Colt McCoy at Texas post. Ogbonnaya is a really smart dude, if the NFL doesn’t pan out I heard he’s going to law school.
That’s cool I guess. Heckert seems to want educated players on his team. Moore, Smith, Marecic…

This must mean Hillis’s hamstring injury could keep him out for a few weeks . Needed depth. My guess, anyway.
What does that MEAN - TO PLAY US OUT?!!?!?
Agree with you. I think the MRI did not go well. BTW – OB is a former Longhorn and is a Brandon Jackson look alike. Solid pass catcher – not an electric runner – will pick up blitz.does not have speed of Armond. Class lockerroom guy.

Longhorn fan here.
What you’re getting is a guy with Alright speed, sticky hands out of the backfield and a great blocker.
If you go back and watch some of Chris O’s highlights from his senior year in college, he has a knack for making extra yardage after first contact. He’s a great team player and obviously has a very good relationship with Colt. He was always Colt’s Check down guy on 3rd down.
Manny Diaz will take your lunch...and eat it too...
He was always Colt’s Check down guy on 3rd down.
We definitely need one of those. Hope he was most effective in third and long situations.

Any chance this dude competes with Hardesty for playing time? Hardesty has been less than impressive to me when he’s been on the field.
Hardesty has been running great. His catching leaves a lot to be desired, so maybe this guy comes in on third down.
