With the 19th pick in the 2013 Dawgs By Nature NFL Community Mock Draft, the New York Giants select...
Alex Okafor, DE, Texas
This selection and write-up was made by Red-Right-88:
Over the years the NY Giants have been known for their defense first, and their offense second. The Giants have been one of the best teams at "re-tooling" year to year. They find value picks or undrafted free agents like Victor Cruz.
The last few years, their strength on defense has come from the defensive line. However, they just lost Osi Umenyiora, and passed on Dwight Freeney. Justin Tuck may be in his last season with the G-Men and possibly Subway. It makes sense that the Giants take Alex Okafor with the 18th pick. At 6'4'' 264 lbs, he has the quickness for either end and does well against the run. He dominated Texas' bowl game vs. Oregon State with 4 1/2 sacks.
So the Giants re-tool that D-Line in 2013 with Big Oak!
Do we have our first big reach of the first round? He generally seems to be listed as a mid-to-late second rounder, and in his most recent mock draft, Todd McShay didn't even have him going in the first two rounds. The Giants might be the type of team who has the flexibility to go ahead and pick a player who really fits well with their system, though.
The Chicago Beras are up next, led by PaduaDSP.
