Ask a Steelers Fan

Hey Browns fans. We've got a short week set up for our prime time Thursday night game. So, this is going up earlier than we usually post these. I can answer any questions you have about the Steelers and I am sure other guys from BTSC will help me out. Lets try to keep it as civil as we possibly can.

If one of you has some time, maybe you can fly over to BTSC and put up something similar.

Ask away.

This is a fan-created post. Dawgs By Nature assumes no responsibility for the content listed.

It’s really easy to do. Pick a subject matter you want to know more about. Put the words in an inquisitive manner. Place a question mark at the end of those words (the sentence).

Give us this day, a stellar D and forgive us our bogus fines, as we (sorta) forgive Goodell who trespasses against us. And lead us not into defeat, but deliver us a Victory. Maybe if you knew my story youd understand

Where I am from, my hometown colors are black and yellow. Hence when picking up my first copy of Madden, I naturally go for the team that shares the same colors. Happened to be the Steelers. (I got ripped a new one for calling them black and yellow though)

I stick with Pittsburgh for most sports things now. Even follow Pittsburgh in College Football.

I am sorry that no town in my country is stupid enough to use Brown, Orange, White or whatever the hell your Brownie uniforms are as their team colors

Ben has been sacked a lot this year. Is that do to poor OL play or is he just fat and slow?

by Brownie's Year on Dec 6, 2011 3:03 PM EST reply actions

70% offensive line, 29% Ben holds the ball too long, 1% fat and slow

by worldtrip on Dec 6, 2011 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

Nothing out of the ordinary. Ben holds the ball longer than he should, but in turn this leads to more completions and also more sacks. Everyone and their mother knows about that. However all the injuries along the O-line (again it happens every year) has also been a contributing factor. Also the left guard Chris Kemoeatu has been playing abysmally which resulted in him being removed from the starting position in favor of Doug Legursky. This would have worked out somewhat, but then starting right guard Ramon Foster suffered an ankle injury. So in comes Trai Essex. Needless to say no one has been screaming for him to play in the slightest.

Honestly it’s just another day at the office for Pittsburgh. We haven’t had a decent guard since Faneca left, Pouncey can’t do it all himself, and Max Starks hasn’t been horrible but no one will confuse him for Joe Thomas. The RT rookie Gilbert has been a relatively nice surprise though.

Since there isn’t one of these over at BTSC I’ll ask a few questions of you guys.

What is the likelihood that Peyton Hillis is a Brown after this season? (I’m guessing a “no” consensus but I’d like the DBNs opinion.)

Is Greg Little showing any signs of someday becoming a true #1 receiver?

How have our Pitt boys Jabaal Sheard and Jason Pinkston been playing?

How has Owen Marecic doing? Has he been making anyone forget about Vickers?

I think things will be fine if he just plays hard the rest of this season and avoids anymore distractions. If so, Holmgren will sign him.

Is Greg Little showing any signs of someday becoming a true #1 receiver?

I don’t think he’ll be a #1, but he’ll be around for a lot of years as a solid #2.

How have our Pitt boys Jabaal Sheard and Jason Pinkston been playing?

Sheard has been impressive and gives much hope for the future; Pinkston was put in a tough spot when Steinbach went down, but has been slowly improving.

Very insightful comment.

Yes Pittsburgh did indeed get embarrassed in week 1. I can think of nothing to say in defense of them for that performance. It was not a pretty game.

In the second game at least there was some real competition. Torrey Smith may just be the thing the Ravens have needed all these years to finally get the Steeler monkey off their backs. The only hope for us is that Cortez Allen and Keenen Lewis are improving enough that Pittsburgh will have enough quality corners to counter the Baltimore air attack.

I haven’t seen many Browns games this season so by a purely statistical standpoint McCoy seems to have improved minimally. However stats can only tell part of the story. What do you think? Has McCoy improved enough to have the Browns consider him the QB of the future or should the team be looking towards drafting another quarterback with an early pick?

