NFC Championship: New York Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - JANUARY 22: Members of the grounds crew squeegee water off of the field prior to the San Francisco 49ers host the New York Giants the field during the NFC Championship Game at Candlestick Park on January 22, 2012 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)

The Giants and the 49ers have each had great postseason efforts from Eli Manning and Alex Smith, respectively. Both defenses have fierce groups up front with some clutch plays by their secondary. The NFC Championship will be contested under rainy conditions though; how will that affect the pass rushers on both teams? This game can go either way, and both teams deserve to be in the position to advance to the Super Bowl. My pick is the Giants because of the greater level of experience they have.

I don’t want the 49ers to win. I don’t want a rookie HC to walk in and get to the Super Bowl.

I don’t care if that’s lame, but something just doesn’t sit right with me having a rookie HC come out of college and reach a Super Bowl (a Michigan man at that) while Marty Schottenheimer never went.
