Divisonal Playoffs: New York Giants vs. Green Bay Packers

The final game of this round between the Giants and the Packers is another very intriguing NFC match-up. The Giants somehow know how to turn on a switch when the postseason comes around. Their defensive line can get pressure like no other, but Aaron Rodgers is so good that he can fire it to any of his receivers on a rope and have them break the big one. The difference between the 49ers containing Brees early on and the Giants [probably] not being able to is the level of play from their secondaries. The Packers will win this one at home.

4 home teams winning in the Divisional Round of the playoffs hasn’t happened since 2004.

All home teams won last week too, I think.

We’ll see how long I last this game. Too much McD’s and feeling sleepy.

Even with a large stomach that sounds like a bad plan. Greasy eggs and hashbrowns is the go to hangover meal, IMO/E

Me too. What’s your recipe?

by kingcrimson2 on Jan 15, 2012 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

I usually wing it depending on what we have around, but the musts are worchester, horseradish, fresh lime juice, tobasco, and lots of it, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, celery salt, a splash of clam juice is nice if you have it.

What’s yours?

My ex makes them when sh’e here. Makes me want to vomit.

by Brownie's Year on Jan 15, 2012 4:36 PM EST up reply actions

My standard recipe is:
5-7 drop Worcester sauce
10-12 drop/dashes hots sauce (Franks or Red devil)
1/8 tsp horseradish (prepared)
lime juice (sliced, squeezed)
2-3 dashes celery salt
lots of fresh ground black pepper
3-4 drops A1 steak sauce
2 shot vodka (usually Tito’s or Stoli)
1 small can Campbell Tomato juice

Also do a variation with Sirachi sometimes

by kingcrimson2 on Jan 15, 2012 4:31 PM EST up reply actions

Good call on the Srirachi, I’ve done that too and its fantastic.

by HenryDawg on Jan 15, 2012 4:52 PM EST up reply actions

No doubt. I’ll leave out the horseradish and go wasabi, sirachi, and a little bit of regular hot sauce. Triple hot Bloody Mary.

Watching this Giants defense makes me think we’re not too far behind on the defensive side of the ball. We just need one more draft to put the finishing touch on it. Then, it’s a matter of maintenance for long-term strength…

Tuck, Ousi, and Pierre Paul are 3 stud rushers. Sheard looks good and Rubin is ok…we still are more than “a couple” players away, IMO.

by kingcrimson2 on Jan 15, 2012 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

None of those guys are rookies though, we need a RDE, a WLB and a little more experience and we’re pretty much have the type of defense where you’re just drafting the best defensive player available, not because you have a glaring need. We haven’t had that kind of D in a long time.

by HenryDawg on Jan 15, 2012 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

We’ve been down this road. Again I hope you are right, and agree the current D looks better than any in the last 13 years but I maintain our D is more than 2 players and our O is at least 5 players away.

Our D is 2-3 players away.

Our O? That’s a whole other story.

The story is our O is one player away. That player is the QB.

I’m guessing u were not serious, but I think DQ would be better playing the will, Burflict the mike and Gocong playing sam regarding your earlier post.

We'll be kicking ourselves if we don't get Burflict.

by The New Kardiac Kids on Jan 15, 2012 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think it would happen, and I’m not sure how he would fit with the other players (they seem to be pretty concerned about positive team chemistry, which I like), but I also think they could use a guy that scares people. Our D is solid and they seem to be building the sort of D that is boring but disciplined, like a wall, but I wouldn’t mind a dash of effing nuts added to that equations.

We need more pass rush.

I can get behind this line of thinking.

They should have punted.

by Brownie's Year on Jan 15, 2012 7:08 PM EST reply actions

Rodgers/Finley should have made that play. It was a good call.

That was the 3rd down play.

Still can’t believe the Saints didn’t win yesterday.

Straight up shocking.

by Bernie19Kosar on Jan 15, 2012 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

2 of the top 3 QBs lost before the Championships games. How does that lend credence to the argument that QB is by far the most important player on a team – that skill players needs are 2nd?

by kingcrimson2 on Jan 15, 2012 7:28 PM EST up reply actions

Both teams needed massive mistakes.

In fact, I would argue that the Packers and Saints are the two best teams in the NFL, just played their worst at the wrong time.

by Bernie19Kosar on Jan 15, 2012 7:30 PM EST up reply actions

That’s a more than fair argument.

by kingcrimson2 on Jan 15, 2012 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

I would agree about the Pack but SF came with an A game…..

We'll be kicking ourselves if we don't get Burflict.

by The New Kardiac Kids on Jan 15, 2012 7:50 PM EST up reply actions

San Fran needed 5 turnovers (one in each red zone) and still needed a last second TD.

Saints are the better team.

by Bernie19Kosar on Jan 15, 2012 8:39 PM EST up reply actions

Yep. San Fran played a great game but I agree. The Saints are a better team.

That was my understanding.

by burntorangeandbrown on Jan 15, 2012 8:43 PM EST up reply actions

I won’t argue that guys….just reveling in the mystique that is Alex Smith. He was provincial when they needed providence. Drew is far and away a better QB but not yesterday.

We'll be kicking ourselves if we don't get Burflict.

by The New Kardiac Kids on Jan 15, 2012 8:47 PM EST up reply actions

In a dome, yes. On grass, the Saints are just about average. If the Saints and 49ers played 10 times and split home/away, I’d call the home team to win every game.

by Legoman0721 on Jan 15, 2012 9:56 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Mainly that defense and a running game are still important, and that’s fine, but you still need a QB. You also need luck, timing and playing strong at the right time. That last one is random, you never know when that’s going to happen.

by HenryDawg on Jan 15, 2012 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

NYG are definitely healthy and hitting their strike at the right time. Props to them.

Only way to beat the Pats is to pass, pass, pass and rush the hell out of Brady.

The only team left that can beat them is the Giants. The Packers and Saints would have murdered them.

I said it yesterday, I see the Pats being like the ‘06-’07 Colts – awful regular season defense, then turned it on and shut people down on the way to a SB win.
