I'm mostly just posting this because the writer really irked me with his "organizational arrogance" line about the Browns.

WalterFootball: Trend Setter

Seriously, the guy who runs WalterFootball should feel awesome right now. He puts it out there and all the other mocks fall in line.

I’ve always thought he has had pretty good mocks. I think he even mocked us taking McCoy on his final ’10 mock.

we would be virtually risk-free team to trade with if they in fact want Blackmon…

i actually think STL sells the #2 for multiple pick offer from Washington for 1st, 2nd rounders, etc. Then they come right back at us to take Blackmon at #4 so we end up sitting on maybe 4 picks in top 40. i wouldnt hate that.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday, for an MDP today.

Wouldn’t it just be easier to trade with the Browns?

by Bernie19Kosar on Jan 23, 2012 4:43 PM EST up reply actions

I think we need a real impact player on offence from this draft. That should be either RGIII or Blackmon. I’m really against trading down this time unless both are gone. It could still happen but I’m sick of trading down. We must get elite players with the high picks that our bad seasons give us so that we can get better.

I'm entitled to my opinion. Especially if I'm wrong.

by Aussie Brown on Jan 24, 2012 6:32 AM EST up reply actions

I with you, I’m just saying Browns are in a good spot no matter what they do. STL can easily bleed that #22 pick from us to swap positions. Makes most sense if you think about it. But if not and they sell Griffin, i think we could trade down on Blackmon if we want.

Heres why: a legit WR option can be found deeper in this draft (Jeffrey, etc.) + we can load up for next year’s Barkley pkg. His stats steadily increase each year, where Griffin actually was stagnant (albeit good) until he blew up 2011….maybe a safer pick anyway. landing RG3 or Blackmon this year = win, landing quality WR, quality DE + another first rounder next year = win.

I’m looking at it this way too. No matter what happens (stay put, trade up/down) we’ll be in good shape.

by Brownie's Year on Jan 24, 2012 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

Yep. Its hard to mess that pick up.

We’ll be waiting until we have a QB.

If the Rams want Kalil or Blackmon… which i think they do… than they would be stupid to trade out of the top 4 because those players will be gone. If that is the case we would be the only team to trade with them and it wouldn’t make sense since either Blackmon or RGIII will likely fall to 4 anyway.
The only real wild card is the Vikings. I think they will be the team to make a trade.

by crazyL80 on Jan 23, 2012 3:48 PM EST reply actions

I agree with you on everything except I think the Vikings will stay put too.

I’m of the extremely personal and limited opinion that unless RG3 absolutely destroys it at the combine/workouts/interviews no one will be trading up. It could just be wishful thinking on my part, though.

I like your wishful thinking and wish that it comes true.

by Aussie Brown on Jan 24, 2012 6:34 AM EST up reply actions

I think no one will be trading up, but it won’t be for lack of trying. I think the Viking and Rams will both want either Kalil or Blackmon, and if they trade out of the top four they won’t get one of them. So the only team they could trade down with would be us, but why would we do that when we know they aren’t taking RG3?

by notthatnoise on Jan 24, 2012 11:59 PM EST up reply actions

I see no reason for the Browns to trade. Worst case scenario, Rams trade their pick to Washington, who takes RG III and the Vikings take Blackmon. We can still trade down since we would be sitting on the best OT in the draft at the number 4 spot.

There are three picks that I think everyone in Cleveland should be thrilled about, and huge value if they are all gone at 4. I’m really excited about round 1 this year.

by rebuilding year on Jan 25, 2012 1:39 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, the last few years don’t have the same appeal as this draft does.

by Brownie's Year on Jan 25, 2012 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

Having two first rounders and a potential franchise QB in your sights tends to make things more exciting.

Really wish it was just April already. I mean watching Kyrie is fun and all, but I want my actually may be good this year Tribe and draft craziness.

How are the rest of the Cavs so bad!? I just got to see my first game. Kyrie was on the bench for almost the entire 4th quarter (against that team down south, nonetheless!) and it didn’t seem like we knew that turnovers are a bad thing.

They are limiting Irving’s playing time intentionally, and trying to prop up the Sessions trade value. I would expect next year that Irving barely leaves the court.

by Roger Dorn on Jan 25, 2012 10:06 PM EST up reply actions

I love this coaching style. Alomst guarantees Irving works on and values his position. We’re in no position to win right now, so coach for the future. Loving it.

I guess I didn’t think about trying to trade Sessions. It just looks like we’ve gutted the team and we aren’t letting our best player play—which is frustrating when you hate that team down south as much as I do. Its probably smart long-term.

Far more frustrating is the lack of playing time for Tristan Thompson because Antawn needs to chuck up 80 shots in order to score enough to look attractive to potential trade partners.

Yep, also for trade value reasons and definitely more frustrating.

by Roger Dorn on Jan 26, 2012 10:11 AM EST up reply actions

Has Thompson looked good at all? He was out with an ankle sprain I think in the game I saw.

He’s looked much better than I hoped he would. Not great or anything, but he’ll be a useful piece.

He looks like what I thought he’d be: a smarter JJ Hickson. He can jump through the roof, has a knack for blocking shots, but unlike JJ he has a work ethic and can actually catch passes. He’s still super raw offensively, he’s ambidextrous and has a semblance of a post game but it needs work.

“Semblance of a post game” is way more than I expected. I saw him play at Texas and knew he was long, could jump, play defense, and rebound. I expected zero offense.

Well, half the team is made up of second year players who were UDFAs last year. Also Omri Casspi has been a big old nasty waste so far. I hope the Kings stop being even worse than us soon so we can actually use their pick.

Casspi hasn’t been awful in the past week. 10.7 ppg, 3.6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 5 steals, and been shooting well.

But thats a SSS, but he got hurt tonight.

I’m hoping his recent play means he’s turning it around, but it’s never good when you’re getting outplayed by Alonzo Gee.

Ditto, we were looking for someone who could run with Irving and take it to the hoop and all we got was another guy standing on the 3-point line jacking up gross looking shots COUGH antawnjamison COUGH
