Cleveland Browns Undrafted Free Agent Signings
It seems as though teams have already been negotiating, and perhaps signing, undrafted free agents. The past few years, this website has been a great resource for following all of the latest UDFA signings. Use this as an open thread to discuss any players who the Browns have signed, especially if you've witnessed them play and can give a brief little scouting report on them.

So just maybe we should have spent a 6th and7th rounder on a couple of these guys you seem so keen on instead of the guys we did.

come on is this the big splash? we need to bring in a ot of O line and D. what the hell is our front office doing? Did anyone see Delvin to the Cards?

i don’t mind having LBs as project players. plus, although i know nothing about these guys, they’re likely to contribute to special teams so a lot of the guys like Trusnik, Sorenson, and Costanzo could end up being waived.

Since there were so many UDFA that still were draftable. This was a really deep draft and we have so many holes to fill. So far DB, LB, & 1 RB. Where the heck are the O line? We need that right side fixed…………..
"They kept throwing it at me. I don’t know why. They just kept trying, and I just kept knocking it down." - Joe Haden, Cleveland Browns.
We needone right tackle. I’d rather we get that right tackle in free agency. The hole is such that we don’t have time to let a guy develop.

I’m assuming that we retain Womack and Yates. Womack and Lauvao at guard and Pashos and a quality free agent tackle would make for a superb right side.

Anybody drafted after the third round is a lottery ticket. 99% of these guys won’t be in the NFL next year. The time to fix your team is not when UDFAs are being signed.
None of these guys will fill a hole, on any team.

Teams that should be making cuts this week:
Oakland Raiders: $14.9 million over
Dallas Cowboys: $13.9 million over
Pittsburgh Steelers: $10.3 million over
New York Giants: $6.1 million over
Minnesota Vikings: $4.3 million over
Indianapolis Colts: $1.8 million over
Baltimore Ravens: $1.8 million over
It’s nice to see two teams in our division being over the cap albeit Baltimore isn’t over much.
"They kept throwing it at me. I don’t know why. They just kept trying, and I just kept knocking it down." -- Joe Haden
Baltimore is now 18.6 under the cap and will be close to 25 under come Friday. Don’t get too happy.
Flacco's first 3 years vs. Brady's, Manning's and Brees' first 3 years
Flacco threw for just 21 fewer passing yards than Brady and tossed four fewer interceptions. Flacco threw for 1,655 more yards than Brees, two more touchdowns and four fewer picks. Manning, who averaged 88 more passes per season, threw for way more yards and touchdowns than Flacco, but also tossed 24 more interceptions.
He played at Kentucky. Over shadowed by Randall Cobb, but he was a good WR who was just starting to come along and figure everything out. He is very good at going up and fighting for passes in the red zone.
Probably, but if he has better hands than Mitchell, he’s got the same size, so I know who I would take.

No the hell it isn’t. You can teach a WR how to run routes, but you can’t teach soft hands. Not at this level

Dawgs by Nature -- where Hitler, apparently, 'did some good things'.
by golanbatrac on Jul 26, 2011 12:29 PM EDT up reply actions
uhh, no you can’t. An random statement like “it could be taugh” isn’t even conceivable; how actually would you teach soft hands? Like algebra?
That’s the reason why catch problems plague players their entire career. How do you expect to “teach” hands to Mitchell when much, MUCH better players like Braylon and TO didn’t get it. And yet it came natural to players like Little with less experience?
conjecture
by The Licensed Pessimist on Jul 26, 2011 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Its hard to teach feel but you can do it and you can definitely teach someone how to catch. For example, teaching them to use their hands instead of letting it get into your body.
You cannot not teach a grown man how to catch, simple as that. As a WR these player are expected to catch with their hands in certain catch situations. So they all know how to extend their arms and attempt to catch a ball with their hands, the problem is they suck at it.
That’s what it boils down to and that’s why your argument is wrong. The players already know how to catch with their hands, the problem is that they suck at it because it’s very mental. If they didn’t get it throughout high school and college then their not going to develop out of nowhere. Especially not a mediocre catcher like Mitchell.
Route running is more like math and is teachable. Not muscle manipulation
by The Licensed Pessimist on Jul 26, 2011 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Muscle manipulation and mental blocks are completely teachable and are often overcome. If they weren’t nobody would ever take a golf lesson, they’ld be stuck with their crappy swing for life. Is it easy? No but these guys are pros now and they have lots of time to work on it.
That’s because for one, golf swings are done standing still focusing on a still ball.
A WR is running at full speed, the ball is flying through the air, a CB is on their neck, and they have to be aware of their environment(bounds). So you are using every muscle in your body and processing information all at once. That’s a LOT of mental and physical information being processed at once. It’s not as simple as reaching your damn hand out. The two are not comparable at all

I’m surprised HenryDawg didn’t say “I love soft hands on a WR” and then try to save it somehow.

Ugh. Having lost though the new CBA the ability to throw money at UDFAs, we get a good and honest look at what players think of Holmgren / Shurmer / Cleveland / The Browns. Not a top tier prospect in the lot. Camp fodder. Future roster cuts one and all.

Juan Nunez seems to have potential. I ignored the University of Akron game at the beginning of the video because they were horrible last year. But he seemed to have good hands with the ability to get vertical and catch the ball in traffic. Seems like he could be a deep threat candidate with experience.
Good move for him. If he’s ever going to put up tons of yards, it’ll be in a Mike Martz offense.

Do we really want to spend our time and resources evaluating UDFAs? Darian Hagan spurns Houston for Cleveland
I’m a Cal fan so I think all of our guys are great, but I think you guys got a really good one here. He had an up-and-down career in Berkeley for sure, but he was a lockdown RCB in 2008 and had a lot to offer in 2010 when he wasn’t injured. (A good example of that is the Cal vs. Arizona game in which he locked down the Pac-10’s best receiver in Juron Criner in single coverage up until about the last minute of the game when Criner hauls in a Hail Mary on a split possession ball.)
He was pretty much terrible on the field in 2009, but he was going through a truly harrowing experience with his 1 year old daughter having cancer that almost convinced him to leave school entirely, so he probably deserves a mulligan.
Physically, he’s fast and rangy and he isn’t afraid to come up in run support. He’s a tough kid with a great attitude and some damn fine results on the field. Had his life off the field w/r/t his family life and injury history gone differently, I think (unqualified opinion, grain of salt) that he would have been a mid-round draft pick with upside. I hope he sticks with you guys, I’d like to see him play on Sundays.