As someone who is both a Browns fan and a Lakers fan, I must note that being a Browns fan gives me strength and makes me appreciate the Lakers. I was born into both fandoms — I grew up in LA in the 80s, and it wasn’t a bandwagon thing, it was the local team (the Clippers hadn’t even gotten there when I started watching the Lakers). I just got lucky.

Not all fans of good, dynastic teams are “bandwagon jumping, spineless” front-runners. And, speaking as a Lakers fan, I can say that we’ve had some tough times. In fact, on two separate occasions since I began watching them in the 80s, the Lakers have missed the playoffs entirely! Twice! Dark days, my friend. I love, love, love LA drivers. Fast and “defensively aggressive,” meaning they see a tight spot to merge into, they signal, and they do it. Everyone knows this is the way it works. Like Minneapolis drivers.

Milwaukee – drive at least 5mph below the 55 speed limit, and when changing lanes, put your signal on and keep nervously looking into the lane waiting for a 3 car length spot. And the person you merge in front of taps their brakes the whole time. Sigh.

Is this a joke? The Lakers are historically known for having the best drafts of any professional franchise. We drafted Magic, Worthy, and basically that entire team except Kareem. We drafted Kobe in a great trade for both teams (it was). That trade was for Vlade — another ridiculously good draft pick (last guy taken in the first round). Sasha Vujacic (taken at the end of the first) is another great pick. Marc Gasol — another steal. Also, Elden Campbell, another great pick. Derek Fisher.

Memphis got Marc Gasol (arguably as good as Pau) and two first round draft picks, plus Kwame’s ridiculous expiring contract for Pau — it was a pretty damn good deal for Memphis.

I tried that but couldn’t do it. I grew up a New Jersey Devils fan, inherited from my father. (He liked them because ) He was a hockey player himself, born and raised in Cleveland, went to Bay High School, played goalie on a state runner-up team (forget the exact year). Needless to say, I loved hockey as a kid and went to a ton of Toledo Storm games. Again, rooting for the Devils at the time, I remember the Game 7 of the 2003 Stanley Cup as one of my more fond sports memories. To celebrate, we actually went to Denny’s that night, which was a big deal because my brother and I had school the next day. It was awesome though.

As I got older, I learned to despised front runners, as any non-front running sports fan would. My cousin arbitrarily liked Duke. I gave him crap about front running all the time. One time he mentioned how I had no real ties to New Jersey and I realized I didn’t, at least not like Cleveland. When I made tried to make the switch to the Blue Jackets, it just didn’t feel right at all. Then I tried going back to rooting for the Devils but that did’t feel right either. Eventually, I just stopped following the sport all together. My brother still follows the Devils very closely, never stopped. As I fan of the sport, I miss rooting for a team. I love Olympic hockey, I think it’s the best event they have. Something about jumping around teams just never sat right with me, so I’ve been all Cleveland and OSU since.

oooo, good question.
IMHO I think there are pros and cons to the new alignment. As a Sharks fan, we lost Dallas as a division rival. I don’t like that. But there will be multiple new teams to start hatred with. The playoffs will be a mess. You have conferences with 8 teams and 7 teams. The East conferences are the ones with 7 teams each. Of course with less teams it’s easier to make the playoffs because it’s no longer a East-West point total. It’s a conference point total. Top two teams in each conf. makes the playoffs. If a team in Conf A is in second in their Conf but a team in Conf B has way more points and doesn’t get in, is a farce. On a playoff stance it won’t stand. There will be changes.

by Brownie's Year on Dec 7, 2011 8:29 PM EST up reply actions

I really think they should get rid of the unbalanced schedule, but until they do I’m ok with this. The playoff system is pretty stupid, but as long as they insist on unbalanced schedules, I’m happy the jackets aren’t flying to the west coast as often.

In the end, I don’t think it solves many problems, but it’s a little better than before.

