Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Mfb_northtexas09_ag00878

My really early draft wishlist.
RB Trent Richardson
ILB Luke Kuechly
QB Nick Foles
WR Jordan White

And...we have to sign a veteran wide receiver. Keep in mind...this is just my opening thoughts on the subject.

foles in the second? he has the measurables, been a starter at a major college program for three years, 6’5"-240lbs., completion % over 60% all three years(actually69.1% this year). but i don’t know what kind of offense they run at arizona and according to espn he has negative running yards, not mobile?

by athensdawg on Dec 23, 2011 2:05 PM EST reply actions

He’s not especially mobile, but they count sacks against QBs’ rushing yards in college. Foles has prototypical size and a good arm.

Sounds like he gets sacked a lot.

by HenryDawg on Dec 23, 2011 11:57 PM EST up reply actions

If you are not a running QB and you get sacked once in 13,000,000,000,000,000 attempts in college, you could have negative rushing yards.

Not the stat you put a lot of stock into when evaluating a guy. Sack rate, ANY/A, something like that would be much more valuable.

is barrett jones going to go in the first round?

by athensdawg on Dec 23, 2011 2:21 PM EST reply actions

nope, he’s staying at bama, bummer.

by athensdawg on Dec 23, 2011 2:24 PM EST reply actions

if we somehow end up winning our last two games, who would you consider drafting at the qb position?

by athensdawg on Dec 23, 2011 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

If we end up winning our last two games, we won’t have a shot at a QB unless we trade up.

by Bernie19Kosar on Dec 23, 2011 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

I think you’re looking too much in to the mock drafts. They’ve brainwashed you in to thinking that Richardson is the right pick.

by Brownie's Year on Dec 23, 2011 5:57 PM EST reply actions

So I was thinking about Trent Richardson, and realized, when was the last time that a Stud Running Back helped a team win the Super Bowl?

2011 – GB – Running back in the playoffs was Starks, who didn’t show up until just at the playoffs, and wasn’t really the force in the SB
2010 – NO – again not really a Stud RB team (Reggie is not really one, nor can you say Pierre Thomas is one)
2009 – PITs – wasn’t a stud RB that got them the win (Fast Willy, don’t think so)
2008 – NYG – Don’t see this as a Stud RB winning it for them at all (Brandon Jacob is not a stud)
2007 – IND – Um RB? they have one? (Addai is not a Stud RB)
2006 – PIT – Okay we can make the Argument that Bettis is a Solid RB, not sure if a true Stud RB – but he is the closest I’ve gotten to right now
2005 – NE – No stud RB here (Dillion was on his last legs)
2004 – NE – Not a stud RB here
2003 – TB – Michael Pittman – not a Stud RB
2002 – NE – not a stud RB here
2001 – BAL – Jamal Lewis – Here is a stud RB, but really this was the Defense winning it
2000 – StL – Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk…. Here we’ve got a Stud Running… Probably the Stud. But also Warner.

So over the last 13 Super Bowls we have:
1 – HOF RB (Faulk)
1 – Stud RB (Jamal Lewis)
2 – Solid RB (Jerome Bettis)

So why would we draft Trent Richardson? It doesn’t appear that a Stud RB wins Super Bowls over the last decade.

A Stud RB wins Fantasy Football, but doesn’t seem to get you the big prize in real life.

So I do not see the reason to draft a RB early in NFL Draft, it doesn’t do much for you team in reality.

I think I’ll re-post this as a Fan post- so it gets more views, and can generate its own discussion.

I made a comment on this exact thing a few weeks back. Same exact list but included SB losers as well. No need for fan post.

By the 06 SB Bettis was more of a 3rd and short/goal line back than a featured stud.

Dawgs by Nature -- where Montario Hardesty, apparently, 'did some good things'.

Good point – Fanpost of this made – add that to the discussion I’ve started.

I see your point. Never thought of it that way. Trent is a weapon that wouldn’t hurt though. So, are you saying draft quarterback with the first pick then? If not…what is your call???

Its going to depend on who is there at our pick…. I’ll post some thoughts on that once the final draft order is determined and who all comes out. I really like RGIII though.

If I read another mock draft that has us taking Richardson at the fourth spot I’ll lose all faith in national sports writers having any common sense.

by HenryDawg on Dec 24, 2011 12:00 AM EST reply actions

Lose faith. They’re still doing it.

Are you that sold on Hillis? Don’t get me wrong…I love the guy too, but his off the field issues and the simple fact that he cannot stay healthy for the entire season concern me. Even if we decide to keep Hillis, what is wrong with another weapon in the backfield? It has been too long since we had a powerful one-two punch in the backfield. Have we forgotten that we play in the AFC Central??? You need a very very good backfield to compete.

Plus…drafting Foles in the second will give McCoy someone to compete against this next year. I don’t know…just thinking out loud.

But, I am also leaning towards the prospect of drafting RG3. The more I watch film on this guy…the more I like him. I am so “up in the air” on our first pick.

being sold on hillis does not meen we NEED to get a RB in the top 5. check out the link TLP posted in another thread, or go to mocking the draft (which is a SBN site). most elite RBs and pro bowlers aren’t first rounders.

You need a very very good backfield to compete.

mendenhall is average and Cedric Benson sucks hard. The only team with a very very good backfield in terms of RBs is the Ravens.

I really like RG3 two and Foles is nice, but the success rate of QBs outside of the first is not good.

AFC Central? They changed the divisions again?

Jordan White is the WR from Western Michigan. This dude is a gamer. Led all of college football in receptions, yards and touchdowns. Love him. Had a great Bowl game yesterday.

I watched what I could find on him and he could be a really nice pickup in the 3rd. With good workouts though he could slip to the 2nd so lets root for a subpar 40
