Nation Wide Mock Draft

Hello Browns Fans,

I had an idea for a mock draft in which your sports nation site acts as your team. Over the next few months I plan to visit each team's site and allow for each reader to help pick your team's draft pick. Please answer the poll to select your team's draft pick.

Star-divide

Just to give you a little more on this idea and myself, I am a writer for bleacherbumsports.net and will continue to organize all of the draft information I receive through my site. The poll will be up for 3 days after which the player with the most votes is your teams draft pick. I will then move on to the next site and have them pick from which players are left. This will only be a first round draft and can not involve trades so please pick where your team currently is. I would really appreciate everyones help with this. Thanks in advance! - Sam

Current Draft:

1. Colts - QB Andrew Luck

2. Rams - WR Justin Blackmon

3. Vikings - OT Matt Kalil

The Poll will be open until Jan.18 at 1pm.

Wow, that’s surprising Rams fans went with Blackmon

by johnf34 on Jan 15, 2012 9:45 AM EST reply actions

This is an easy one. There’s no chance RG3 doesn’t win this by a massive landslide.

Well, yeah, especially without trades being allowed. Thats why Blackmon went to the Rams, which does suprise me – didn’t they learn from this past year about not having a stud LT there to protect the QB?

It doesn’t surprise me with it being a fan vote that they chose a more flashy pick. But I agree that Kalil is the smarter pick, especially with a deep WR free agency.

I would like to pick up one or two of those FA WR’s. Use the draft picks for other positions.

And a FA RT as well. (Couldn’t resist.)

It would certainly help relieve some pressure.

I see the Rams as less likely to trade down than the Vikings. I don’t think you pass up a chance at an LT like Kalil — he is Jake Long good. (No one is Joe Thomas good.)

I agree. Whether it be Kalil or Blackmon I think St. Louis is going to want to add one of those guys to their offense to help out their first round QB.

by notthatnoise on Jan 16, 2012 11:38 AM EST up reply actions

If the Rams’s fans picked Matt Kalil, would the Vikings’ fans have taken Blackmon? I’m thinking yes.

Question: Other than Andrew Luck, is there a player who, if he is still on the board, you would take instead of Griffin?

by JamesPowell on Jan 15, 2012 11:36 AM EST reply actions

I’d consider Justin Blackmon and Matt Kalil over Griffin, if Heckert doesn’t think he’s capable.

No. But then again, I don’t get to go to pro days or watch all the game film or interview anyone.

Blackmon. Weaponize the QB.

Vikings could also go Claiborne or trade down with Washington and take either Martin, Reiff or the other good CB in the draft (can’t remember his name).

by HenryDawg on Jan 15, 2012 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

I would think about Blackmon. I probably would take the QB.

I would take Reiff over Micheal Flloyd in a trade down scenario.

by HenryDawg on Jan 15, 2012 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

He’s most people’s number two rated tackle. He’s listed all over the place though.

by C.b.I on Jan 15, 2012 8:18 PM EST up reply actions

He’s going to be one of those top OT in the draft probably. A first rounder because of position. How much had you heard about Nate Solder around this time last year?

by rufio on Jan 17, 2012 1:31 AM EST up reply actions

Not much, but admittedly, I don’t really get into draft prospects and scouting, I let that up to you guys and to what I see in the limited number of college games I see each year. Penn State played Iowa, of course, but I wasn’t really focusing on their LT.

My opinion is this: outside of the big name guys and our top couple of picks, I don’t do draft analysis. I just welcome the guys as Brownies after we’ve selected them.

Resident Tim Couch Apologist.

by Dawg Nuts on Jan 17, 2012 12:00 PM EST up reply actions

Reiff is good. He’s not Joe Thomas but he’ll be drafted relatively high. That’s about all you need to know. I would maybe be ok with him at 22 but not at 4, and I don’t think he’ll last till 22. Someone way off the radar for us at this point.

Not taking trades into account completely changes everything.

by jlsclarity on Jan 15, 2012 3:46 PM EST reply actions

Much to my own dismay, I voted for Griffin if only so we could potentially use him as trade bait. It hurts me that Blackmon was already taken off the board.

Honor. Courage. Commitment.

by Brownsbacker488 on Jan 15, 2012 4:12 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

You wouldn’t pick Griffin then trade him. You’d trade the pick and someone else would take him.

by johnf34 on Jan 16, 2012 9:20 AM EST up reply actions

That’s what the Chargers did with Eli.

by HenryDawg on Jan 16, 2012 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

Yea, if it was predetermined. Notice that 488 says draft him and potentially use him as trade bait. Totally different thing.

by johnf34 on Jan 16, 2012 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

This proposed draft would be the best case scenario for the Browns.

