2012 uniforms - have your say

Amidst all the questions about free agency, the draft, RG3, McCoy and all the other questions, one issue subtly permeated Browns related discussions through the latter part of the season.

White or Brown?

No this is not a racial question. This is about whether or not you like us wearing the all whites that we wore during the Otto Graham and Bernie Kosar era or do you not like seeing the Steelers wearing their black and piss colored unis in our house more?

Would you like to see us break out the orange pants every now and then? How about brown trousers with stripes, an unexplored concept made famously popular by our own Special Brownie.

Also, did anyone notice that our orange helmets had a slightly different tone this year? It looked a little less bright than in recent years. Personally I loved it. I would like to see a mix of the whites and browns next year. Maybe wear the whites for non-division opponents and brown for division rivals?

I couldn’t put the orange stripe in properly. But the orange and brown would get swapped on the helmets. I’m into an all brown uniform with traces of orange.

I’d take the color and make it the alternate, then have our regular colored home jerseys and away whites.

The brown pants look great but the brown helmet…not so much. I’d rather see adding all white (including helmet) for a throwback (1950-51 day games). But…the orange helmet is a mainstay.

Someone under Holmgren who works on the business side of things (as opposed to the “football” side of things), I think. Holmgren would have the final say.

Simms and I have poked around with the idea of flat brown helmets before. The pic below would be a cool alt for a game or two a year. With a brown jersey it would looked decent too.

Browns lose.

Blinding Factor:
“Oh sh*t, I’m blind and can’t see anything! Who the eff are we playing, anyway??”
Browns win.

I would think some teams might go this route, but I guess the league office is discouraging it. They want to limit teams from wearing alt unis in prime time games also. They think it hurts brand recognition. For example, casual viewer tunes in to see the Jets, but they’re wearing their blue Titans of New York unis and doesn’t stay tuned because they don’t think the Jets are playing.

All Brown (a very dark brown) , with orange stripe on the pants, and one thin line down the middle of the helmet, and the numbers are a combination of white trimmed with orange

I just want the Brown back at home. Maybe with some orange pants thrown in once a year.

That would be perfect.

Orange jersey with brown pants as a alternate. Otherwise Brown jerseys at home.

Maybe we don’ need a logo but we definitely need a change. And I for one, like this particular logo (on white).

by DawgsNHawgs on Jan 25, 2012 11:18 AM EST up reply actions

I disagree that we need a change. I love the simple Orange helmets.

I love the simple orange as well. Just open to seeing something ‘fresh’. I think I’d like the all-white with white helmet, trimmed in brown and orange. Also all-brown trimmed in orange, with orange helmet. Then again, I might not. Would like to see some possibilities before passing judgement.

Here’s a couple ideas I’ve had for a couple of years:

Metallic orange helmet, like copper, as an alternate.

Put the B football logo somewhere on the uni like across the stripes on the pants.

And with all due respect for the Lerner family… I think it’s time to take the AL off the sleeves.

I disagree. He brought football back to Cleveland.

Yeah, I thought the same thing and I’m glad he did. But if he hadn’t done it, someone else would have. There were a couple other groups vying to get the franchise. Kosar was part of one of them.

And had of them done that, instead of Lerner, and passed away, I would gladly don their initials on my jersies.

I’m totally fine with the AL on the sleeve. It’s not like it’s a gaudy eyesore.
