With the seventh pick in the 2012 Dawgs By Nature Community Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select...
Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
This selection and write-up was made by Chalmdeezy:
The Jacksonville Jaguars have 2 huge needs they need to fill, WR and DE. I think the Jags have learned there lesson in the past by reaching for WR's in the draft (IE: Matt Jones). With Claiborne on the board, I think they give him great consideration, but I think they stick with Quinton Coples. Coples had a fast 40 yard dash time of 4.72, but he was unimpressive in the position drills. This may be a question for concern, but with the way Coples killed it in the Senior Bowl, I think the Jags would just chalk it up as an "Off Day" and pick him none-the-less.
With Coples being paired up with Mincey at DE, I think that they will cause as much havoc, if not more, than any other DE's in the NFL. I think that Coples with have an immediate impact and will give the Jags a solid D-line for years to come.
I am a non-believer in Blaine Gabbert, but he's another quarterback who will obviously have a couple of years to prove himself. He already has a big-time weapon in Maurice Jones-Drew, so I don't think it's critical that the Jaguars pick a wide receiver this high; they can try to find a nice prospect at that position in a later round. Coples can make an impact as a pass rusher and might help give Jacksonville's defense more of an identity.
The Miami Dolphins are on the clock next (email will be sent to gentryholdem).
