SB Nation 2012 Mock Draft
Greetings Dawgs By Nature, P_Roach17 here from Bleeding Green Nation attempting to organize a SBnation-wide mock draft. After a disappointing season for my Birds, (and being less than thrilled with having to watch the Giants in the SB) I'm left with a football void at my core. So, as a result, I'm turning to the rest of SBnation to satisfy not only my football needs, but the needs of others who are on the outside looking in during this 2011 postseason. You will of course be representing the Cleveland Browns in this Draft, who currently hold the 4th overall pick in the 2012 draft, as I'm sure you all know. Your cooperation in this poll is greatly appreciated. Note: I would like for this poll to reflect the fans choice, not necessarily who you think your team will draft. Now for a few quick rules.
Rules:
1) There will be no trading picks. Trading picks would be both complicated, and time consuming, so everyone will just stay put at their set draft position.
2) Submit your votes for the player of your choice as soon as possible. After 2 days the results of the poll will be final, Daily Norseman will submit its pick at 1am on 2/2/12, and Bucs Nation will be on the clock.
3) If you feel as though I have left a player out that deserves consideration as your teams draft selection, then let me know in the comments section, and I will gladly add them.
4) Any draft talk (or argument) that is to be made pertaining to your Browns' pick, feel free to make in the comments section.
5) ******** Be sure to rec this post so that it will remain under the recommended fan post section for everyone to see, and so that they are able to cast their vote *********
Previous picks:
1) Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck
2) St. Louis Rams - Matt Kalil
3) Minnesota Vikings - Morris Claiborne
Hopefully this can be a fun experience for all of SBnation, as well as provide insight into the upcoming NFL draft. Be sure to vote and keep the ball rolling so that the rest of SBnation can participate. Thanks for your time, and good luck in the upcoming season. Dawgs By Nature is now on the clock!

With Hillis and Richardson in at the same time, how can we lose?!

We’ll forget to line Mack up at NT and put him at C.

Why on earth would we want Kalil?

That sounds awful. Peyton’s only got a few more years in him at best, and he’s coming off of freaking neck surgery, so I doubt he’ll be at 100% immediately. Also, Reggie Wayne is 33, so he is no spring chicken either. The amount we would have to give up for Peyton is probably wayy more than the organization would ever want to, so it really is just a pipe dream. And since it’s just a dream, wouldn’t you rather have Andrew Luck? Or that Matt Flynn turns out to not be the next Kevin Kolb?

Wouldn’t we be wasting it if we didn’t go Nancy Kerrigan on John Elway?

But in all seriousness, I love that so many are drinking that RG3 koolaid. Just makes him even more valuable when we get to trade down.
Ultimately we dont get to choose so it doesnt matter what koolaid we drink. I honestly just want the FO to make a move to get their guy at QB. too much weird talk is goin on with McCoy to even suggest hes their guy. I want a top tier QB here, and I dont care if its RG3, Luck, Flynn or someone we arent discussing. If the FO says thats their guy I trust them. The reason many people like RG3 is because he seems like the absolute best in our eyes while getting the most value. Has accuracy and strength in throws, mobile in the pocket and is reportedly very smart (finished undergrad and a masters program in 3 years I think). If they can get that guy everyones hyped him up to be then its a steal. Quite frankly, I dont care if we sell the draft to get Luck if they think hes that good. Its about time we have a QB and let things fall into place around him.
If he’s there at #4, I really hope someone wants to trade up or him. Then we can trade down a few spots, possibly grab Richardson, then maybe DeCastro at #22. I think getting more draft picks and maybe grabbing Weeden at the top of the 2nd if he’s there would fill more holes for the Brownies and allow them to compete much sooner.
What’s the point of filling holes if you are only going to fill them with sand? We need something solid to put in those holes, like a good starting QB that we can build around.

All you have to do is look at the struggles of Minny and Tennessee (who have arguably 2 of the best RBs in the NFL- Arian Foster may be above CJ) to see that a great RB means jack squat to how the offense is overall. Its a RB by committee league now, and I think Hillis Jackson and possibly a draftee this year to be a quicker guy does that (I dont think too highly of Hardesty). Also a OG is not valuable with the #22 pick. We got Pinkston at the end of the 5th round, and after enduring a little bit of growing pains early he turned out to be pretty good, and obviously still improving. Steinbach and Greco both offer other options at RG. Needless to say, I would be PO’ed if they decide to spend a quality pick on a OG.
What is the FO comes back and says that McCoy is the guy (even with the “weird” talk)?

I ask because so many have been quick to throw Colt away and assume that the Browns are moving on. We have to be prepared with the fact that they may stick with Colt and do something else with the pick.
by SBP on Feb 3, 2012 4:01 PM EST up reply actions
This is my opinion, but I think if the Browns do stick with McCoy, it has more to do with limited options this offseason (RG3 gone/not enamored with anyone/can’t meet asking prices) than it does with true confidence in McCoy. If right now they feel confident in him as the starter next year, they’ve had a funny way of showing it.

I could see where Holmgren, when he stated “there will be a competition” does believe in him. Also, what Andy Reid said about “the light going on by the fourth year.” If I had to interpret this, coupled with Holmgren telling the Redskins fan “they should trade up for that guy”, to me it sounds like at least a year window for McCoy and a bunch more picks for the Browns. If i’m wrong you can all throw cocktail weiners at me and laugh. I think they’re just trying to light a fire under his ass.

Never hurts to light a fire under anyones ass. I do it at work, home – hell its done to me. We all want the players we already have to be the best at that spot, cuz it means we dont have to search for an immediate replacement. I’m hoping that McCoy’s in Texas/Mississippi or whereever, working his ass off this off season to get it done.

C’mon NTN, surely you remember all of those times when Jim Caldwell said there would be competition in camp between Peyton Manning and Curtis Painter. And while we’re talking about the Mannings, Eli better stay sharp too, Tom Coughlin announced yesterday that David Carr has a chance come July.

Picks in, and no surprises here
Figured RGIII was the obvious choice, gotta admit I didn’t think that Blackmon would get half as many votes as he did. Best of luck this year guys, and thanks for participating!

I wish some of you guys would come over to the Browns yahoo message board sometime,we need some more intelligient fans over there. Most of them just want to troll the Steelers board, then fight all day when the Steelers trolls come back over to trash our board. There might be 4 or 5 guys who know anything about football, the rest are just a bunch of a-holes.I voted for Richardson,I like him alot, but mainly because this is a trick question. We all know RGIII won’t be there at #4 and I don’t like the idea of what they would have to give up to move up and get him. There is gonna be a bidding war on and the Browns have too many needs to give up alot to move up 1 or 2 spots.I don’t think Blackmon is worth a #4 pick, and I wouldn’t use a #4 pick on a RT.But I guess the original post was “if” he was,so yes IF,big IF I would take RGIII.
