The Big Show in Cleveland

Ok so with all the debate about the impact Holmgren had on this team, I decided to look back at the roster since he took over and what him and Tom Heckert have accomplished this will be done mostly by reference links since I am a horrendous writer but still wanted to put forth the information if possible.

Holmgren Year 1 (2010-11 Season):

Holmgren is hired in December of 2009; his first move is to hire GM Tom Heckert and to retain Eric Mangini and the current regime for one more year.

This class brings us- Joe Haden, TJ Ward, Montario Hardesty, & Shawn Lauvao who are still with the team and have all had their impact.

Holmgren Year 2 (2011-12 Season):

All these players are still with the team, whether good or bad. Despite this link labeling Buster Skrine as Darryl Skrine.

Holmgren and the Browns decided to fire head coach Eric Mangini, who posted a record of 10–22 in his two seasons as head coach. Eleven days later, Holmgren signed St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur to become the new head coach, and former Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears head coach Dick Jauron as their defensive coordinator.

Purely from my perspective it is utterly astounding to me the massive turnaround in the staff and members of the Cleveland Browns. I believe a lot of this falls onto Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert’s shoulders they managed to turn this team into one of the youngest most promising teams in the NFL, from one of the most irrelevant teams at that point. The coaching staff is leaps and bounds above what we had then, I personally would take Shurmur-Childress-Jauron over Mangini-Daboll-Ryan any day of the week, even if Shurmur’s playcalling can be headscratching at times. The supporting casts of assistants and positional coaches are just so much better and once again this all comes back to Holmgren & Heckert.

In my eyes the roster turnaround is astounding when you look at it, the roster in ’09 when Holmgren came in compared to now is just night and day. I would take most of our players now over any of those then(my exception being Vickers=>Marecic) without a second thought.

It is clear to me that the Browns are headed in the right direction and that is due in part to Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert.

What do you guys think? Did Holmgren make a positive impact or did he set us up with some of his many stumbles? Did the "Big Show" bring us up? Or set us up to fail?
