Receiver Solution

Amidst drop after drop, poor routes, and lack of separation, it's easy to see why the Browns are absolutely the most boring thing to watch. Not to mention letting Ray Rice run all over us as if he was able to just stand on an airport conveyor belt. Currently, (before Monday Night game between San Diego and Jacksonville) we are tied for the fifth pick in the draft. We would LOVE to get Blackmon but with the teams tied or worse than the Browns record wise, the Panthers, Dolphins, Redskins, Vikings, Jaguars, Rams AND Buccaneers are all teams who could possibly take Blackmon in front of us. Here's my solution.

Star-divide

I'm probably not the first with this idea, but did anybody see highlights if the Thursday night game(Philadelphia and Seattle?) We have Holmgren, Heckert and Shurmur, ALL linked to Philly in some way. Shurmur was the Quarterback coach until '09. Heckert was their GM from '06 to '09. And Andy Reid was under Holmgren in the '90s with the Packers. Now with all this knowledge, I can tell you what I'm thinking.

We trade for Desean Jackson.

Before you freak out, YES he is a "Diva" but we pay him, he shuts up and produces. Combine him with a Nick Toon or Mohamed Sanu, and Little, we got a quick, easy and most likely a lasting fix. Take Trent Richardson with our first pick, get Jackson with our worsening Falcons pick(Yes they lost Sunday but are still 7-5,) we have a brand new team.

Do I know if the Eagles are willing? No but as they get worse, and as they don't pay Jackson the likelihood of the Eagles going in different directions increase. I really think they don't want to pay him and we can afford to(I think) and we need receivers who can get open.

Also note that if we DO take Blackmon, this ALL goes out the window. Again, IF he's even available.

First of all you can’t be “tied” for a draft pick. Also, there is no way I would give a first rounder for Jackson. The way he is acting now is the entire reason he was drafted in the second round in the first place. He’s always had a bad attitude.

By tied I mean we have the same record now, and I have no idea how they decide the order come April for teams with the same record.

Strength of schedule and no way would I give a #1 for him. We don’t have a QB with the arm to utilize his speed anyway.

No thanks.

This isn’t the NBA, late 1st round picks can still get you a great player.

We trade for Desean Jackson.

Dude, he is a free agent at the end of the year. We are not trading for him.

Didn’t know that but that fact pretty much screws all of this lol.

The solution is Blackmon. But that isn’t going down.

/End thread.

So the solution he picked is untenable, and the solution you picked isnt likely…..and that ends the thread?

Not that another coaching change is desirable, but I’d rather take Andy Reid if he becomes available than Desean Jackson.

For WR’s, how about Brandon Lloyd?
Robert Meachem?
Pierre Garcon?
Deion Branch?

All available FA’s in the summer. I’m assuming we don’t have a chance at guys like Wes Welker, Dwayne Bowe, Vincent Jackson, etc.

Branch is getting old, but I’d take him if only to teach our current WRs how to catch a ball.

Yeah, but I think there’s still some gas left in the Branchmobile. The mentoring could be a big plus…

How about V-Jax? I don’t give a rat’s behind that he can’t get along with the ownership at SD.

by shep615 on Dec 9, 2011 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

Garcon is thoroughly average, not much of an upgrade on our current receivers. (Honestly, i’d take Greg Little’s potential over Garcon) Branch was useless in Seattle before going back to the Pats.

Meachem and Lloyd, however, both have some upside. Lloyd has shown he can produce even in a weak offense, and Meachem likely struggles from the Saints “lottery” of pass production. When he’s featured, he’s been a very good receiver. (I’m thinking of the last 4 games of 200(9?) when he caught TD’s in 4 straight games…..in his second year. Young kid, too.

garcon is so far and away better than our existing receivers that it’s ridiculous.

are you on the drugs? you don’t think that pierre garcon would be the best receiver on the browns today by approximately 12,000 units of better-ness??

Yeah, more dropped passes and disappointment!

As bad as Garcon may be and as bad as the Colt’s are, he’s way ahead of any of our receivers.

Mangini apologist by default.

I’m speaking about his innate accuracy, not how well that innate accuracy is translating on the field.

As a general rule, FA WRs just dont produce. When has a WR ever gone to a team via FA and made a big impact on that team? he’ll be a bust before you know it.

Garcon is exactly the type of FA this FO would get. I think he could help. I don’t want to bring in any high priced saviors anyway.

by HenryDawg on Dec 10, 2011 12:36 AM EST up reply actions

I’d love a “high priced savior” as long as we’re talking about free agents. Not uh- nevermind.

I think Dwayne Bowe would be a great pickup.

I worry about his attitude. Seems to clash with the coaching staff a lot in KC. But that could be because Haley seems like an a-hole.

by Bernie19Kosar on Dec 11, 2011 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

When Haley speaks, it grates my nerves. I couldn’t play for that guy, not that he’s asking. Plus, who gives Thomas Jones more carries than Jamaal Charles last year? That’s like giving Hardesty more carries than Hillis except more stupid.