A great many Steeler fans are Pirate fans as well, including myself, but my interest in baseball is miniscule compared to football. I would be lying if I said the success of my respective favorite teams didn’t play a part in that, but I also just like football a lot more, always have, even when the Pirates were good.

The financial structure of MLB is completely unfair, and they appear to have no interest in changing it.

Still, Steelers were always the priority.

Yeah he was something else.

Nevertheless, it’s unfortunate that the economics of baseball, along with obviously a poorly run franchise, have left me with no team to have any optimism for.

At least in football the Browns have a level playing field. Now you just need Holmgren to keep doing good things. The Browns have a heck of a young defense. I go to a bar every Sunday where in live that is a Browns bar because I am good friends with a number of those guys. I see all your teams games. The team is getting better. The key is whether or not Colt is the guy.

by worldtrip on Dec 7, 2011 9:24 AM EST up reply actions

From what I've seen from Colt

he is the guy, but he has NO support. No receivers, no real threat of a running game…If Tom Brady was drafted by this offense, he would have been out of the NFL 9 years ago.

I don’t know. His lack of arm strength limits the plays they can run Lots of short crossing patterns that nearly gets the guys killed a lot of times, and dump off passes to the backs and tight ends. On the upside he is very accurate.

But

Isn’t it true that arm strength isn’t as important in west coast offenses? Jeff Garcia was pretty damn good during his career (but for some reason never got credit for it anywhere).
But there are other examples of QB’s without a strong arm running the WC to perfection right? (Joe Montana?)

International fans play by a fairly different set of rules in my opinion. Their fandom should have no proximity restrictions, but I do tend agree that their should be an acceptable and personal connection to any team you root for if.

I would never say that you ‘ought’ to root for a certain team because you are close to them geographically or are from there because that is up to the fan. I do agree, however, if you are not able to justify your fandom of a perennially successful team reasonably it absolutely reveals something of your character. Finding validation in rooting for a winning team just because they are a winning team is pathetic in my opinion.

It is NEVER a boring match-up.

This is the AFC North. Toughest division in the NFL. Not a single team plays anything but old-school football, especially against each other. What is not to love about that? If you ever wondered why our teams and their respective fanbases loathe the mere mention of the other; you only have to look at what the rivalry has been and will always be. We hate you… but we wouldn’t want to see you in any other division. Watch some of the games from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. If that doesn’t make you appreciate what the Steelers/Browns rivalry is today, I don’t know what will.

I look forward to every game we play and view every one as a challenge same as you.

its all good when its a Steeler player getting knocked out, but not a Browns player? Your morality is so fucked. If you are a fan who cares about player safety and wanted those types of devastating H2H hits eliminated it shouldn’t matter what player or what team is involved.

I did not say that I would cheer. If it were any other team, even the Ravens, I would have at least some semblance of concern and outrage, and I would hope that the Browns are penalized for breaking the rules, even against the Steelers. However, the past conduct of the Steelers and their fans make it impossible to feel any sympathy or outrage over such a hit occurring to a Steelers player because the Steelers have been dishing it out with such frequency and lack of concern for the rules for so long, generally without much significant consequence.

I’d also like the see where he ranked in the AFCN last year… If you don’t mind, seeing how Pouncey is having a “down year” with his guards being changed around for most of the season.

I’ll still take Pouncey’s upside over most of the other centers in the AFCN. Also factor in that Pouncey plays with a worst OL than than the Brown’s, Bengals, or Ravens arguably. Plus Pouncey being on this team makes them better, it becomes very noticeable when he is not in the game.

This is stupid. C is an independent position. If pouncey is getting manhandled one on one against NT’s, which is something he had a problem with in college, it has nothing to do with those around him.

Pouncey may be better than Birk 5 years down the line, but right NOW, they’re at opposite ends of center rankings. And lineman have long shelf lives so Pouncey will be at the bottom for years to come.

Dude. No ones blocks Ngata one on one. Your an idiot if you think different.

