With the sixth pick in the 2012 Dawgs By Nature Community Mock Draft, the Washington Redskins select...
Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
This selection and write-up was made by Groza:
Most mocks predict the skins will trade up to pick No. 2 to grab RGIII, but this mock assumes the Redskins will sign either Manning or Flynn in FA because pick swaps are out in this mock.
The Redskins need help, period. Jabar Gaffney was team leader in receiving, with 68 grabs for 947 yards & 5 TDs. We all know what their QB situation is like. Blackmon was atop the big board for round 1 but with the Vikes taking Blackmon at pick 3 & a decent WR pool, the next best bet is to replace Jamal Brown at RT. Brown is going into his eighth season of various & rather frequent injuries. Brown's contract has paid up all his guaranteed money & a frustrated coach Shanahan was quoted saying his future depends on him coming back at 100% this offseason, which may last all of a few games at best on Brown's 27.5 million contract.
Washington will be looking for a new right tackle to solidify it’s offense with the addition of a new QB, Reiff looks to be a future/immediate stud. Reiff started every game while at Iowa & was never injured, I seriously wish the Browns could get him. The skins will land a WR via FA to bookend Gaffney, with a new QB & vet FA WR, Reiff is a no-brainer with Blackmon gone at pick 3 & the need to protect their new QB. At pick 39 in round 2 the skins still get a very good player & already have the second best tackle in the draft. The skins need help at WR & DL but should focus on their below average offense with first two picks, the skins D was ranked 13th overall in 2011, not great but not too shabby either. I almost took Claiborne with pick 6, as Claiborne is the only BPA left in front of Reiff in this mock, still RT is a bigger need on this Redskins team with Mr. Injury & no depth at RT.
If the Redskins are able to land a quarterback through free agency, then bolstering their offensive line sounds like a good idea. I'm not sure how good of a run blocker Reiff is, but perhaps he will help the Redskins be a more consistent running team on the ground as Mike Shanahan goes back to his plug-and-play formula at the position.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are on the clock next (email will be sent to Chalmdeezy).
