Hey everyone. I'm excited not just for real football to begin, but also for fantasy football. It (either one!) will be a welcome, if not problematic, diversion from what is shaping up to be a hellishly busy semester.

This year, I'm returning to the Rebel Alliance. It was a lot of fun last season, and I expect the same this year. I've certainly learned a thing or two since then! I suppose the standard Yahoo league is a gateway drug diversion...and now I'm fixing to move onto something a little harder.

More precisely, I'd be interested in trying my hand at an IDP league, but I have no idea where to begin. Is anyone else here similarly interested? Do you want to join an IDP league? I propose we start one here. Again, I know next-to-nothing about this, so I think this league would be a great place for beginners, n00bs, and others who are, let's say, IDP-curious. I mulled over having a small offensive roster, but decided on defense and special teams only. Here's my thought...

10 teams with a "4-3" defense:

• 2 DLs
  
• 2 DEs
  
• 3 LBs
• 2 Safeties
• 2 CBs
• 1 K, with slight punishment for missing longer field goals
  
• 1 W/R/T, with points given ONLY for return yards and return TDs (i.e., the flex is only meant to be a Special Teamer)
• 10 Bench spaces (?)
• Mostly standard Yahoo scoring with a few tweaks.
• Brandon Weeden will not be Our Big Ben Roethlisberger
• Would it make sense to add in a DEF/ST roster spot?
• 8-team playoff. (Pretty much) everyone has a shot at glory. Except for the two who don't make it to the playoffs. You two get to compete in the consolation round for the Jim Mora Certificate of Good Effort.

The reason I'm posting this is to see if (a) this makes any sense whatsoever, (b) what, if anything, should be tweaked to make this fun/playable and (c) anyone else here is interested in joining such a league. If you'd like to commit to joining this proposed league, leave a comment here and I'll see if we can fill up the league. I have about 5 or 6 slots (and maybe one or two more) available for DBNers. Right now, I have the live draft set for Monday, 3 September at 5:15pm CDT.
