I actually was around back then. I remember Otto Graham, Mac Speedie, Dante Lavelli, Dub Jones, and later of course Jim Brown, Ray Renfro, Frank Ryan, and Gary Collins. I can remember Gary Collins running his favorite post pattern when he actually ran behind the goal posts (which were on the goal line back then) to scrub off the defensive back. Those were great days to be a Browns fan.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war
I grew up loving Kosar, Brennan, and Slaughter, Minnifield-Dixon, Golic, and Matthews, but after learning about the team’s beginnings, always felt a huge sense of pride in their accomplishments and innovations they brought to the game.
Probably the saddest part of the last 20 years has been the erasing from memory the Browns’ historical greatness.
I had some buddies over playing pool after the bar last night. They’re all typical douchey Charger fans. Their friend, that I’ve never met, started to make fun of the Browns stuff in my garage. Like most people do, he went on saying our NFL Championships don’t matter because they’re not Super Bowls. I immediately asked “If the Super Bowl changed it’s name tomorrow would that mean all the Super Bowl titles don’t count? Every team starts at zero titles?”. He had NO response to that! Check mate, BY.
Don’t EVER let people tell you our titles mean nothing.
