Browns Sign WR Josh Cooper, Place WR Armanti Edwards on IR

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns placed wide receiver Armanti Edwards on injured reserve with an ankle injury on Wednesday. Edwards was signed three weeks ago after wide receiver Travis Benjamin landed on injured reserve with a torn ACL. Edwards injured his ankle against the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday. In his limited time with the team, Edwards was splitting time as a punt returner for Cleveland with wide receiver Davone Bess, and he also took one snap from the Wildcard last week before getting hurt.

To replace Edwards, the Browns promoted wide receiver Josh Cooper from the practice squad. Everyone here should be familiar with Cooper, as this is his second year with the team. Cooper might actually get some snaps on Sunday; unlike players like Edwards or wide receiver Brian Tyms, Cooper was with the team all of camp and has been on the practice squad all season. He knows the offense. Cooper has also had some reps at punt returner in the past, so he could be used in that capacity as well.

The Browns signed wide receiver Reggie Dunn to the practice squad to take Cooper's spot. Dunn is an undrafted free agent from Utah who spent camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Green Bay Packers signed him to their practice squad in September, and he has bounced off-and-on their practice squad several times since then. Dunn is a smaller receiver (5-10, 178 lbs) who set records in college as a kick returner.
