Hate is not a strong enough word to describe how much I despise that team. Abominate would serve my feelings toward that team.. I have thought hours on end about how I would celebrate after the Browns defeated our hated rivals to the east. Yet, only once since I have become a fan (fandom established 2007, I really started following sports then). I can still remember that night and point to it as one of the golden moments in my short lived fandom. If we were to beat this team next Sunday, I would celebrate like there was no tomorrow.
The thing that has made me hate this team the most is their fans. I live in a town around 40 minutes WEST of Cleveland, and its around 50/50 browns and steelers. That's correct, 40 minutes WEST of Cleveland, and a good portion of the population wears the piss and black. I have only had one intelligent conversation with a yinzer. Most have their "Six" Super Bowl rings shoved so far up their asses that it is all they can talk about. Yet, this one conversation happened this summer down on vacation in Florida. The guy saw I was wearing a Browns hat and he was one of the few intelligent yinzers I've ever met. He actually acknowledged that the Browns weren't going to be pushovers much longer and that Trent was a beast (So true). The conversation turned sour when he began talking about how he wanted them to have a NBA team. Still, he was actually from Pennsylvania, and is more then likely one of the only true fans of that team I will ever meet. If you have lived in Ohio over these past couple of years, you have probably seen it. Just like my town, Bandwagon black and golders are everywhere in Ohio. While I realize some of these people are actually from Pennsylvania, the vast majority of them aren't. 80% of them probably haven't even set foot in that "Steel" town. It makes me sick to my stomach, and feeds my abomination of THAT team. If our situations were flipped, and the Browns had won two recent Super Bowls, and they fluttered in futility, I know for a fact that a large portion of these Squeeler "Diehards" would be cheering of the Orange and Brown.
Which is why, I beg of you Browns fans, go to the game Sunday. Don't lets their stupid yellow towels be visible throughout our stadium. Don't sell your tickets online, let our team be welcomed by cheers of a sea of Brown and Orange. If at the end of the day, after 60 minutes of football, to have more points on the scoreboard then them, we're gonna need to play a good game. Despite my hatred, I am able to see that they are still a skilled team. Which means for our boys to beat THAT team, we will need to play one of our better games of the season. If we get a early lead, we can't just play not to lose, we need to shove multiple steaks in their heart, step on their throats, or whatever other metaphor you want to put their. If the Brown and Orange prevail next Sunday, I will be able to go to bed knowing that this black and gold nightmare that has lived over my Browns fandom will be over., even if it is just for a couple weeks.
