Cleveland Browns discussed trading WR Josh Gordon to the San Francisco 49ers

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Here we go again.

Just a few days after the Cleveland Browns clinched what would become a three-way tie for first place in the AFC North following Week 5, the trade rumors have reared their ugly head once again.

Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported that the Browns have had talks with the San Francisco 49ers about a trade for WR Josh Gordon. Schefter broke the news during NFL Insiders, then tweeted about it just minutes later:

Not long after Schefter's report, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com expanded on the situation, adding that the Browns aren't shopping their stars, but have answered the phone and listened to offers, including those from the 49ers. Rapoport also reported that the Browns would like a second-round pick in return for Gordon.

Many are left wondering why the asking price from the Browns is so low.

It's been speculated for weeks that the market value for Gordon simply isn't there considering he has only one strike left prior to a year-long suspension. But what has come to light since is the impact he brings to the team. The Browns are 3-0 since his return and Gordon has averaged over 100 yards receiving in those games, adding two touchdowns on top of that.

If it's any consolation, the good news for Browns fans that are hoping to keep Gordon in Cleveland: Schefter concluded that a deal with the 49ers is unlikely.