Its also critical to have good guards doing their assignment right and/or double teaming when they have to. If the guards can’t do that then the center play goes down as well. Steelers probably have the worst guard combo in the AFCN, its no coincidence.

In depth analysis? Again..they gave a negative rating to Taylor for shutting down the best receiver in the NFL. You can not trust their "stats’ on positions that don’t have them. It is their opinion. But I understand why you’d use them, it’s gotta feel good to say “see we at least have one good player”

Pouncey is the best C in the AFC north, not having the kind of season he did his rookie year but he has had rotating poor guard play on both sides. Mack is a close second, but he lacks the athleticism Pouncey has, & none of the other C in the AFC north are as agile or block in the 2nd level anywhere near as well.

Look at their ages as well, Pouncey won’t even hit his prime for 3-4 more years, by then Mack will be hitting 30 lol.

Pouncey dominated Cody in college & did again last year in the playoffs, drawing a holding penalty on the goal line. We’ll all get to watch tomorrow night as Pouncey deals with Taylor & Mack tries handling the Big Snack, we’ll see who is talking shit when the dust settles.

Oh yea, is the contract you give the refs all guaranteed, or is it incentive laden? I imagine the Rooney family paid a crap load after superbowl XL if there were incentives.

Contract is a standard $5000 per flag thrown, even if resulting in a non call. Added incentives for calls that directly affect the outcome of games.

The ref who did not call a push off against Torrey Smith has been fired. We are working on a suitable replacement.

I actually can believe this. Especially in the worst superbowl ever (Pitt – Seattle). I was embarassed for all the fans there at the bar. Even had Steeler fans apologizing for a rip off. (Watched the game in North Texas) I like the style of the AFCN game, but to resort to stealing a game by the refs, it made me lose faith, and showed the NFL isnt far behind the NBA.

I think this is incredibly naive. The NBA kept it under wraps for years and it’s pretty amazing it came out at all. They still maintain that only one ref was doing it. Other sports have been rigged. Boxing has been a joke for years.

He doesn’t have to make ridiculous calls. It’s as easy as calling holding against one team while letting the other team get away with a little more. Or being a little more strict about pass interference on a few important plays. There are a lot of judgement calls in the NFL. All it takes is for all the close calls to go one way. It wouldn’t be obvious or difficult.

1. I said I was not commenting on the super bowl at all, but that I think it is possible that some NFL refs are crooked.
2. You disagreed.
3. I gave you my reasons.
4. You started talking about the super bowl for some reason, which I was not talking about whatsoever, and accused me of not agreeing with those calls, which I never said.
5. I pointed out that I never disagreed with those calls.
6. You said you weren’t talking to me, just people in general.
7. I quoted you the part where you were talking to me.

I can repeat step 5 if you want, but I’m not sure what good it will do.

Sorry that I might have got you confused with other posters on this subject. Which I still don’t think I got my answer from but oh well.

Ok so you think NFL refs are crooked? I’m not exactly sure but has a ref ever got caught for being crooked in the NFL? I still find it hard to believe that everyone involve kept it hush hush. And see how long the NFL has been in existence there has been a lot of games and to keep the vast majority of the games that were fixed would be nearly impossible.

But believing games are fixed takes the fun out of watching the games doesn’t it?

funny how that works out. Even if Pitt has picked up some bandwagon fans over the years, who gives a shit? Im not bandwagon fan, and the Steelers already sell more merchandise than any other franchise, with more bandwagon fans incoming thats just more Steelers stuff being sold, more money in the Steelers organization’s pocket, and more Steelers fans around to piss off sad, lonely browns fans. Great. Thats why Pittsburgh has success and fields consistently good teams that Browns fans haven’t had for DECADES.

1. The OL has been good at pass blocking. They give Ben enough time or at least enough time to make his own pocket. He has been sacked a lot, but that’s in big part because Ben never throws the ball away. Run blocking has been an adventure. Sometimes they look very good and then sometimes they look downright awful.

