The Browns' defense tightened up in the second quarter. The offense couldn't capitalize on a few opportunities, as the game remained 7-0. The Browns were pinned back with several minutes left in the half, but picked up several first downs. They couldn't convert on third down, and with the rain, they opted to punt instead of kicking a field goal inside of two minutes. The Chargers marched down the field to set up a field goal for Nick Novak. Novak connected from 43 yards, making it a 7-3 Browns lead heading into the half.
