As I was on vacation this week I picked up the book False Start by Terry Pluto, about how the new Browns were set up to fail and it got me thinking about that time I realized this is my team and I will love them through and through. I thought it would be interesting to tell my story, then if you all are willing to share your memories that would be awesome, as I'm new and am trying to get to know people and am interested to talk with other fans as I can count the number of fans I know on one hand and I like even fewer of them.
For those that don't know me I have been around for a few months the draft prompted me to sign up and start commenting up to that point I had just been a reader and followed debates going on. You all are great Browns fans and much more tolerable than any of the trolls on other "fan" sites. But I digress, I am a Browns Fan living in Wheeling, WV surrounded on all sides by fickle Steelers Fans including Ohioans who have jumped on their bandwagon.
My first A-Ha! Moment as a Cleveland Browns fan was in 2002, I was attending my very first game with my father (a huge fan but we have had a falling out since then and don't speak) it was the December game against Atlanta where William Green ran around through and over the Atlanta defense. This was the moment I fell in love with the Browns as I had grown up without the Browns for a few Years as I was born in '92 and had only been told about the Old Browns by my Grandfather who had actually gone to School with Lou Groza(At Martins Ferry)! This game was when I realized that they were my team and no matter what they would be through thick and thin. Especially as we were driving home from the game (a 3.5 hour drive) we had no idea we were going to the playoffs and only found out after we had gone home and a family friend left us an answering machine message screaming. "We are in!" That loss in Pissburgh the next week crushed me but I wore my Browns gear to school the day after and endured my taunts and held my head high! This was my team, I LOVED THEM!
I hope you all will share if you feel like it and will have mercy on my poor grammar (as I am horrendous at it) Thanks for sharing if anyone does!