2. Yes and no. In the RZ he is still very capable of finding the hole in the zone and exploiting it. He’s a decent 3rd option, but not much outside of that.

Steeler WR development

I have a question: Who is your WR coach? And has he been around long? I think the Steelers develop WR better than most other teams in the league. It helps that you have an elite QB obviously but it is frustrating to see you guys so easily convert later round WR talent into top flight NFL WRs. What’s the secret and can we have some?

He’s teaching them lots of tricks I’m sure. It’s one of the fortunate things with the Steelers, and is talked about a great deal in articles. The veterans help the young guys become better. It’s a big part of why the team has been successful. Fielding a good team isn’t just about drafting good players, they have to be coached up, and the veterans play a big part in that.

Actually he has, Sanders throws devastating blocks, I watched him decleat a DE last year head to head. Nothing cheap or illegal about crack back blocks, they were a staple of the Niners & Jerry Rice & John Taylor threw a few every game. You guys are supposed to be running that offense, maybe you should spit mommas tit outta yr mouth and learn how to play it like ya got a pair.

Not gonna apologize that our converted college QB is so tough that the NFL had to change the rules to protect defensive players from his LEGAL hits. That legacy will continue through Sanders & the rest, keep your heads on a swivel bitches.

Yes we have done a great job drafting WRs lately. You ask if you can get some of ‘that’, well you had your chance at Mike Wallace but you took Massawuss so blame your FO.

Why? Saying a young WR unselfishly blocking for his teammates is stupid? For the record none of Sanders blocks has been illegal or dirty from what I remember. Its not just Sanders either. Brown and Cotchery has been joining in as well.

Ward’s hits were legal, remember they were before the rule change.

Taking Mohamed Massaquoi over Mike Wallace is pretty funny. I’m still laughing at the guys at Pats Pulpit who are kicking them selves at taking Ben Tate over Wallace,

Woah wait though, Mike Wallace was drafted primarily for his speed not his WR skill set, correct? My outsider observation is that it is the opposite. They find physical talent and do well turning them into good WRs.

Either that or they take them down to the crossroads and sell their souls to the devil.

Wallace was drafted for his speed. There is a bit of debate about how much he has developed his routes and what not outside of deep routes. I still think he lacks lateral quickness and moves to be a real threat in the intermediate stuff.

I honestly don’t know how we found Antonio Brown or why he was a 6th rounder. His speed, quickness, and hands should have been enough to make him a 3rd rounder at least. I think, outside of any major setbacks, he will be an elite WR in a few years.

yeah, that’s one guy. Every other team passed on him 3 times because despite his incredible speed, he is only 6’ 195. I didn’t mean they ignore things like speed and height, but they can see players who are deficient in an area that they can work around. Ward was a QB/RB/Receiver in college that was slow as hell, they felt they could make him a great receiver, they did

I’d bet Harrison is more football savy than the Browns LBs.

This thread is almost as good as the Baltimore Q&A.

Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.

Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang

By taking action. They will either be forced to change, or their team will start losing money, which will make the NFL lose money, and Goodell will do something about it. But as it is now, they have no reason to change that.

And as far as the Indians…what do you mean? They were pretty much forced into action in the early 90’s weren’t they? They never won it all, but they at least appeared to be trying to win right?

Most people on here aren’t big Shurmer fans. Some didn’t like it in the first place, some are willing to give him more time ONLY if he hires an OC next year, some want him gone now.

Both haven’t been great at all this year in the run game, but then again absolutely no one has been. It’s needless to say that we’re going to have to acquire someone in the near future to help with that.

by The Licensed Pessimist on Dec 7, 2011 7:30 PM EST up reply actions

Rubin has his good and bad games against the run. Sheard has his good and bad plays, but when that’s happening it almost always adds up to a bad game. Sheard gets upfield on run plays and teams run underneath him. The test of how good he can become will be if he can stay at home for the run but still maintain his pass rush ability.

