DBN Draft Player Profiles
I thought it would be a good idea for DBN commenters to sign up for a player and create a draft player profile for some of the prospects in the upcoming draft. As draft time approaches, we could aggregate all of the profiles and have one post linking to each of these player pages so that we have an easy place to read up on our future Browns.
Ideally the profile would include the following:
1. Player name and photo
2. Collegiate information (School and stats)
3. Measurables (height, weight, and can be updated with Combine information when it occurs)
4 Expected NFL position
5. Player strengths
6. Player weaknesses
7. Make the case for the Browns drafting the player
8. Make the case against the Browns drafting the player
In the event that two people want to do the same player, first come first serve will take priority unless it can mutually agreed on. There is no timetable for doing it, hopefully at least a week before the draft. If anyone has any good ideas to add to this, I can update this fanpost with additional ideas. Use the comments here to sign up for a player.

Dawgs by Nature -- where Mike Holmgren, apparently, 'did some good things'.
A suggestion to everyone who graciously volunteers to do this: if you see that someone else has posted a player, maybe try waiting the next day. I want to promote as many of the draft profiles to the front page as possible to ensure each one gets its due, but I can’t do that if all of a sudden four people post in one day.

I’ve never done a fanpost before, what kind of coding is required for it? Is it html or bbcode or is it something totally different?
you don’t need to know any code.

Even to post pictures and things? I guess I could do some trial and error, but I’d prefer if my post didn’t look half assed.
on the right hand side of any page of this site there’s a list of “Fanposts” … at the bottom of that list is an icon that reads “+ New Fanpost”. click on that link and you’ll be able to get home no problem.

If you have ever used Microsoft Word, the FanPost editor has some similar tools (i.e. click the bold icon to bold text). Not much, if any, HTML is required. I think there is a “preview” button you can use before you post too to make sure it doesn’t look weird.

Great idea, Dorn.
I’ll bust one out for Owen Marecic from Stanford.
It’s not a lie if you believe it.
You beat me to it. IMO, he would be an excellent pick for us in the 3rd or 4th round — a real “two-fer.” What’s not to like about this guy?
He’ll probably end up at New England or San Franciso if he doesn’t go to med school first.

What is a middle-party website?
Yes, that is Kyle Kuric
by TheRealSlimShady on Feb 8, 2011 11:17 PM EST up reply actions
I think the term more commonly used is third-party website (if that is indeed what SB’s referring to), which just means a website that is not the one you’re posting on (in this case, DBN) and that you’re not affiliated with the website you use to flip the text, hence third-party. The first two parties being DBN and you. The term third-party can be applied to all kinds situations not just websites, and it’s usually used as an adjective, however, in some less common cases I can see it being used as a noun.

I used middle to dictate that he needs to use it in-between himself and DBN. But, correct.

Total homer pick, but I’m going to put up a request for Dane Sanzenbacher, if I can’t get to it myself. If there’s no need in the 7th, I don’t see why we don’t give him a chance at least to make practice squad and the potential to prove himself.
by Don'tByBrownsQBJerseys on Feb 8, 2011 11:42 PM EST reply actions
Actually the only reason I see outside of having a need elsewhere is evaluating if anyone else has interest in him and if not, pick him up undrafted for even cheaper.

Its cool. I understand with conflicts. I shouldn’t have written that piece on Free agency. Now I have to read 11 chapters in my textbook (albeit a thin one where that only equals 60 pages) and write a 700+ page paper this weekend…Plus I work 12 hours.

A.J. Green anyone? I’m surprised no one thus far has opted to profile him (maybe its just because he is a relatively known quantity?).
I’d volunteer – but I don’t know if I have the time (at least not in the next week or so).
Also – it seems like it might be a good idea for some profiles to be posted (or updated?) during or after combine week.

Homan might actually be a solid fit for us now. Productive, will probably never wow anyone though.
I think Bailey is an NFL player but will go in the 2nd, Carter is smaller but is athletic and probably a late first round LB if he runs like he should and weighed 260.

Some players that are out there that I think it would be nice to get a profile on:
AJ Green, Marcell Dareus, Nick Fairley, Blaine Gabbert, Cam Newton, Prince Amukamara, Von Miller, Robert Quinn, Nate Solder
I’ll take Nick Fairly, can’t be sure on the time though.
"I want my unwarranted optimism back." -Dilbert
Yup.
Scratch that the though, Fairley that is, I’m going to switch to Dareus. It seems like we have a much better chance at landing him as Fairley will be off the board.
"I want my unwarranted optimism back." -Dilbert
I was actually just thinking, maybe I could write up a sort of “heads up” draft profile comparing the two DTs (Dareus vs. Fairley) that we might have a shot a drafting. I’ve got some good ideas on how to approach it I think.
Unless anyone had their heart set on profiling one of them?
