Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Our second first round pick

Does anyone here agree that we have almost ensured that our #4 pick will be Griffin or Blackmon? Colts will go with Luck, everything we need to happen is either the Rams or the Vikes taking Kalil (very possible). Then it doesn't matter if someone jumps for RGIII, we get Blackmon (win-win).

Without breaking the bank, we would be in great position to fill with great talent some other needs at offense.

So, what you guys do pick with our second first (by now, 23rd)? I think we should take an OT (Jonathan Martin/Levi Adcock) or even a guard (DeCastro). On 2nd or even 3rd round we could select a solid RB (LaMichael James/Chris Polk/Jeremy Stewart).

Thoughts?

Go, Browns!

Burflict, I’ve said a hundred times. We can build a behavioral clause in his contract. I don’t want him going to the Ravens or Steelers.

DBN, where I will never understand why they fired Mangini. We went 4-12.

The major problem with Burfict is his work ethic. Even his coaches called him out for not giving it his all. I want no part of a guy who may quit at any given point in a game.

I don’t want him going to the Ravens or Steelers.

I’m probably misinterpreting this, but are you suggesting drafting a player so that he doesn’t go to our rivals?

by S.NM.Brown on Jan 4, 2012 1:42 PM EST up reply actions

Nope, don’t misinterpret. That is exactly what i’m saying. We need a run stop guy. However the FO wants to structure his contract to get his motor on high at all times, I’m down.

DBN, where I will never understand why they fired Mangini. We went 4-12.

by The New Kardiac Kids on Jan 4, 2012 4:34 PM EST up reply actions

Fine. I’m still not on board. But leave the part about him going to the Ravens or the Steelers out of it. If trying to keep said player off a rival team is a motivating factor, then whoever is drafting is on a quick trip to nowhere. You draft the guy because you like him as a player and believe he has potential.

by S.NM.Brown on Jan 4, 2012 5:59 PM EST up reply actions

I agree, and I don’t think I want him but I can understand that why he doesn’t want another maniac sociopath on one of those teams.

Where would he play in this defense? I am assuming that DQ will be back.

The guy is a hot head who clashes with team mates and coaches. He can’t stay on the field because he can’t stop making dumb decisions. No thanks.

Doesn’t stop a lot of guys. Mike Vick was making way more money and had way more expectations than this kid. Same for Ben Roethlisberger. Suh is going to get himself suspended every year and he was a #2 overall pick.

You said money and responsibility changes people. Obviously it doesn’t. Mike Vick had tons of both and he still ran a dogfighting ring and got caught with pot. Ben Roethlisberger has tons of both and still rapes women.

You can’t just assume people will change. A lot of times they don’t. Burflict may indeed mature, I’m not saying he can’t or that it’s even unlikely. I just want to know what makes you so sure he will.

That’s because Jim Schwartz has always had dirty players, even when he was in Tennessee. I don’t think the current guys need them to be choir boys or anything but I also don’t think they want a cohesive locker room. If this guy is a problem with coachs and other players that’s like a cancer.

Drafting a kid that has on, and off, the field anger issues isn’t going to help us win games.

Plus, he is a LB that doesn’t rush the passer.

2nd rounder at best, and I wouldn’t even use that. I have a feeling he is going to drop in the draft after interviews. Dennis Erickson, a guy who had all sorts of turds at Miami, couldn’t stand the kid. There is a major problem here.

I don’t know how this kids going to act anymore than we know RG3 is gonna save us. What I can speak for is his play on the field. He’s a solid tackler, maybe the best in the draft. He plays the mike and we give up alot yards on the ground. I like him.

I’m looking for a mean run stopping LB at this pick, although I wouldn’t be mad at a DE who was a sacking machine.

by brownsmeist on Jan 4, 2012 5:42 PM EST up reply actions

I’m just going off the scenario above (Blackmon taken first). My thoughts would change if we grabbed someone else at #4.

by Brownie's Year on Jan 4, 2012 6:03 PM EST up reply actions

if we’re going to be getting QBOF this draft …our other first rounder pick — if we have are able to keep it —should be OL. if we get blackmon instead, i agree with a defensive pick although i’d prefer LB or S (I like Barron) to help against the run.

November 6, 1995 is unforgiveable.

by WYBHaden? on Jan 4, 2012 2:54 PM EST reply actions

I’m fine with LB in the 2nd. We can get a good player there.

by Brownie's Year on Jan 4, 2012 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

My hopes and semi-realistic dreams for this draft:
1st 1st pick: RG3
2nd 1st pick: BPA who happens to be a legit #1 receiver
2nd pick: BPA who happens to be a LB or DE
3rd pick: BPA who happens to be an OT

Read my mind exactly. This would instantly get an A+ draft. I also want money SPENT this year in FA. What we holding it for?

by brownsmeist on Jan 4, 2012 5:51 PM EST up reply actions

My gut tells me that we get a big name player this year.

by Brownie's Year on Jan 4, 2012 6:09 PM EST up reply actions

I think we’ll get a medium name like Desean Jackson. I also wouldn’t mind Fred Jackson if Hillis goes. I think he’s an FA?

by HenryDawg on Jan 4, 2012 6:19 PM EST up reply actions

I think they want to spend most of their cap on players who have proven themselves while they’re playing for the Browns. You can’t blame them, throwing around FA money almost never pays off, but paying your own guys well is good policy and provides good motivation for the younger guys.

