Questions about the Browns:
Hi everyone,
I’m visiting from Arrowhead Pride and I have a few questions about your team. First off, I wanted to say I feel your team has a good base to improve from. You're defense is no joke.
Now, I’m writing a piece on the Browns and I want to know your opinion. As a huge NFL fan (Chiefs more specifically) I know that fans are much more insightful than general sites such as ESPN and others. Without further adieu:
Who was the biggest rookie surprise this season?
Underrated player on the team?
Overrated player?
What is the position that needs to be upgraded the most?
Who is the player you feel is most on the rise?
Thanks for your time!

I’ll take a stab.
Who was the biggest rookie surprise this season? Jabaal Sheard
Underrated player on the team? D’Qwell Jackson or Phil Dawson
Overrated player? Peyton Hillis
What is the position that needs to be upgraded the most? Technically, RDE. But really, QB/WR.
Who is the player you feel is most on the rise? Sheard
agreed on all fronts except that Haden is in contention for most overrated, Rubin is in contention for underrated, and I think any which way you slice it, we need playmakers on offense more than we need another DE.

How do you feel about Greg Little?
I was pretty impressed when I saw him in action
We're the same team as last year, except incredibly better, and with new players.
Has potential but drops far too many passes and earlier in the season he predictably would find himself in wrong place at times. But he’s definitely trending upwards, I dont htink he’ll ever be a “great” WR, I think he’ll be a great compliment to a great WR.

He was awesome after he moved over. Made plays in every game.

I think it was a bad idea in the first place to play him at the Will position, which typically requires a better athlete.

I wonder if the FO has always imagined him moving over. Would explain the contract extension earlier this season when he was playing poorly.

Sheard is an absolute stud.
Agree on Gocong +100. The guy has suddenly turned into a beast the last several games. If he keeps it up, add a little more depth in the secondary and our D is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
That was my understanding.

Who was the biggest rookie surprise this season? I will echo everyone else, Jabaal Sheard. But if you need a different answer, Buster Skrine played pretty good when he got chances. Still raw, but seems to have some skills.
Underrated player on the team? Joe Thomas. I know that may sound funny, but the guy is unreal. Whenever he does have a poor game, or even a poor play, it is shocking. The guy is easily the best OT I have seen since Orlando Pace. Truly one of the best.
Overrated player? Josh Cribbs. Love the guy as a player and seems to love the city. But he is no longer explosive and is miscast as a WR. On the downside of his career, but still a fan favorite.
What is the position that needs to be upgraded the most? Quarterback. This is a QB league and the Browns have had questions at the position for years. Until we fix that, we will be missing the playoffs every year.
Who is the player you feel is most on the rise? Greg Little and Joe Haden. Both of these guys are good, but have a ton of room to grow. Little has hands questions, but is violent after the catch. He can be a real difference maker if he keeps working at it, as he has only been a WR for two seasons. Haden on the other hand can make the jump to elite. Needs to work on keeping his hands off guys when breaking up passes and not biting so hard on double moves, but the guy is special.

Underrated player on the team? Carlton Mitchell

Dawgs By Nature - Where winning, apparently, did some bad things.

I don’t really have any numbers and maybe it just seems this way because it’s more fresh in my memory but I just remember him getting burned more than last year. Hrrmmm
It’s entirely possible I’m being fooled by the fact that our run defense was so bad that no team ever had to pass on us at all. It made our pass defense look monumentally better, statistically speaking, that it may have actually been.

We were 5th in the NFL in yards per attempt against.

No interceptions, for one. Weird to go from tied for second in the league to 0.

QB’s probably quit looking in his direction quite as often as last year. I would have expected one or two though this year.

Because I think a handful of people think he is better than he actually is. Though, that’s mostly just around here.

He’ll be a good #2 WR in our offense. I don’t know if I’ve seen anyone around here promote him as a true #1 like Calvin Johnson. But if you say so…

Surprise Rookie : Jabaal Sheard
When I saw we drafted him I was like “Haha we drafted the guy with the funny name.” He’s no joke.
Underrated player: Mike Adams
I really don’t have much of an explanation but he led in INTs if I’m not mistaken.
Overrated player: Cribbs
It looks to me he’s slowing down
Biggest need: WR
I say WR because our receivers are crap. The disparity between a good WR and our WRs is much bigger than the disparity between Colt and a good QB
Player on the rise: Haden
When you don’t hear your #1 CB’s name thats a good thing.

Jabaal Sheard-Guy had an unbelievable rookie season and will only get better
DQ Jackson-Most people wrote him off this year after having missed the last two seasons.
Peyton Hillis-Put up huge numbers in one season of us pounding the rock, need to see more consistency.
WR-We have no elite playmakers here. We are using our KR in this position. We need help here the most.
Joe Haden-Had a great season and should only get better next year.
"They kept throwing it at me. I don’t know why. They just kept trying, and I just kept knocking it down." -- Joe Haden
Mine will sound somewhat like the rest…
1. Jabaal Sheard was the most productive rookie. Hopefully he doesn’t slip up like Kamerion Wimbley.
2. Phil Dawson is my guy. I don’t think the league will ever recognize him as one of the best kickers of this time period simply because of the Browns poor record. It’s an honor that he still chooses to stay here.
3. Peyton Hillis only because of the contract issues. All the hype from the Madden cover didn’t bother me, but obviously it got to his head and he lost focus, which likely could have caused his injury or at least a contributing factor.
4. WR is a must, but I think a TE is just as important. Jerome Simpson is doing wonders for Cincinnati. Really any offensive playmaker. I’m not ready to give up on McCoy though as many of these guys know already.
5. Logically, Sheard is in position to have the biggest impact and the most likely to succeed at it, but Little is looking a lot better than what he started off as. We should hire Torry Holt as a personal trainer for Little so he can learn to quit dropping passes.
Honor. Courage. Commitment.