Not to throw more gas on the fire, but I think what some of the original posters were trying to get at when talking about bandwagoners wasn’t in reference to guys who are from Idaho or Texas or whatever who are steeler fans, but the local ones. Specifically, in Northeast and Central Ohio you’ll meet a lot of guys who are Steeler fans, but also Tribe and Ohio State fans. A lot of Browns fans are also Indians and Ohio State fans, and their relative success takes away some of the pain of being a Browns fan, at least for me. Something about seeing a guy with Ohio State cap and Steelers jersey just makes them seem like they don’t really appreciate the success they have because they never have to go through long down periods.

And before anyone jumps down my throat about the Indians, I equate the 90s Indians to the 90s steelers: always close, always good, always just one piece away.

Its not just about winning, the Steelers are a pretty attractive team to some people because their consistent (not just record wise), they will always have the same ownership(family), the same coaches for over a long period of time, and keep most of their players, the Steelers will always play like the Steelers.

Question, if you grew up in Cincinnati, or Oakland would you want to be Bengals and Raider fans knowing how truly pathetic their with little to no glimmer of hope in the future because of ownership? No one wants to root for a team that doesn’t show effort in bettering themselves every year and winning.

If I grew up in Cincy or Oakland, i’d have no problem being a fan of that team. I’m about rooting for your team when they are down as well as when they are winning. Teams go through bad ownership cycles, bad coaches, and bad luck.

I don’t feel any person is OBLIGATED to root for any team, but if they don’t root for the home team…..then i’m not OBLIGATED to respect them, as fans.

come on the whole rooting for the home team crap is just a sorry excuse to make someone feel better or look better than someone else who doesn’t.

If someone roots for one team and loves that team unconditionally I see nothing wrong with it. I live In PA, but I didn’t, and I still loved my Steelers, you wouldn’t be better than me, or a better fan.

Browns are not either Oakland or Cincy. We have an amazing tradition and people such as myself have very fond memories of the mid-late 80’s teams that truly galvanized the region. And if I can get someone like John Stephens to answer the following football related question:

Is the key to getting past the Steeler’s defense really as simple as running four and five WR sets? We saw it last year in the Super Bowl with good success. Granted, there are very few Aaron Rodgers and Greg Jennings in the league, but it seems to me that a bad team (hint hint) would have an easier time forcing the Steelers to play with additional DBs rather than going straight at the front seven. At the very least, it seems that going with addtional wide outs would force the Steelers to either put their LBs into coverage, thereby negating the zone rush, or to pull the LBs off the field for the extra DBs.

I don’t think 5 wide will work well any more.

We have quality CB talent through out our depth chart now. Look at the Patriots game they tried to spread out the Steelers and had no answer for their man to man coverage. The secondary has actually become a strength thanks to the “Lake effect.”

I guess it’s a pick your poison kinda thing then. Would you still agree that, on the whole, your LBs are better than the DBs?

I can’t see the Browns doing anything offensively if they simply let your LBs do what they do best by running our normal offense against it. I’d rather see the Browns try to force your DBs to make plays than watching your same playmakers who’ve been tormenting us for five years continue to do so.

Also, with Mendenhahl’s up and downs this season, do you think the Steelers will try to stick with him against a weak run D, or try to go for the throat early with Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown?

by M.J.D. on Dec 8, 2011 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

Actually the secondary has played consistently better all season than the LBs with all the injuries there. Maybe even the best unite on the team. I’d probably give Ike Taylor team defensive MVP if it were up to me (or Brett Keisel).

Now that the OL has some continuity I’m not worried about Mendenhall. But look for a RB by comity between him and Redman just like against the Bengals to keep both fresh. The Brown will be focused on stopping the run at all cost so don’t be surprised to see a balance of both. Won’t be surprised to see Ben throw the ball at lest 25 times. I’m looking forward to the same game type that we saw against the Bengals. intermediate throws to our speed guys, with a balance of Mendy and Redman. But expect to see ALOT of Heath Miller and Hines Ward in the middle as well.

