Draft Tek has some interesting Browns picks....
I've got a lot of respect for this mock website. I'd say it's probably the best out there. Can check it out here.
They've got us taking Trent Richardson at 4. Honestly, I don't love the selection as I hate taking a RB so high but I wouldn't be "angry" if we did. Richardson is a stud. Probably the best RB prospect to come out since Peterson. You cane watch Richardson Highlights if you'd like.Beast Mode.
The more interesting of the two picks is Zach Brown (OLB) at 25. Certainly turns us into an absolute Elite defensive unit. Not just top 10. Brown can play run and pass. Just my opinion. But I'd love to see David DeCastro (OG) on the board when we come up. Not flashy picks but pencil them in for at least half a decade.
The rest are pointless until the draft order is solidified. I'd prefer a WR at 38.

I prefer an offense only draft in the first 4 rounds. Then we can add a safety or other defensive project player later rounds.
I am tired of seeing mocks with us taking Richardson. I am tired of mocks with us taking defense high. Richardson is not the BPA at 4 and running back is not our biggest need. There is no reason to go RB until late if ever.
I don’t mind the idea of an offense only draft although I would just stick with that strategy for our top three picks. As for Safety, I am quite sure that Sheldon Brown will be the starting Free Safety for the Browns next year.
Richardson is an elite player. He is a top five on most big boards I have seen. The only non Quarterback I would take over him is Justin Blackmon. If JB is gone than think the Browns should take Trent Richardson. If we do not retain Hillis than I think Running Back is our second biggest need on offense.

I think QB, WR, and OG/RT are bigger needs than RB. Plus I think Watson will be gone and we’ll take a TE in the draft too. At RB, even if we lose Hillis we have Hardesty, Jackson and Obyoganna (sp?)… those three can split the load if need be and we’ll be fine. But i really think we are going to keep Hillis and trade/cut on of the other RBs.
Unless our O-line starts opening huge gaping wounds of running lanes, I don’t expect to see Hardesty get much better. I would like to, but I don’t expect to.

I don’t know, they say it takes 2 years to get past a knee injury. But until we see otherwise, he sure seems like H&Hs biggest draft mistake.
I can tell you from experience that it does take about two years.
I also think it’s hard for a guy to get started unless he gets some consistent touches. Hardesty had a decent game or two, but he can’t stay healthy. That’s his problem, not skill.

I’d take Claiborne over Richardson 100/100 times.

One OLB alone wouldn’t turn us into an “elite” defensive unit, IMO. We’re well on our way to being an AFC North caliber defense, but we need a little help/youth in our secondary and we’ve got to do better than Jayme Mitchell at DE, as well as picking up a better OLB. We’re definitely definitely on our way though and even though I found this season very disappointing, I do take a lot of hope in the way our defense performed as a whole, all things considered.

I was thinking it would be nice if we could go offense with the first two picks and then get a good DE in the second round. Then, there should still be some good offensive talent left in the third and an O-lineman in the fourth.

Damn. Still need a LB. Maybe the O-lineman comes from FA this year (but not from the same talent pool as Hicks and Cousin).

Here are the OL FAs:

Never heard too many of the names but it looks like most of the OTs are in the same group with Hicks and Cousins.
I think Mike Adams might be a good RT.
I’m hard pressed to believe that Brandon Weeden will be a first round pick, being 27 years old and all.
Plus, and draft that has this front office passing over a QB for a RB is sorely mistaken.

yes, Tannehill goes over Weeden and I don’t particularly like either.

Our offense is designed to pass the ball over 60% of the time and mocks seriously think we are taking a RB at pick 4?

Seems the mocks generally just reflect BPA at this point (this early in the year).
That was my understanding.

I think they try to make matches, they just don’t really know each team well enough to know what they are talking about.
Right. As we get closer to April most of them will start looking less like mirrors of a big board and more like realistic mocks after they’ve done more thorough team by team assessments (re: my comment “this early in the year”…).
That was my understanding.

This mock doesn’t have us taking a WR until the 3rd round? That being said, Jeff Fuller would look good in Brown and Orange…

I think taking a RB that high, no matter how good a prospect, would keep me up nights. This teams needs WRs and needs them badly because MoMass isn’t a deep threat, has no breakaway speed and can’t catch the ball. A lot of the offensive troubles this year stemmed from McCoy simply having no-one to throw to and key drops when he did. For me the needs are WR, right side of the line, defensive end and one more LB. If we re-sign D’Qwell and with Gocong locked up, one more LB should do it with the others as cover.

To me it’s WR, QB(maybe, not completely sold either way), DE, CB, FS, then secondarily OLB, TE, Right OL, and RB.

Even though we need offensive help, would anybody mind if we drafted Claiborne from LSU with the fourth pick? He’s an absolute stud, and opposite of Haden could create an amazing duo.
I wouldn’t hate it because I think he’s going to be awesome, but we have much bigger needs and there are more impactful players we could get.

I wouldn’t mind at all as it would fill two need areas at once: A Cb who’s younger than Brown, and being able to move Brown to FS.

i say we get somone like chase minnifield with the second first round pick. i think the #4 is going to be used for trade bait with somone wanting to move up personally. which if we would move back i would say no lower than 15, which with that kind of move, we should pick up quite the haul. get kuchely with the first, coples with the second rounder ( i think he slips a little), a lot of defense yes i know, but if blackmon is gone we might be able to totally beef up the defense and look for some receivers like bj cunningham later in the draft. ahhh hell, but who knows!

I think you should probably start taking stock in other mock draft sources.
The fact that they have a 27 year old QB without elite arm strength or experience in a pro style offense going 11th overall is a joke. Even though the QB depth is not as good as expected, that’s not going to happen.
That being said, not a fan at all of the picks. Taking Richardson there is WAY too high. He is probably the best RB prospect since AP, but that’s not saying much since only2 RBs were taken in the top 10 since and I’d argue that mdfadden was maybe a better prospect.
I love Zach Brown, but not till the 2nd round. As B19K says, no RBs who don’t rush the passer in the first.
mercilus is okay, but I like Ingram a bit better
There are also several players (Jeffery, Jones, etc..) I don’t get why were projected in the 2nd, but whatever.

everyone that reads mcok drafts and belives them are idiots, the season is not over, big name players will g0 under the radar and over rated players will be busts. read the neads of the team and stats of players coming out.
If you are going to call people idiots, I suggest you run a spell-check first.
