I put together an 8-6 record last week, improving my season mark to 49-28 (63%). My Week 6 NFL picks are below. Feel free to share your general thoughts on this week's games in the comments section.
Week 6 Games | Explanation | Pick | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
vs. |
Do We Have To? This is the first prime time game of the season where I honestly don't even feel like watching it -- that's how ugly the Giants have been this year. There is something depressing about watching terrible football, and that's what the Giants epitomize this year. Bears 27, Giants 17 |
|||
vs. |
Getting It Done the Ugly Way: The Vikings have Josh Freeman, Matt Cassel, and Christian Ponder on their team. They are desperately hoping that one of those guys emerge to salvage their season. They won't get a stud performance out of any of them, but Adrian Peterson will single-handedly lead them to a victory this week, 2012-style. Vikings 20, Panthers 17 |
|||
vs. |
Needing a Favor from Thad: The Bengals have the luxury of facing Thaddeus Lewis this week, although honestly, Lewis is a competent quarterback; if the rest of the units make some plays, this could be an upset special. Coming off of a win over the Patriots, though, I can't go against Cincinnati's defense. Bengals 23, Bills 14 |
|||
vs. |
Trying to Figure Out the Ravens: The Ravens officially have me confused. I went from thinking they were bad, then to mediocre, and now it's looking like they could be creeping back up into contention. Hopefully the Packers put a halt to that this week and force Joe Flacco into some more costly mistakes. Packers 28, Ravens 21 |
|||
vs. |
Running Into a New Powerhouse: The Raiders are an intriguing team for one reason only: Terrelle Pryor. He has single-handedly made the team somewhat enjoyable to watch. Sadly, Oakland will have a tough time making a dent in the AFC West this year with how the Chiefs and Broncos are playing. Chiefs 27, Raiders 20 |
|||
vs. |
Upset of the Week: I almost forgot for a second that the Buccaneers are winless. I still really like their secondary, and I think Nick Foles will have a tough time against them this week. That, coupled with the Eagles' defensive woes and Tampa Bay's time to prepare during the bye, will result in a good old upset special. Buccaneers 24, Eagles 14 |
|||
vs. |
Drop Them to 0-5, Please: The Jets played their most impressive game last week in years; it felt like Rex Ryan's team had its mojo back. In a division where the Patriots have ruled for far too long, that's not a bad thing. If Geno Smith can help continue the Steelers' dismal start to the season, he'll endear himself to Browns fans a little too. Jets 20, Steelers 17 |
|||
vs. |
The AFC Equivalent of the Falcons: Just like the Falcons in the NFC,the Texans have fallen hard in the AFC in a short period of time. Matt Schaub's play has come under heavy scrutiny, to the point where he's bordering on Jake Delhomme bad (and by that, I mean the stretch of his career where he became a head case and a turnover machine). The bigger issue, though? The defense is pretty bad too. Still, I'll give them a win this week over a team with a gloomy quarterback situation of their own. Texans 24, Rams 17 |
|||
vs. |
Do They Cover the Spread? We've seen a couple of major upsets before, but I don't think that'll happen here. The bigger question is whether the Broncos will cover the spread or not. I have them just missing. Broncos 42, Jaguars 15 |
|||
vs. |
Home Sweet Home: The Seahawks do not lose at home under Pete Carroll. There's really no further analysis needed, is there? Seahawks 31, Titans 16 |
|||
vs. |
NFC West Showdown: The Cardinals are a pretty surprising 3-2 right now, and it's hard to imagine a scenario where they could actually be tied for first place in the NFC West this week if things go their way. The 49ers appear to be clicking in all aspects of the game (except for quarterback), so it's hard to see Carson Palmer upsetting them on the road. 49ers 28, Cardinals 17 |
|||
vs. |
Game of the Week: I thought this would be the game where Tom Brady would be trying to tie Drew Brees' record of consecutive games with a touchdown pass, but that streak just so happened to end one week early against the Bengals. The Saints have been awesome this year, but if Rob Gronkowski plays, I expect Brady to bounce back in a major way. UPDATE: With Gronk out, my pick has changed to the Saints. Saints 27, Patriots 21 |
|||
vs. |
The Best of the NFC West: The Redskins are still very much in the race to win their division; they could be leading it with a victory over the Cowboys. The Cowboys have played like the best team in their division by far, but their record doesn't indicate that. I personally would prefer to see the Redskins win here, but until Robert Griffin III and that defense show some marked improvement, it's wise to pick against them. Cowboys 34, Redskins 24 |
|||
vs. |
Rivalry Renewed...Somewhat: The Colts-Chargers rivalry still seems prominent to me, but I'm used to Peyton Manning being involved in the game. Trent Richardson continues to look mediocre with his new team, but the Colts are showing why they are a contender: the defense is underrated, and Andrew Luck can make the clutch throws. Colts 24, Chargers 21 |
|||
vs. |
Great Lakes Classic: The Browns won the Great Lakes Classic in Cleveland during the preseason, and now it's time for these two teams to square off in the regular season. My full game preview and prediction will be posted this Saturday, so stay tuned! |

Bye Week |
Pokorny's Week 4 NFL Picks Record: 8-6
Pokorny's Record w/ Browns Games: 3-2
Pokorny's 2013 NFL Picks Record: 49-28
Survivor Pick: I am 3-2, and I'm actually on a two-game losing streak, which is pretty terrible for survivor purposes. I just need a win this week, so I'll take the Broncos over the Jaguars.