Despite that I think they’ll be more aggressive this year.

by HenryDawg on Jan 4, 2012 6:21 PM EST up reply actions

the way the cap is set up we have to spend. which is a great thing!

With some exceptions of course. We don’t need a center. We don’t need a middle linebacker. We’re pretty set at DT.

We could draft a Tackle but it would have to be a Right Tackle. Our Left Tackle has paid half of his ticket to Canton.

by BrownsFanRegina on Jan 6, 2012 1:09 AM EST up reply actions

We still need a tackle, just not one on the left side.

This is the third time i am typing this. I didnt think what i was thinking was so outrageous that it would get clipped twice, but here i go again. After we address the QB in FA, I believe we should go after weapons for him. I think that we should go after Richardson with the number 4. Here me out. I like Blackmon, but I think we need a running game more. I dont think Hillis will return, and we need to fil his spot with a stud. Blackmon is a stud, but I like Alshon Jeffery too. I think we go with him in our 2nd number 1. Two weapons that dramatically improve our team. I like RG3 but i havent seen enough of him to grab him with the 4. Plus H+H dont seem to like him, he isnt what they are looking for (pocket passer).

What do you think of us going after Mario Williams for a DE? I think that he is a FA and that he is Unhappu at OLB .

Be gentile with your responses…

I think you’re wrong that H&H wouldn’t want him. He’s a lot like like Brett Favre or Steve Young, 2 Holmgren coached teams. Heckert and Shurmur had McNabb in Philly. All three of these players are all know for their big arms, but they can run out of the pocket if and when they need to. When they asked Shurmur about him it was the most happiest I’ve seen him all year. I think he got a little wood.

Yeah, I’d love Drew Brees too. We have just as much a chance of getting Brees as we do getting Williams, without giving up a huge amount in a trade. Even if he is a free agent, they would franchise him and, if he wanted out of Houston, they would trade him. You don’t let a guy like Mario Williams walk.

There is so much wrong with what you say here. You say you like RG3 but haven’t seen enough of him. Then you say H and H don’t seem to like him. I’d like to see your source of that. You then go on to say he’s not a pocket passer, after admitting you really haven’t seen enough of him? If there is one thing we agree on, it’s Alshon Jeffery. I think that guy is gonna be a stud.

by RyanBr on Jan 5, 2012 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

when i say he wouldnt fit, i say that because from what i have seen when RG3 moves from the pocket he looks to run first rather shift to extend the play.

we are all Kipnises...

by BG_Dom84 on Jan 4, 2012 9:07 PM EST reply actions

That’s not what most people have seen. According to most people who have spent a decent amount of time watching him or his tape (I’m not one of them, but I’ve watched a few games this year) he looks to pass first, adjusts second and runs if he has to.

Even in the Alamo Bowl there were several plays where he shifted in the pocket, could have run and then dumped off to an outlet. BTW, I have no problem with a QB who can pick up 20 yards on a busted play on 3rd and 15. That is just completely frustrating for the other team when they have it defensed perfectly and then the guy pulls a first down out of his butt. I remember Elway doing that all the time and it drove me nuts.

by HenryDawg on Jan 4, 2012 9:22 PM EST up reply actions

Aaron Rodgers does the same thing. Unstoppable. Sad stat about that is he actually has 2 less rushing attempts than Colt this year….almost 90% of them are running by chioce though … lol

by WYBHaden? on Jan 6, 2012 10:22 AM EST up reply actions

If you really believe this, it’s because you haven’t actually watched him play. He is NOT a run first QB.

by RyanBr on Jan 5, 2012 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

Well, according to talk radio all afternoon, trading it in a package for Peyton Manning is a not too unreasonable possibility. If I can find a link, maybe I’ll post a Fanshot.

What does that MEAN - TO PLAY US OUT?!!?!?

about peyton, the guy is 35 years old and just had neck surgery. Im not sure how much I would be willing to give up for him…

Luke Kuechly but I don’t see him falling that far. We would probably have to trade up.
Dont’a Hightower would be a good pick here as we have LB needs
Sam Montgomery wouldn’t hurt my feelings as our pick here either
Nick Foles possibly. I’m not sure if I would like him here though. Probably a better 2nd round selection or wait on Case Keenum possibly in the 3rd round.
Zebrie Sanders would be a good upgrade to the O-line
