Tyrann Mathieu?

So I'm sitting here watching the battle of field goals, and i can't help but notice, The "Honey Badger", Tyrann Mathieu plays with the exact same style as Polamalu. I don't know about you but i have always thought that Polamalu was a great player for a terrible team. What do you guys think of this guy, maybe draft him next year with out #1, you know after we take our whole new offense with this draft.

Mathieu is surprisingly not going to be rated that high as a pro prospect compared to his fellow LSU DBs.

He definitely has that “it”, but he’s not very big and he’s kind of out of a position in the NFL. Do you put him at corner full-time, or let him play safety at maybe 5’10, maybe 185? He seems to do better when he can be in a deep zone or come up and hit people or blitz off the edge.

Seems like all the areas he really excels are either things he would do as a safety or things he does at whatever you call the college nickel player who has to be a hybrid safety/linebacker. That’s a position that doesn’t exist in the NFL because there is only one shotgun/spread-to-run team.

I was surprised at how Bama went after Mathieu.

It goes to what Rufio was saying, it seems like the best way to attack him is to go right at him. That doesn’t speak to well for Mathieu at the next level. 5’9 175lbs free safeties aren’t very common in the league.

Love the kid’s ball skills though.

Where do you think he’ll go? 2nd because of his size? no questions about his production. Any injury history?

Let me see your futile Mock Draft

No idea just yet. Want to see how he responds to what happened against Bama. I’m guessing a lot of teams will throw right at him next season.

He needs to add some weight, Earl Thomas and Mike Adams are about as tiny of a safeties as you can find, and they are 25-30 pounds heavier than Mathieu. Plus, how will he carry the weight? Lot of questions that still need to be answered.

He’ll get drafted earlier than another guy his size because he just flat out makes plays and stands out on a very good SEC defense.

From what I’ve heard he plays very recklessly because he has a defense that can make up for him being too aggressive, like going for a strip and missing a tackle.

He is very aggressive, but he makes a lot of plays. It’s about how much you are willing to bet for risk/reward. Polamalu and the steelers risk a lot and make a lot of big plays but sometimes get burned (see: Thomas jogging into the endzone to beat them in OT). A team like New England would not be able to put up with it.

He’s going pro this year, apparently: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-lsu-claiborne

Crap. Obviously I was thinking Claiborne, not Mathieu. Should have posted on B19K’s fanpost.
