Morning Dawg Chow (2/13/12)
Cleveland Browns:
- "Recipe for NFL success: Find a QB early, and make your draft choices count" (Plain Dealer) - Bill Lubinger writes what a lot of us have been thinking for some time now. We need to find a QB first.
- "Around the NFL: Analyst feels Browns must look at RG-III" (Canton Rep) - The RG3 coverage isn't slowing down anytime soon. Steve Doerschuk talks about it with Solomon Wilcots.
- "2012 Free Agency Outlook – Wide Receivers" (Orange and Brown Report) - This look at the free agent wide receivers offers a break from all the draft talk.
- "Breaking down the last five Super Bowl champions" (Plain Dealer) - This is another interesting piece by Bill Lubinger that compares the last five Super Bowl winning teams to the past Browns regimes.
NFL:
- "Reggie Wayne hasn’t heard from Colts, open to playing for Patriots" (PFT) - This would be a really compelling turn of events for these AFC rivals.
- "New CBA gives teams the right to carry over cap space automatically" (PFT) - I won't pretend to be an expert on the NFL salary cap economics so I'll let you read it for yourself.
- "Starkey: Steelers' power struggle fascinates" (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) - I not-so-secretly enjoy reading these "trouble in paradise" articles that involve our division rivals.
- "NY's Bradshaw: 'I don't see' Cowboys winning Super Bowl with Romo" (Dallas News) - In the today's "smacktalk" news: New York Giants' running backs are still talking.
In for a name change? DBN regular pwndabear (hat tip) made a suggestion in the 2/10 post:
rename it Daily Dawg Chow. That way, it’s a daily feature and people won’t feel weird about commenting on it after 12pm every single day like I do.
I liked the suggestion, but decided I'll ask for more feedback before I make the change. What do you guys think?

what if you’re sick one day and you cant get the post done until like 1pm or so? you still gonna call it morning dawg chow?
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
you shoulda never given them a choice. the masses, when left with a chance to make change, will invariably stay with stagnancy.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
reverse psychology works.

I just realized, the majority of the morning crowd voted Morning Dawg Chow. By the time noon came around, Daily Dawg Chow took the lead. It makes sense.
Really, who cares. Name it what you name it.

On a side note, Pluto is really trying to stuff the idea that Colt will “improve” next season and “should” be better with a better supporting cast. All obvious points, but none address whether he is a guy we should be comfortable with ever winning us a Super a Bowl. I can’t tell if he is convinced we should not try and draft a QB, or if that is the vibe he is getting from the front office.
The only reason I bring this up is that, the rest of the media seems to assume the Browns will make a play for a QB, while the PD seems intent on surrounding Colt with weapons so that we can see improvement next year.
If we do go offense with first pick, this might be the tipping point with me and the PD. Meaning, I won’t believe anything they write.
I guess that’s the point I am trying to make here, if Pluto is way off on this, what exactly is he bringing to the table? And he is the only one that has me caring right now.
What Pluto brings, IMO, is thoughtful and intelligent discussion of pertinent Browns topics – which differentiates him from the others in itself. I’m still not sure how much I trust his “insider” leads, but he is an enjoyable read at least, who brings up interesting points and often defends them with a logical argument.
Last week Pluto said we’d be stupid if we drafted RG3 because he doesn’t take snaps under center.

That was incredibly dumb, I agree.
Once you start comparing a QB to Drew Brees, you've lost the argument.

I’d call it Dawg Bones (cuz you’re throwing us Dawgs some bones…i.e. feeding our hunger for Browns news), but that’s just me.

I like it.
Maybe “kibbles ‘n’ bits”? Any addendums or expanded editions could have the suffix – ‘n’ bits, ‘n’ bits
Actually Love the DAWG BONEZ title!!!

The OBR article on receivers was pretty good. Their prediction of bringing in DeSean Jackson and Danny Amendola, while unlikely due to Heckert’s low-spending approach to FA, does make a lot of sense. They both have strong connections with members of our organization and they both match what we’re looking for.
Totally of current Subject – What Division II schools have players that would be good fits for our Browns. Either as draftees or UDFA’s.
A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist....
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong!
My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch!
Once you start agreeing with TDSH, you know that you're wrong.
Regarding the FA WR article, I would love to see Stevie Johnson, Colston, or Laurent Robinson in a Browns uni next year. Not crazy about V-Jax (29 yrs old), Bowe, or D-Jax as I get scared by players with motivational issues.
It’s plain that we need to draft WR this year, but I think between Little, a solid high-round draft hit, and one of the above guys, we would have a very capable WR corps. Shoot holes in it gentleman (and ladies.)
You bastard, you used a “z” to screw me out of royalties.

Top talent is thoroughly scouted and pursued, not stumbled upon.
I support this philosophy, but, alas, my poor eye couldn’t scout the difference between Peyton Manning and Beau Bell.