Shocked you didn’t say “who picked Richardson?”

I was more curious about the 4 people who voted for Floyd. Braylon Jr. anyone?

by Roger Dorn on Jan 17, 2012 10:51 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, and at least we have a need at LB. Those 64 votes for Richardson are far more suspect.

by Bernie19Kosar on Jan 17, 2012 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

Well I either want Blackmon or trade down a couple picks. But if we aren’t going either of those routes you have to take RG3.

Picks from Drafttek.com

RB Richardson Alabama, DE Mercilus Illinois, WR Jeffery S.Carolina & RT Allen Illinois. This would be a dream come true. Gotta give Colt some weapons, protection and getting another legit pass rusher. Go for LB or 2 in free agency.

So like 6’2, 245. I don’t know, he can definitely rush the passer.

nope. There is no way they go Richardson and this is ignoring the fact that Jeffery does NOT drop to the 37th pick. We may not be able to get him at 22.

I teach good life choices. That's why I almost didn't graduate high school.

by bross09 on Jan 16, 2012 9:27 PM EST up reply actions

Have these Drafttek guys got a clue?
I can only hope they don’t go Richardson. And you’re right, no way Jeffrey lasts until 37. Would love to get Mercilus @ 37, if only for the name, but he won’t last that long either. An RT in the 3rd round sounds about the right place though.

I'm entitled to my opinion. Especially if I'm wrong.

by Aussie Brown on Jan 17, 2012 2:19 AM EST up reply actions

I have no idea. They have Weeden going in the top 20 so there is a chance they just read some college football box scores and that’s about it.

I teach good life choices. That's why I almost didn't graduate high school.

by bross09 on Jan 17, 2012 2:22 PM EST up reply actions

that’s what I was thinking, Jeffery probably gets drafted in the 12-18 range along with Michael Floyd. I like the Mercilus pick at 22 if his measureables turn out to be accurate. I simply don’t understand how in the world all theses draft geeks can look at the Browns and say yep Trent Richardson is exactly what they need. It makes no sense.

by PaduaDSP on Jan 17, 2012 8:14 AM EST up reply actions

Its so annoying, its like they’ve deemed him a top pick so they need to stick someone with him.

by HenryDawg on Jan 17, 2012 9:33 AM EST up reply actions

the even more annoying part is the people who see all those mock drafts and think Richardson is a good pick b/c some Joe at Drafttek said so. I can’t wait for Todd McShay’s first mock draft where he has the Browns drafting Chase Minnifield 4th overall.

by PaduaDSP on Jan 17, 2012 9:53 AM EST up reply actions

I’m probably the last person who’s noticed this, but Chase Minnifield is Frank Minnifield’s son. Not that we should pick him…

by batard on Jan 17, 2012 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, awesome, let’s get that debate going again.

Resident Tim Couch Apologist.

by Dawg Nuts on Jan 17, 2012 12:02 PM EST up reply actions

We should pick him at 37 if we can. Not just because he is Frank’s son, but because he is a really, really good player. This is not like taking Casey matthews in the 4th round, but much more like going after Clay

I teach good life choices. That's why I almost didn't graduate high school.

by bross09 on Jan 17, 2012 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

I would love to get him at 37 but I don’t think he will last that long in the draft. NE is starting a WR at corner Minnifield would be a perfect fit on their defense.

by PaduaDSP on Jan 17, 2012 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

I think minnifield very well may last until 37. There is no guarantee that he is the CB that NE gets and there still could be another available for them.

I teach good life choices. That's why I almost didn't graduate high school.

by bross09 on Jan 17, 2012 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

This is probably the most accurate statement I have heard. I actually think the Browns might select him because he could be BPA at the time and not necessarily based on need.

by SBP on Jan 17, 2012 12:32 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe but I think most of these guys say BPA, and mostly draft BPA, but at the end of the day know they aren’t touching a RB, FB, or LB in the top 5.

by HenryDawg on Jan 17, 2012 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

yeah you have to base your selection on need, value, position, etc. There is no doubt in my mind if Matt Kalil makes it to the fourth pick that he would be far and away the BPA but the Browns have no business taking a LT at fourth overall.

by PaduaDSP on Jan 17, 2012 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

nothing in their mock drafts makes sense.

I teach good life choices. That's why I almost didn't graduate high school.
