This morning I watched A. J. Hawk on the NFL channel pontificating about various topics. At the end of the segment the other talking heads brought up that Hawk is in a payment disagreement and that his future with Green Bay is in some jeopardy. He actually said that if they can't resolve the issue that he'd be "playing somewhere else". The problem is that when Hawk was signed, being a fairly high pick, he got a very lucrative contract for his position. Since that time he hasn't been the difference maker that Green Bay anticipated. He has played at a fairly high level but has actually started to see less and less play in terms of downs especially in coverage situations. Hawk is guaranteed $10 million next year on the first day of the "league year" which should be March 4th. This date might actually be delayed due to the labor dispute. There are a number of scenarios that could see Hawk end up a free agent. Many think that Green Bay will try and re-negotiate his contract but Hawk can opt out of that or maybe Green Bay will just release him rather than pay his salary.
Green Bay is another 3-4 team and some think Hawk might be better suited to a 4-3. So, is Hawk someone that the Browns should look to acquire if he becomes a free agent? Would he be an obvious upgrade?
