A Maybe Not-So-Far-Fetched Scenario

Assumptions for the following draft:

1. The first 3 picks are Luck, Griffin, Kalil.

2. We like several players at 4 but are willing to listen to trade offers.

Let's say, for argument's sake, that we get a call from the St. Louis Rams, and they offer us their #6 and #33 picks for our #4. Let's further assume that the Browns do the deal, and the Rams take Blackmon. The Browns would now have the #6, #22, #33, and #37.

Tampa Bay at #5 would have a difficult decision to make between Trent Richardson and Morris Claiborne. (Who do you think Tampa Bay would take here and why?)

Option 1: Let's assume that Tampa Bay takes Richardson, which leaves the Browns with the possibility of drafting Claiborne at #6. Let's assume the Browns then get a call from Dallas, who offers its #14, #45, and #113 (4th round) for the rights to draft Claiborne. If consummated, the trade would net the Browns the #14, #22, #33, #37, and #45 picks in the first two rounds, all potential starters. What would your draft be if the Browns had these picks and used them on players, not trades? Would you prefer Option 1 over purely taking players at #4, #22, and #37?

Option 2: Let's assume Tampa takes Claiborne, which leaves the Browns with the possibility of drafting Richardson or anyone other than Luck, Griffin, Kalil, Blackmon, or Claiborne at #6. Our team now has the #6, #22, #33, and #37 picks. Under Option 2, and if you could only take players, not make trades, who would you pick? Would you prefer Option 2, Option 1, or our original board of picks (#4, #22, #37)?

Personally, I'd like Option 1. I'd take the following:

#14: Cordy Glenn (OG)

#22: Stephen Hill/Kendall Wright/Michael Floyd (WR)

#33: Doug Martin (RB)

#37: Bobby Massie (OT)

#45: Lavonte David (OLB)

My Option 2:

#6: Melvin Ingram (DE/DT)

#22: WR, see above

#33: Doug Martin (RB)

#37: Bobby Massie (OT)
