A bone for the Texas fans around here
Story about Shipley and Colt playing together. Too bad we couldn't get him in here. I know the thought gives the Texas fans around here a boner.

I am no Texas fan, but I think Shipley could come in here and challenge for some playing time at WR from day 1. I would love to see him in Orange and Brown.

Yeah, I’m the polar opposite.
Pittsburgh is just jealous. We got Cudi and they have Wiz.

Really? You wouldn’t want your QB to have a WR that he’s already completely familiar with? To me, your statement is got to be one of the dumbest made in a long time. Hell, I wish that we had Limas (of course, minus the headcase part of Limas) the way he was back at UT. I dont care where a players from, or what college he played for. All I care about is how well will my Brownies do!

If (thats a monster if now) you could get Limas some really hard core professional mental help, and it worked. Then I would give him a try.

This is a little overboard, to say the least. At least try to be polite.
I don’t think Shipley is bad, I just don’t think he’s any better than what we have already. Besides, familiarity only matters if it’s in the same system.

Well we all run some version of the WCO but I also think you’re underrating the importance of “chemistry.” (It’s a bad cliche, but that doesn’t mean its untrue).

The McCoy Shipley combo was absolutely amazing to watch. Shipley was the very definition of the go to guy for Colt. There was some serious magic happening with the timing between those two guys on Saturdays.

But this isn’t the Texas offense. Shipley would have to take the time to learn it and Colt probably doesn’t know it inside and out yet.

Obviously. I wasn’t implying Shipley could walk in and be his go to guy with the Browns right off the bat.
Just a little reminiscing really – although I do believe if by some odd set of circumstances Shipley did land in Clevelend, the timing and “chemistry” that developed between them over the years at UT could definitely be a factor down the road once they had both thoroughly learned the “Shurmur WCO” offense.

An amusing bit of irony I’d thought I’d drop in and share…
In tonight’s game the Longhorns were down by 6 points to BYU in the fourth quarter.
(from espn.com):
(starting QB) Garrett Gilbert was just 2 of 8 for eight yards with two interceptions and was lustily booed by the home crowd before he was pulled. Then…
McCoy (brought in to replace Gilbert in the 2nd half) then led an 8-play scoring drive that started at the Texas 48, connecting twice with Shipley for big gains before RB Cody Johnson scored on a 4-yard run up the middle that put Texas ahead for the first time with 8:46 to play.…that would be Case McCoy and Jaxon Shipley – younger brothers of Colt and Jordan.
(Longhorns won)

Gilbert has impressed me less and less since taking over from Colt in the NC game.

After the first game I thought maybe he had made some progress. Now I have a feeling McCoy’s little brother will soon be their starter. Gilbert just isn’t getting it done.

He’s a sophomore.
Something tells me he could be be good from what little I’ve seen and heard of him.

When you have a QB and a WR on the same page and they could probably finish each others sentences, I’d say thats what you want out on the field.

I’d rather have a QB and WR that finish each other’s sandwiches

With heckert around they would have to finish each others samiches. Or rather samich, because there would only be one left for the entire team to share.
That’s another reason we should have kept Mangini. With his diet, the team was able to eat more. Although they probably had to hide a few snacks from Ryan.

But that’s the thing, they wouldn’t automatically have that chemistry in a different offense. The terminology is different, and the reads and plays are going to be different too. They would have to work on establishing that again. It might come quicker than it would with some of our other guys, but our other guys have a one-year head start on Shipley.

Thanks for the bone er… yeah, the thought of Shipley as a target out there for Colt… (censored content).

A friend of mine and I joke about this regularly; we’re both Longhorn fans (although tOSU comes first) and laugh about the idea of Colt and Ship getting together 10 years into their careers and magically becoming better than the sum of their parts again, like they did at UT. (For those of you who didn’t watch, that connection was as good as there ever was in CFB)

Hey did you hear that Texas is in discussions with Big 10? Supposedly coming in with ND. The catch is that they are asking to go to an 8 game schedule so they can retain rivalries with OU and USC.

Serious as heart attack. They are asking for alot – but it would make a super conference. But asking to change the schedule to 8 games, and allowing Texas to keep the LHN seems like it would be shot down.

I wouldn’t be surprised. I’ve heard rumors of adding OU, OSU, ND and Pitt. What would be hilarious is if Texas went to the SEC just to piss off A&M.
The day Texas joins the SEC will be the day I stop paying attention to college football.

Texas makes little sense going to the Big-10. Nebraska was already a bit of a stretch geographically and Texas would be even more so. the SEC seems more likely, but I don’t think thats happening.
ND makes sense because there are already some natural rivalries and the geography works perfectly

The B10 would love to add that TV market. It makes a ton of sense academically, athletically, and financially.
Geography means little: B10 also linked to rumors with UNC/Duke, and Rutgers.

they would love to have the TV market and it does make sense with the academics and the $$. I just don’t see it happening even if UT doesn’t have ridiculous demands and I dunno why, but I think the geography will play into it at least a little bit.

If Texas had to move to another conference, the B10 would be my preference.

Would be a stretch geographically. You are prolly talking Minn, Wisc, Neb, IL, TX, Ia, Maybe you bring Mizzou. For TX not the biggest deal as we have Iowa St. and Mizzou already. Supposedly Texas is dangling the Turkey Day National Primetime game as an annual for ND vs. TX.
But Texas is growing leaps and bounds and the rust belt emigrating – so I am sure that the Big 10 would love the southern exposure.

Big10 is doing pretty damn well regardless of population figures. Texas would just mean even more money and that the SEC would no longer be the king of CFB.
I think if we got you guys, another big, blue-chip program would come with your or shortly thereafter.

Also, we dont have to wait 10 years for them to team up again. All Shipley has to do is not sign a new contract or an extension with Cincy. Then come to us as a free agaent.