Thoughts on Marcus Gilbert vs. Jabaal Sheard?

by M.J.D. on Dec 8, 2011 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

best match up of the game.

Gilbert has been playing very well, we are very excited about his future at possibly moving to LT. he may actually be our best OT on the team. Good pass rusher but of course has his hands full with elite pass rushers, and made some great plays in the run game. Unlike Colon, Starks and Flozell last year, Gilbert isn’t a road grater, but is athletic and does better blocking people in space and down field. Also does well teaming up with Foster who I hope plays this game. I really like Sheard’s pass rushing , very under rated rookie DE. and should be very good years to come. I do think Sheard will get his fair share of pressure on Ben but I’d bet Gilbert will keep him from sacking Ben, and keep him relatively quite when run blocking, at lest not letting him tackle our RBs for losses.

Ok here is a Q: What sense of urgency do you feel about the age of the stillers? Is the window starting to close and you feel like you better win this year?

Only Other Q is: Why did Franco Harris always run out of bounds to avoid a hit or try to get extra yardage?

"There's a gleam men, there's a gleam!" Marty

by Red-Right-88 on Dec 8, 2011 1:19 PM EST reply actions

A1) Right now the urgency is at ILB, NT, and S, some and some what OLB.

Farrior and Foote might be done very soon, we have hopes for Stevenson Sylvester but expect the Steelers to draft a thumper ILB early in the draft. Long time solid back up Chris Hoke is going to be IRed with a neck injury and his back up McLendon has surpassed him and is actually playing very well but is some what under sized. Hampton is getting older and less explosive, expect them to find a NT in this draft or the next. Clark is starting to become a liability in coverage but I could see him transferring to SS as a back up where his ability would actually be more suited. Of course we all know of Polamalu’s reckless abandon and concussion problems, not to mention that it is no easy task to replace someone like Polamalu who really plays his own position, and would undoubtedly take a while fore another player to learn. But they have been experimenting with Timmons being that “roaming playing” near the LOS. Harrison is getting older and the back injuries are a bit of a concern, but Harrison is still playing OLB as good or better than anyone else in the league and you don’t just find a player that can replace all what Harrison does for the team in terms of pass rushing, shutting down the run, and being one of the best 3-4 cover OLBs, the only guy I can think of that comes close is Von Miller and we all saw how early he went in the draft. Jason Worilds will be playing a big roll opposite of Harrison, I’m sure how he does will decide what we do in the future, but they won’t use anything less than a 1st or 2nd pick on Harrison’s successor.

The DEs are young and up and coming, Timmons and Woodley are going to be very scary, and we have a bright future at CB, I’m not scared at all.

A2) 13 years, 12,120 yrds, 91 TDs, I’ll take it.

1. No worries on Offense? What about that OLine? but in summary is that next year should be the same or better than this year? We Browns always say that LOL.

2 Jim Brown didn’t look to run out of bounds first chance he could:
9 years, 12,312, 126 TD’s I’ll take that more.

"There's a gleam men, there's a gleam!" Marty

by Red-Right-88 on Dec 8, 2011 2:37 PM EST up reply actions

1) Thought this was age related? Our OL is relatively young. Gilbert will be moving to LT if not next year the year after with Colon or Starks fighting it out of RT, loser hopefully plays RG but I doubt it. The Steelers will most likely draft a LG high in the draft this year.

So next year our OL looks to be LT Gilbert, LG draft pick/Legursky, C Pouncey, RG Foster, RT Starks/Colon.

So yea I’d say it should improve a good bit.

2) I’ll take 13 years of good service any day. I’m sure anyone today will take a RB if they can play 13 years at mostly a high level.

Dude can scramble and break off big runs when he needs too. And he’s not even a run first QB. What I like about him most is his big arm accuracy. 50 yard bomb placed on a penny. He puts Vick to shame.
If we got him and a track star receiver… watch out.

I may get blasted for this but he seems like Aaron Rodgers lite. Big accurate arm, football smart, and can scramble.
