According to reporters in Indianapolis, Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert will not be attending the NFL Combine due to an illness. Heckert had already missed a media he was scheduled to have with the press in Berea on Wednesday due to the illness. The Akron Beacon Journal, via a team spokesman, says that Heckert's illness is not life-threatening (I guess it's necessary to clarify the extreme possibility when your GM is forced to stay away from one of the biggest events of the year).
Browns head coach Pat Shurmur stated Thursday that Heckert's absence would not hurt the team's draft preparation, and that Heckert would be participating in prospect interviews via Skype.
Hearing that your team's GM is absent might sound concerning, but overall, decisions are always made as a consensus and the Browns still have plenty of people in attendance. That includes:
- Head Coach Pat Shurmur
- Offensive Coordinator Brad Childress
- Team President Mike Holmgren
- Director of Player Personnel Jon Sandusky
- Director of College Scouting John Spytek
- ...and more.
We'll have more news later regarding who the Browns have reportedly been in contact with already.
